Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 728: Chapter 728 Teach Him a Lesson

After a long while, Zheng Xiao had been beaten until her face was bruised and swollen, leaving her barely able to stand. Uncle Wang was at her side, supporting her and preventing her from falling.

”Ahem, Young Friend Ye, what happened was indeed my daughter’s fault, and I have now disciplined her. By the way, I have quite a few newly arrived treasures at home. How about I offer them to you as compensation?”

Zheng Ming did not know if Ye Qingchen was satisfied with this outcome, but with Xue Feng standing right there, he had to settle the matter properly, even at great personal loss.

Ye Qingchen knew that under the current circumstances, there could not be a better outcome.

”Since Family Head Zheng has acknowledged his mistake, I will of course accept.”

These words from Ye Qingchen made Zheng Ming breathe a sigh of relief. ”Hahaha, Young Friend Ye is so magnanimous! You’re sure to achieve great things in the future! The items are at our home. Would you and Lord Xue care to accompany me back to retrieve them?”

Ye Qingchen nodded.

The group then made an imposing procession back to the Zheng Family residence.

Zheng Xiao, supported by Uncle Wang, walked at the very back of the group. Her eyes were filled with hatred as she stared at Ye Qingchen’s back.

At the Zheng Family residence, Zheng Xiao’s mother saw her daughter’s bruised and swollen face and leaped from her seat in shock. ”Oh my goodness! Daughter! How did you end up looking like this?”

Her mother helped her daughter sit down. ”Quickly! Uncle Wang, hurry and get some medicine!”

Upon seeing her mother, Zheng Xiao finally burst into tears. ”Mother! Father was the one who inflicted these injuries on me!”

”What?!” At these words, her mother flew into a rage. ”He dared to beat you like this? He’s your own father! How could he be so ruthless!”

Her mother was about to go and confront Zheng Ming, but Zheng Xiao hastily held her back. ”Mother, you can’t go now! That lord from the Xue Family is discussing something with Father. You must not disturb them!”

Her mother scoffed at her words. ”Silly child! He beat you into this state. Even if the Emperor of Heaven himself were here, I would still go have a word with him!”

Clutching her wounds, Zheng Xiao quickly said, ”Mother! This wasn’t actually Father’s fault! If anyone is to blame, it’s Ye Qingchen!”

Her mother, intrigued, sat back down. ”Daughter, what do you mean by that?”

”That Ye Qingchen insisted on badmouthing me in front of the lord from the Xue Family! Father had no other choice!”

Zheng Xiao knew her father’s intentions, of course; she was not a fool. After all, this matter concerned the very safety of their Zheng Family.

”The Ye Qingchen you’re talking about, does he actually know people from the Xue Family?” her mother quickly grasped the key point.

”Mother, he’s more than just an acquaintance,” Zheng Xiao nodded seriously. ”From the looks of it, he’s very close with the Xue Family!”

Hearing this, her mother grew thoughtful. ”Then besides beating you, did your father also promise him many other things?”

”Mother, how did you know?” Zheng Xiao asked curiously.

Her mother snorted coldly. ”I’ve been with your father for so many years. Do you think I don’t know what he’s planning?”

Zheng Xiao nodded. ”Remember that batch of treasures our family recently acquired? Father said he’s going to select some of them to give to him as compensation!”

Her mother frowned. ”Those are all priceless treasures! Countless people outside would kill to get their hands on them, and now he’s just giving them away!”

Her mother was deeply dissatisfied. Seeing her daughter’s condition and thinking about the treasures they were about to lose, her heart ached with resentment.

”Wait, where is that Ye Qingchen right now?” Her mother suddenly had an idea, her eyes widening as she stared at Zheng Xiao.

”Mother, he’s at our house right now! Father invited him and that lord from the Xue Family over!” Zheng Xiao said.

A meaningful smile spread across her mother’s face. ”Daughter, I’ve thought of a good way for you to get even!”

Zheng Xiao leaned in curiously. ”Mother, what is it?”

”You have to understand, countless outsiders are desperate to get our family’s treasures, and many powerful experts have been visiting our Zheng Family recently. This is a perfect opportunity!” her mother said with a laugh.

Zheng Xiao’s eyes lit up in understanding. ”Mother, I see what you mean! Once Ye Qingchen takes our family’s treasures, we’ll have a perfect reason to have someone teach him a lesson! We can even wash our hands of the matter and claim that outsiders who coveted the treasures were the ones who attacked him. That way, even if the Xue Family wants to investigate, they won’t be able to pin anything on us!”

Zheng Xiao suddenly felt that her mother was incredibly smart.

”Exactly! My beloved daughter, your mother secretly knows quite a few powerful experts. Don’t you worry. I will handle this matter for you perfectly!”

Her mother’s confident assertion was incredibly reassuring to Zheng Xiao.

”Mother, it’s so great to have you!”

...

Elsewhere, Zheng Ming led Xue Feng and Ye Qingchen to the council hall.

As soon as Zheng Ming entered, he began barking orders at the servants inside. ”What are you all standing around for? Hurry up and brew tea for my guests!”

After giving the order, he quickly turned back to his guests with an obsequious smile. ”Lord Xue, Young Friend Ye, please, have a seat! I’ve already instructed the servants to prepare dinner. It will be ready shortly!”

”There’s no need for such trouble, Family Head Zheng,” Xue Feng said, waving his hand. ”We only need to rest here for one night.”

Zheng Ming quickly replied, ”Oh, Lord Xue, even if it’s just for a brief rest, it must be a good one! We can’t have any mishaps when it’s time to repair the barrier!”

”And Young Friend Ye, rest assured,” Zheng Ming gestured for the two to sit. ”Regarding the compensation I mentioned, I’ve already sent a servant to retrieve it. It will just be a moment!”

Ye Qingchen simply nodded and sat down without a word. I’d like to see what this Zheng Ming can possibly offer to fool me.

After speaking, Zheng Ming turned his attention to Xue Feng. ”By the way, Lord Xue, I never expected your power to be so immense! To think you drove back the Demon Beast King single-handedly! Truly admirable!”

Zheng Ming began to lay on the flattery once more.

Xue Feng, however, shook his head with a serious expression. ”I didn’t drive him back. That creature is so powerful that it would take ten of me attacking at once to have any hope of repelling him.”

Zheng Ming was not embarrassed in the slightest; instead, his face filled with curiosity. ”Lord Xue, you’re being far too modest! We all saw what happened quite clearly from a distance. Even if you didn’t drive that beast back, he certainly retreated because of you! You have no idea how great a loss your intervention prevented!”
