I Return From Hell

Chapter 121: Chapter 114: My Resentful Corpse Is Growing Up

The XX Residential Complex.

Too many people had died in the fire a few years ago, so most of the residents had moved away. The already old and worn-down complex had become even more desolate.

You couldn’t find a single person around, not even an old one, let alone anyone young.

Xia Yu drove straight in. As she neared the tall, charred building, she felt a distinct chill. Her eyes lit up. ”Yin Qi!”

Just as she’d expected.

Little Flower sent a signal, confirming it.

”There’s more Yin Qi here than in the cemetery.”

Xia Yu sensed it carefully, then, quite satisfied, led Little Flower into the tall building.

At that very moment, some of the residents who hadn’t moved out yet noticed the scene, and looks of confusion appeared on their faces.

After all, it had been years since anyone had driven such a nice car here.

Especially a young woman.

’Isn’t she afraid of ghosts?’

’The stories about this place are terrifying.’

”Probably an outdoor livestreamer?”

”Doing something edgy for clicks.”

”Maybe. Kids these days have no fear. Coming here at night looking for a thrill.”

...

The residents shook their heads, turned their attention away, and went back to their own business.

All except for one household.

This family lived on the first floor, in a unit with a yard. Since their neighbors had long since moved out, they had simply knocked down the iron fences between the units, taking over all three yards for themselves.

Two of the yards were used for growing vegetables, and the third was for storing junk.

They lived quite comfortably.

Just then, the man of the house was having a barbecue and drinking beer with a few of his buddies. A dozen or so empty bottles were scattered on the ground, a clear sign they had already had a lot to drink.

”Brother Tu, did those two go into that building?”

”Looks like it.”

”Let’s go check it out. We can’t let them find the ’goods’ we have hidden there.”

”This shipment of ’goods’ is too important. We can’t afford any mistakes.”

The six men got up and hurried over.

Because Little Flower had to absorb the Yin Qi in the building bit by bit, and the lower floors had the densest concentration, Xia Yu was moving slowly. She had only just reached the second floor.

”Hey.”

”Stop! Who let you in here?”

Soon, they had caught up to her and surrounded her.

”Am I not allowed in here? Who made that rule?”

Xia Yu retorted.

Seeing that this beautiful young woman wasn’t the least bit afraid, the men were quite surprised. Their leader, Brother Tu, couldn’t figure out her background, so he asked politely, ”Miss, what are you doing here?”

Wouldn’t anyone, man or woman, panic if they were surrounded by a group of men reeking of alcohol?

’This woman is something else!’

”If you don’t have any business with us, get out of the way. We’re going upstairs.”

Xia Yu’s brow furrowed slightly.

The Yin Qi here had been fully absorbed, and she wanted to leave.

”Upstairs?”

”How about you get on top of me instead? Haha!”

One of the men jeered, a lecherous expression on his face.

He had been shamelessly eyeing Xia Yu from the very beginning and could finally no longer hold back.

You absolutely cannot show weakness to this kind of man.

Because if you tolerate it, he’ll only get more aggressive. The next second, it might not just be talk; he might start getting handsy.

So...

BAM.

Little Flower suddenly struck, and a single punch knocked out several of the man’s teeth, filling his mouth with blood.

He passed out on the spot.

”What the fuck.”

”You’re fucking asking to die!”

”Get them!”

...

Brother Tu and the others were about to attack and avenge their friend.

Xia Yu couldn’t be bothered to fight them. She pulled out a pistol and aimed the dark muzzle at Brother Tu, who was at the front of the charge.

”You...”

Brother Tu trembled all over, then pretended to be tough. ”Who do you think you’re scaring? I wasn’t born yesterday!”

Xia Yu didn’t waste words. She reached out and took the down jacket that Little Flower had taken off.

’What does that mean?’

The men froze, momentarily confused.

They watched as Xia Yu wrapped the jacket around the pistol, layer after layer, then aimed at the ground in front of Brother Tu and pulled the trigger.

BANG.

A muffled gunshot rang out.

A bullet hole appeared in the concrete floor.

’A real gun?!’

’Holy shit!!’

’We can’t mess with her!’

Terrified, Brother Tu and his men scrambled backward, raising their hands high in surrender with looks of pure horror on their faces. ”Don’t kill us! We’re just a bunch of nobodies running errands!”

”That’s right, we’re just part-timers for a debt collection agency. Yeah, temps! You know what temps are, right? The kind of job where we take the fall when things go wrong and do the grunt work when they don’t.”

”We didn’t even want to kidnap the woman upstairs! It’s her husband who owes millions and won’t pay it back. He’s got a celebrity daughter, but he just wants to be a deadbeat debtor...”

Xia Yu had no patience for their nonsense. To prevent them from running off and causing unnecessary trouble later...

She commanded simply, ”Lead the way.”

”Huh?”

”What ’huh’? Start walking. Upstairs. When I say stop, you stop.”

”Yes! Yes! Yes!”

”And bring him with you.”

”Right, right, right.”

Brother Tu and his men hastily picked up their unconscious companion and started climbing the stairs.

「The Fifth Floor.」

They reached the floor where the kidnapped woman was being held, but Xia Yu didn’t let them stop. Brother Tu and his men found it strange but didn’t dare ask any questions.

If the kidnapped woman escaped or was rescued, they would be in deep trouble; their boss wouldn’t let them off the hook.

It was for the best if the gun-toting woman behind them wasn’t here to rescue the hostage.

「The Tenth Floor.」

By now, everyone was panting from exhaustion.

After all, climbing stairs is tiring enough, but it’s even more exhausting when you have to carry a friend.

「The Twentieth Floor.」

The men were completely unable to climb any further.

BANG.

Just as they were about to sit down and rest, the gunshot rang out.

The sound jolted them back to their feet, and they hurriedly mustered what little strength they had left to keep climbing.

「The Twenty-Sixth Floor.」

They finally reached the top floor just as night had completely fallen.

Brother Tu and his men had a terrible premonition: ’She’s not going to make us jump off the roof, is she?!’

’It’s so high!’

’A fall from here would be certain death!’

’If that’s what she wants...’ They exchanged glances, and each saw a ruthless glint in the others’ eyes.

TAP.

Then, they heard the sound of footsteps behind them, heading back down the stairs.

???

Brother Tu and his men were utterly baffled. ’What kind of game is she playing now?’

Once they realized she had actually left, they breathed a sigh of relief, but their relief was overshadowed by sheer bewilderment. Finally, one of them could only say, ”Some women, you just can’t mess with.”

”A woman’s heart is a needle at the bottom of the ocean. Impossible to figure out.”

Meanwhile, Xia Yu was heading downstairs, a slight frown on her face.

”Still too slow.”

On this trip, the completion progress for Little Flower’s fourth metamorphosis had slowly increased from 2% to 6%.

Logically speaking, that was already quite fast.

But compared to the rate at which the Resentful Corpse was growing in power, it was still far too slow.

If she had been able to come here ten years later, the amount of Yin Qi might have been considerable. But alas, there were no ”if onlys.”

”Help me.”

”Please, I’m begging you, help me.”

The woman’s desperate cries for help reached her ears.

’She was tied up so tightly, yet she still managed to get that rag out of her mouth?’

Xia Yu was rather surprised, but it had nothing to do with her.

She didn’t break her stride, continuing down the stairs.

”Miss, your glabella is dark and your primordial spirit is scattered. This is a sign of great misfortune.”

The woman’s voice rang out again.

Xia Yu’s footsteps faltered.
