I Return From Hell

Chapter 169: Chapter 162: The Escaped Monster

Shunyang City.

This latest batch of Mist Events consisted of three separate outbreaks.

Normally, after so many Mist Events, the official preventative measures were relatively mature. There shouldn’t have been any cases of Mutants or Mutated Beasts escaping the containment circles.

However, an accident still occurred.

This particular Mist Event occurred near Shunyang City’s Forest Park. Half of the affected area covered a large river. When the Mist Event ended, the battle began.

The Mutants and Mutated Beasts were slaughtered.

A Red-eyed Mutant Beast, transformed from a lizard, sensed the danger. It quietly hid underground, lying in wait for an opportunity to escape.

There weren’t many Mutants or Mutated Beasts on the riverbank, and they were quickly slaughtered.

However, many of the fish in the water had transformed into Mutated Beasts, and some had even become Red-eyed Mutant Beasts, drawing the attention of the vast majority of warriors.

This gave the Red-eyed Lizard the chance to break through the encirclement.

”It was hit by gunfire and is injured.”

”It’s about a meter long, skinny, and mostly yellow with occasional black stripes. It’s extremely fast.”

Listening to his subordinate’s report, Gao Zhengting, who had just rushed over from another Mist Event, frowned deeply, his expression dark.

Ever since the government began taking the Mist Events seriously, the number of incidents across the country where Mutants or Mutated Beasts escaped containment had plummeted.

And since the ’Apocalypse Theory’ had been given weight, not a single similar incident had occurred!

Now, one had happened in his jurisdiction!

And the escapee was a Red-eyed Mutant Beast, no less!

”Investigate!”

Gao Zhengting’s suppressed roar echoed, ”Twenty-four hours—no, within twelve hours, you must capture it!”

”Also, immediately block all possible routes into the city!”

”Immediately!”

The subordinate beside him jumped in surprise, hastily acknowledged the order, and turned to leave.

Gao Zhengting clenched his fists, seething with anger.

’Why am I so unlucky?!’

’I had just performed a great service, canceling out my previous ’mistake’, and now a Mutated Beast has escaped the containment circle!’

’If this results in mass casualties, I will undoubtedly be punished!’

’How could I possibly get promoted then?’

’Promotion, my ass!’

Fortunately, this Mist Event had occurred in a sparsely populated suburb, not within Shunyang City proper. This meant the lizard was unlikely to kill too many people in the short term.

SWISH!

Gao Zhengting’s gaze shot in the direction the Red-eyed Lizard had fled. ’Luocheng City! Huayang City!’

’If the Red-eyed Lizard hasn’t entered downtown Shunyang City, which of these two cities will it head for?’

’Huayang City!’

Deep down, he hoped it would go to Huayang City.

Because Zhao Guohui and Xie Shaokun’s teams were there. Both were powerful and had a high chance of capturing it, which would reduce the number of civilian deaths.

’Fewer deaths would mean a lighter punishment for me.’

「Several hours later.」

The sky had brightened considerably.

The Red-eyed Lizard still hadn’t been found. There was no sign of it entering downtown Shunyang City, nor were there any reports of ’people eaten by a monster’.

’Looks like it went to Huayang City or Luocheng City!’

Gao Zhengting felt completely powerless.

He knew this incident was probably going to be even more troublesome than he had imagined.

...

...

「Huayang City.」

Inside Zhao Guohui’s office.

The moment the Red-eyed Lizard escaped the containment circle, Gao Zhengting had reported it to his superiors and personally called Zhao Guohui to explain the situation.

Therefore, Zhao Guohui had also dispatched numerous personnel to tightly lock down downtown Huayang City, constantly monitoring the situation both inside and around the city.

Currently, they still had nothing.

”There’s no sign of the Red-eyed Lizard in either Shunyang City or Luocheng City,” Chen Xiao said with a grave expression.

”There’s a high probability that thing came our way.”

”It couldn’t have just vanished,” Qian Yihao said, both furious and worried. ”The fact that we haven’t found it yet just proves how incompetent we are.”

”Especially Gao Zhengting, he’s even more incompetent!”

”Letting such a terrifying creature escape!”

”That’s a Red-eyed Mutant Beast we’re talking about!”

”Even I couldn’t beat it!”

Having gone through so many Mist Events, Qian Yihao’s power had progressed rapidly. Already a King of Soldiers with outstanding physical talent, he was now on the verge of breaking through to the First Grade Spiritual Ability Realm at any moment.

”That’s enough.”

Zhao Guohui waved his hand dismissively. ”Instead of complaining, let’s think about what to do.”

”Zhao Group.”

Little Song, who was standing nearby, spoke up, ”Zhao Group, Ning Group has sent over a thousand warriors as reinforcements, and they are already in position. If we can confirm the Red-eyed Lizard is in Huayang City, surrounding cities like Shunyang and Luocheng will also send reinforcements.”

”Mm.”

Zhao Guohui nodded.

Reinforcements were necessary.

Under these circumstances, the only way to find and kill the Red-eyed Lizard quickly was through sheer numbers!

”Tell Ning Group,” he continued.

”Just sending ordinary warriors won’t cut it.”

”I need masters at the First Grade Spiritual Ability Realm!”

”At the very least, they need to be on par with Qian Yihao’s strength.”

”Otherwise, we’ll be at a huge disadvantage against the Red-eyed Lizard.”

”Yes, sir!”

Little Song turned and left to contact Ning Group.

Zhao Guohui looked at Chen Xiao and said, ”Chen Xiao, you must ensure there are no large gatherings of people inside or outside of Huayang City.”

”Yes, sir!”

Chen Xiao nodded and left.

”Qian Yihao.”

Zhao Guohui continued his orders, ”You will patrol via helicopter. If you spot the Red-eyed Lizard, go there immediately and do everything you can to hold it down! Wait for fresh reinforcements!”

”Remember, ensure your own safety above all.”

”Don’t be reckless.”

”Don’t worry, Zhao Group. I might even be able to use this as an opportunity to break through!”

His face full of fighting spirit, Qian Yihao took his leave.

Zhao Guohui didn’t say anything more.

After so many Mist Events, he understood Qian Yihao quite well.

The guy might seem reckless, but he was actually smarter than anyone. Plus, his combat skills were exceptionally polished and he was rich in battle experience. The chances of something happening to him were low.

’As for me...’

He looked at the map of Huayang City on the wall, his brow deeply furrowed. ’The Red-eyed Lizard absolutely cannot appear in the urban area.’

「A little over ten minutes later.」

Little Song knocked and entered. ”Ning Group says the higher-ups are sending a Superpower User to assist with this operation. He can only help us by reassigning two warriors on par with Qian Yihao.”

”Good!”

Zhao Guohui nodded, already quite satisfied with this result.

”By the way,”

Little Song continued his report, ”Zhao Group, the Blood Spirit Gu you applied for will be personally escorted by the Superpower User from the higher-ups. It should arrive this morning.”

’Blood Spirit Gu?’

’Oh.’

’That’s the resource for Xia Yu.’

’Wait!’

’Xia Yu!’

”I can ask her for help!”

Zhao Guohui’s eyes lit up. He quickly pulled out his phone, waving Little Song away as he dialed Xia Yu’s number.

Soon, the call connected.
