I Return From Hell

Chapter 164: Chapter 157: Resentful Corpse vs. Resentful Corpse

”Don’t kill me.”

Blood gushed from Xie Chengyong’s shoulder.

He struggled to his feet, but couldn’t manage to stand. He ended up just sitting on the floor, his face a mask of terror as he begged for his life. ”Xiao Xuan, you’re Xiao Xuan!”

”This... this is impossible!”

”Aren’t you dead?”

Xia Yu didn’t move, remaining in place as she watched the scene unfold. She could see five finger-sized bloody holes in Xie Chengyong’s right shoulder.

Logically, an injury like that shouldn’t be fatal.

But Xie Chengyong was extremely weak—something that was obvious from the sound of his voice.

THUMP.

The pajama-clad Resentful Corpse, the one called ’Xiao Xuan,’ walked out of the bathroom step by step. The flashlight beam revealed a deathly pale face.

It was the woman from the funeral portrait!

She had come back to life!

She drew closer, step by step.

”No.”

”Xiao Xuan, listen to me.”

At this moment, Xie Chengyong completely ignored his own injuries. Clutching his shoulder with one hand and his chest with the other, he spoke in an increasingly weak voice, ”You were so clingy back then, threatening me. I got impulsive and did something stupid.”

”I didn’t want to go to jail, so... so I had no choice but to wall up your body.”

”I was wrong. I really know I was wrong now.”

’So that’s how it is.’

’This pajama-clad Resentful Corpse is the graduate student Xie Chengyong was mentoring back then?’

Hearing this, Xia Yu instantly understood everything.

Back then, his ex-wife had gone to prison for setting fire to the hotel, serving several years. The graduate student who had an affair with Xie Chengyong didn’t fare any better, as she ended up being murdered by his own hands.

She had been sealed away in this hotel forever.

If not for the advent of the Mist Event, she might never have been discovered!

THUD.

Xie Chengyong seemed badly injured. He couldn’t even sit up straight, propping himself up with the hand that had been on his shoulder. He was still trying to bargain for his life. ”Please, give me a chance to turn over a new leaf.”

”Please.”

”From now on, I’ll only love you. I’ll never abandon you again...”

As he spoke, his voice grew fainter and fainter.

It seemed that even if the pajama-clad Resentful Corpse didn’t kill him, he would slowly bleed out and die anyway.

This struck Xia Yu as rather strange.

’A shoulder wound shouldn’t be fatal, right?’

’Could it be that this Resentful Corpse’s fingernails are coated in some kind of corpse poison?’

The pajama-clad Resentful Corpse didn’t give Xie Chengyong the chance to die slowly. She lunged forward and stomped on his head.

SPLAT.

Xie Chengyong’s head burst open on the spot.

Dead.

Seeing this, Xia Yu raised an eyebrow.

’Getting revenge should dissipate its resentful energy. Without that energy, a Resentful Corpse’s power should plummet.’

’This Mist Event... is about to end.’

”Hm?”

The next moment, Xia Yu realized the pajama-clad Resentful Corpse’s resentful energy hadn’t diminished at all!

In fact, it had even increased!

???

This scene, which defied all logic, instantly made her realize something was wrong.

She took a closer look.

Her gaze locked onto Xie Chengyong’s chest. Blood was still gurgling from it. Although the dim light and his clothing made it hard to see the exact location of the wound, she had a guess:

Xie Chengyong probably hadn’t died at the hands of the Resentful Corpse. Someone else had stabbed him in the heart.

So...

”Someone’s in the bathroom!”

Xia Yu stared intently into the pitch-black bathroom and said, ”Who is it? Who killed Xie Chengyong? Who held a grudge against him?”

She couldn’t help but recall what Xie Chengyong had said—about someone entering the fourth floor and nearly getting him killed.

Moreover, the ghost on the fourth floor needed a living person to possess. Xie Chengyong was dead now, but that ghost still hadn’t appeared.

Wasn’t the implication obvious?

”Watch out!”

Before she could think it through, the Resentful Corpse charged at her.

SWOOSH.

Little Flower rushed forward to meet it.

BAM.

Their fists collided violently.

As expected, Little Flower was knocked back three steps, while the pajama-clad Resentful Corpse only retreated two.

The difference in their power was clear at a glance!

BAM.

BAM.

...

The two clashed again.

They moved at extreme speeds, their figures a blur in the dim light, impossible for an ordinary person to follow.

Even Xia Yu had to squint to keep up.

She didn’t rush to intervene.

There were three reasons for this:

First, she needed to use Little Flower to test if the pajama-clad Resentful Corpse had any other tricks up its sleeve.

Second, she needed to stay on guard against the ghost lurking in the shadows!

Third, Little Flower’s own power was not to be underestimated; it wouldn’t be defeated in a short amount of time.

The combat prowess of these two Resentful Corpses was nothing short of terrifying. In just over ten seconds, they had completely wrecked the entire hallway.

The doors on both sides were destroyed, sending splinters flying.

The walls were riddled with holes.

’The Resentful Corpse’s Power, speed, and Defense are all far superior to Little Flower’s. It even has combat experience on par with Little Flower’s!’

’How could a newly formed Resentful Corpse possibly possess combat experience?’

Xia Yu’s brows furrowed.

She had thought Little Flower could hold out longer by relying on its combat experience, but she never expected the Resentful Corpse to have fighting experience as well. This put Little Flower at a complete disadvantage.

”Hm?”

She then noticed another anomaly. ’Why does the pajama-clad Resentful Corpse’s movements... stiffen up from time to time?’

It was as if someone were controlling the pajama-clad Resentful Corpse, and they weren’t very skilled at it yet.

BANG!

Just then, Little Flower was sent flying by a kick, crashing through the door of a nearby room.

The pajama-clad Resentful Corpse followed close behind.

The two resumed their great battle inside the room.

SWOOSH.

Xia Yu knew she had to make her move soon.

Otherwise, Little Flower was likely to lose a limb, and that kind of injury couldn’t be repaired with resentful energy.

Losing a limb would inevitably affect its combat effectiveness.

So...

”Hm?”

In the dim light, she noticed a figure move inside the bathroom.

”Who?”

Xia Yu’s entire body tensed.

”Haha.”

A hoarse and grating laugh rang out.

A stooped figure walked out of the bathroom.

It was the janitor!

It was her!

Xia Yu’s pupils contracted. She instinctively tightened her grip on the Blood Butterfly, but didn’t make a move, choosing to wait and see what would happen. At the same time, she ordered Little Flower to abandon its attack and focus completely on Defense.

Stall for time!

”Xie Chengyong!”

”You’re finally dead! Finally dead! Haha...”

The janitor walked over to Xie Chengyong’s side as if no one else was there. Not a trace of resentful energy emanated from her. She began to speak, ”Back then, you betrayed me and got involved with your own student. You even sent me to prison with your own hands. Did you ever imagine this day would come?”

”You have no idea what I’ve been through all these years.”

”You didn’t even know who I was when I was standing right in front of you!”

”I applied for the janitor job here, working tirelessly and without complaint, all for the chance to kill you.”

”Now, I finally found it. I finally ended the life of an animal like you with my own hands!”

”Haha.”

Looking at the woman’s head of white hair, her wrinkled face, and her coarse skin, Xia Yu’s brows furrowed deeply.

’This woman doesn’t seem to be possessed by a ghost?’

’Where did the ghost from the fourth floor go?’
