I Return From Hell

Chapter 157: Chapter 150: The Fifth Metamorphosis

The rich Yin Qi from the hanged ghost not only allowed Little Flower to complete its fourth transformation, but also kicked off its fifth, bringing its completion to 7%.

Now, this mischievous little boy ghost had far less Yin Qi, so...

8%!

9%!

...

The completion progress stopped once it hit 19%.

’This fifth transformation is much harder than the fourth, just as I thought.’

’At this rate, even if we kill every ghost in this Mist Event, it probably won’t be enough to complete the fifth transformation.’

Based on the pattern, the last few percentage points would inevitably require a massive amount of Yin Qi.

And for a long time to come, any Mist Events that broke out within Zhao Guohui’s jurisdiction wouldn’t feature the Ghost Clan, or even anything related to Yin Qi.

So...

The progress of this fifth transformation would be extremely slow.

’We’ll just have to take it slow.’

Xia Yu glanced at the Resentful Corpse controlled by Little Flower, recalling the two pieces of information it had sent her:

First, the resentful energy within the hotel had increased significantly and was all absorbed by the Resentful Corpse, restoring its combat power to thirty-five percent of its Peak.

Second, even if the Resentful Corpse recovered its full Peak strength, it would not escape Little Flower’s control.

This was the confidence Little Flower had gained after completing its fourth transformation.

Of course, Xia Yu didn’t fully trust Little Flower’s judgment. To be on the safe side, she might not allow Little Flower to go to any bustling downtown areas for a while, or even let it participate in any Mist Events.

After all, both bustling areas and Mist Events generated a great deal of resentful energy.

”Let’s go.”

”We’re going to find those three ghosts on the third floor.”

Xia Yu turned and left without a second glance at the constantly coughing, trembling Red Sister.

Little Flower followed close behind.

Red Sister hesitated for a moment. She glanced back at the empty room, and the memory of the terrifying scene a moment ago made her grit her teeth. Forcing her trembling body to move, she braced herself against the wall and followed them!

’Whether Xia Yu and Little Flower are human or ghost, they saved me. They probably won’t harm me.’

’Following them is my only chance of survival.’

...

...

Dozens of people had originally been staying in the hotel.

After the Mist Event began, a considerable number of them turned into Mutants. Others were bitten to death by Mutants, only to become Mutants themselves. On top of that, some were killed by ghosts.

As a result, not many living people were left.

In the initial moments of the Mist Event, Xie Chengyong heard strange noises from downstairs. He immediately unlocked the iron gate leading to the third floor and went to investigate.

If someone were to die here, he, as the owner, would bear a great deal of responsibility.

Then, he saw a group of monsters tearing living people apart.

In the light of a flickering, shaking flashlight, the scene in the hallway was revealed to be extremely bloody and chaotic.

”This...”

A violent shudder ran through Xie Chengyong’s portly frame.

The scene before him was terrifying.

It also made him realize that he was in trouble. Big trouble.

”ROAR.”

Just then, a Mutant spotted him and charged.

”AH!”

Terrified, Xie Chengyong turned tail and ran, scrambling up toward the fourth floor.

As it turned out, he saw someone had run ahead of him, ducked onto the fourth floor, and then... the iron gate...

Was shut!

”No!”

”Who?! Who was that?!”

”Damn you! I’ll haunt you even if I become a ghost!”

”Holy shit! Stay back! You monster, stay back!”

”Hurry, open the door! I’ll give you a million, is that enough? Five million?! Open the door!”

Xie Chengyong’s miserable screams echoed from beyond the gate.

One would have thought he was as good as dead.

But who would have thought.

Faced with death, he tapped into some shocking hidden potential. He was on the stairs, giving him the advantage of high ground. Add to that the fact that Xie Chengyong weighed over two hundred pounds, and so...

He threw himself forward.

He slammed the Mutant that was biting his stomach down onto the ground.

And as luck would have it, the back of the Mutant’s head smashed right into the edge of a stair, followed by the crisp sound of a bone cracking.

Instantly, the Mutant’s combat strength plummeted.

”Fuck you!”

”I’ll fucking kill you, you monster!”

”BAM! BAM! BAM!”

Xie Chengyong swung his ham-sized fists, hammering them again and again into the Mutant’s head.

In his terror and panic, he ignored the pain and just kept smashing with all his might.

A Mutant’s skull was hard; it wouldn’t normally be fazed by his fists. Punching it like this would more likely shatter his own knuckles. But the back of the Mutant’s head was still pressed against the stair’s edge, right where the bone had already cracked, so...

...every one of Xie Chengyong’s blows widened the wound on the back of its head, dealing it further, grievous damage.

He didn’t know how long it had been.

Only when he felt like his own knuckles were about to shatter and the monster beneath him finally stopped moving did he stop. He turned, shot a long, hard look at the iron gate to the fourth floor, then clutched the huge gash on his stomach and ran downstairs without a second’s hesitation.

’Staying here is certain death.’

’I have to get out of here.’

But as soon as he reached the third-floor landing, he saw another monster charging up the stairs from below. Seeing a living person, it grew even more excited.

”!!!”

Xie Chengyong felt like his whole body was about to fall apart; he couldn’t possibly fight another monster. And even if he won, other monsters would just charge him again.

As a shrewd businessman, he was an expert at seeking advantage and avoiding danger.

He immediately spun around and dashed into a room on the third floor whose door hadn’t been shut.

”SLAM.”

The moment the door shut.

It was as if the chaos and death had been sealed away.

This made Xie Chengyong let out a huge sigh of relief. ’No monsters followed me,’ he thought. ’Looks like... my luck isn’t all bad.’

HUFF...

He knew he wasn’t safe. Panting heavily, he forced himself further into the room, looking for something to barricade the door and a way to bandage his wound.

Otherwise, at this rate, he would bleed to death!

He switched on his flashlight.

First, he grit his teeth against the pain and dragged a desk over to barricade the door. Then, he grabbed some clothes a guest had carelessly thrown on a chair and pressed them against his wound. Only then did he lean against the bed to rest.

Some ten minutes later.

’No signal.’

’No power.’

’There’s mist outside the door.’

’What the hell is going on?’

Xie Chengyong’s face was deathly pale, but he now understood his situation: he was completely trapped.

This was not good news.

If his wound was left like this any longer...

’Hm?’

’Why is the wound so itchy?’

He looked down and was dumbfounded.

The wound was mostly healed!

’What’s going on?’

Xie Chengyong breathed a sigh of relief. He couldn’t figure out why, but it was a good thing regardless.

Moreover, it was completely silent outside the door.

There was no sound of monsters moving about.

This was even better news!

He waited a few more minutes.

The wound healed further and stopped bleeding. He tossed aside the bloody clothes and got up, preparing to listen for any sounds outside the door.

”CREAK.”

Suddenly, the door to the adjacent bathroom swung open.

”AH!”
