I Return From Hell

Chapter 176: Chapter 169: Blood-Stained Campus

”Hm?”

Xia Yu spun around, her gaze fixed on the area behind and to her left.

A sharp north wind swept past, rustling the greenbelt, but there was nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing at all.

But she was absolutely certain she had just felt a hint of danger from that direction. While it posed no real threat to her, that same hint of danger... would be fatal for an ordinary person.

Her entire body tensed in an instant, and two possibilities immediately came to mind:

First, a violent criminal!

A ruthless character who had already drawn blood and was armed with a knife. With the outbreak of the Mist Event, the government’s control over society had weakened, leading to a rise in crime rates. It wouldn’t be surprising for a fugitive to show up on campus, though the probability was relatively low.

Second, the Red-eyed Lizard!

It had just escaped from Xie Shaokun and his group. Given its considerable intelligence, it made sense for it to come here.

The reason for the vast difference in combat power between these two possibilities was that this kind of perception wasn’t precise to begin with. Furthermore, the other party hadn’t directed any killing intent at Xia Yu, which further clouded her judgment.

’It’s most likely the Red-eyed Lizard that slipped in.’

Xia Yu’s gaze turned cold.

To heal its injuries, the Red-eyed Lizard had to eat, and there was no shortage of people at the school. And if it were cornered again by Ai Cao’s group, it could pull the same trick and use a hostage to escape.

So, it had come to the school.

After a moment of contemplation, a murderous glint appeared in Xia Yu’s eyes. She recalled the layout of the campus, trying to pinpoint the Red-eyed Lizard’s location.

She decided to make her move.

The reason was simple: a First-grade Crystal Core!

Originally, she had no intention of coveting this Crystal Core. After all, with the authorities involved, she had no need to risk exposing her identity to fight them for it.

If she wanted one, she could just ask Zhao Guohui for it.

After all, she and the government were in a honeymoon period right now. What wouldn’t they give her if she asked?

But now...

This Red-eyed Lizard had personally delivered its Crystal Core right to her. How could she possibly refuse to take it?

’But where would it go?’

The school was so large, and it was the middle of the night. Finding a Red-eyed Mutant Beast would be extremely difficult.

’What part of the school is secluded enough, yet would allow it to easily capture prey?’

’The mountain?’

’The water?’

’Or perhaps the woods?’

Xia Yu pondered.

...

...

North of the Second Stadium, there was a lake—Mingli Lake.

Two graceful figures walked along the lake’s edge.

”Class President, for this year’s poverty subsidy, could you give the highest-tier grant to me?”

A shorter girl glanced around to make sure no one was there before quickly lowering her voice to ask.

”Is this what you wanted to see me about?”

”As Class President, I have to be fair and impartial! Otherwise, how could I live up to the trust the entire class has placed in me?”

The Class President frowned, questioning her unhappily.

”Class President, please hear me out first.”

The shorter girl had an earnest look on her face as she spoke rapidly, ”My dad broke his leg over the New Year, which made our family’s situation even worse. I really need that money.”

”If your situation is as you say, I will fight for you.”

The Class President nodded and said, ”You didn’t need to pull me aside to talk about this.”

”Yes! Yes! Yes!”

The shorter girl nodded repeatedly. ”Everyone knows you’re a person of high moral character, Class President, but... when you’re investigating my situation, could you maybe not be so... thorough?”

The Class President: ”???”

She was just about to scold her loudly when something was suddenly pressed into her hand. Just from the feel of it, she knew it was ’money.’ A second touch told her it was two red bills.

”What are you doing?”

She immediately pushed the money back, saying, ”You’re only a junior and you’re already pulling these kinds of tricks?”

”Class President.”

The shorter girl quickly added, ”For this year’s class president election, everyone in my dorm will definitely support you, not Yin Xiaoqian.”

The Class President fell silent for a moment.

”This year, I will personally investigate the family situations of the students applying for the subsidy.”

She calmly slipped the ’money’ into her pocket and said, ”I need to get to know the students in need in our class better, see what difficulties you’re facing. As Class President, if I can help, I will.”

”Thank you for your hard work, Class President. Having you as our class president is truly a blessing for all of us.”

The shorter girl added.

The two of them exchanged a knowing smile.

”Class President, I’ll be going now.”

The shorter girl took her leave. ”My dorm is having a dinner together. It’s the perfect chance for me to talk to them about the class president election.”

”Mm.”

”Go on.”

The Class President nodded.

Watching the other girl’s retreating back, she let out a cold snort, her face full of disdain. ”So that’s the kind of person you are. You always act so meek and honest. It’s true you can’t judge a book by its cover.”

”Oof!”
