I Return From Hell

Chapter 118: Chapter 111: I’m Raising a Resentful Corpse in the City

HUM.

The car stopped downstairs.

Xia Yu instructed, ”Little Flower, you wait here.”

Little Flower nodded, curiously surveying his surroundings.

Seeing this, Xia Yu didn’t say anything and turned to head upstairs.

During her breakthrough to the First Grade Spiritual Ability Realm, her body had been thoroughly remolded, expelling impurities from within. This left her feeling sticky and with a slight odor.

It was very uncomfortable.

She needed to take a shower as soon as possible.

CLICK.

The door opened.

Xia Yu glanced at the state of the apartment and knew her younger brother, Xia Tian, was home. Without a word, she grabbed a change of clothes and headed straight for the bathroom.

「Inside.」

’Sis is back!’

Xia Tian quickly hid the Nail Gun he was modifying and signed off with Wang Zhe, who was on a video call with him. ”Talk to you later.”

Wang Zhe got the hint instantly.

CLICK.

Pushing the door open, Xia Tian caught a new fragrance in the air. ”Sis, did you put on perfume? Why do you smell so nice?”

「Inside the bathroom.」

Xia Yu had just pulled off her pants, revealing a pair of long, perfectly straight legs. Her flawless, fair skin was like fine white jade, practically glowing under the light.

’Fragrant?’

A slight smile touched her lips as she replied, ”Been a few days and you’ve already become a sweet-talker.”

「Outside the bathroom.」

Xia Tian scratched his head. ”Huh? I’m just being honest.”

”Alright, you smooth-talker! Hurry up and get me something to eat. I’m starving.”

”Oh, okay.”

”Make a lot. I’m ravenous.”

The breakthrough had consumed a tremendous amount of energy, leaving her famished.

She urgently needed to replenish her energy.

「Over half an hour later.」

The meal was ready.

One meat dish, one vegetable dish.

A large bowl of steaming rice and a pair of chopsticks.

Everything was laid out neatly.

Fresh from her bath, Xia Yu looked like a fairy straight out of a painting. She had planned to dry her hair before eating, but the aroma of the food was too tempting to resist. She quickly twisted the water from her hair, gave it a quick wipe, and started to eat.

Xia Tian stared, dumbfounded. He couldn’t help but say, ”Sis, you’re... so beautiful.”

Without looking up, Xia Yu said, ”What? Was I not beautiful before?”

”No, no, no.”

His instincts for self-preservation kicking in, Xia Tian quickly added, ”I mean, you’re even more beautiful now.”

Xia Yu: ”That’s more like it.”

After her breakthrough, her complexion had improved, her skin growing fairer and more supple, as if she were radiating light. Even her body’s proportions had subtly shifted, becoming even more perfect.

In other words, she was indeed more beautiful.

”Sis, did you change your makeup?”

Xia Tian guessed.

THWACK.

Xia Yu tapped Xia Tian on the head with the back of her chopsticks. ”If you don’t know what to say, just say less. No one will mistake you for a mute.”

”Your sister here is what you call a natural beauty.”

The corner of Xia Tian’s mouth twitched.

’As if I don’t know what you were like before.’

’She must have just been taking really good care of her skin lately!’

”Sis.”

”I had a friend find a badminton coach for you.”

”If you have time in the next day or two, I can take you to the courts?”

He decisively changed the subject.

Xia Yu frowned. ”Didn’t I tell you not to find one?”

’Finding Yin Qi.’

’Training my body.’

’Raising Da Miao and Er Miao.’

’Building a survival base for the Apocalypse.’

...

’A mountain of things to do!’

’I’m too busy to handle it all, where would I find time to play badminton?’

”Sis... why don’t you quit your job? We have enough money to last until I get into college. Once I’m in, I can start earning my own money.”

Xia Tian struggled to find the right words, but finally, he steeled himself and said, ”For now, you should focus on getting more exercise. That’s more important than earning money.”

”I hate seeing you get sick so often.”

”Besides, I went out of my way to have a good friend find this coach. If you don’t go, I...”

Before he could continue, Xia Yu cut him off. ”You’re getting more and more long-winded.”

”I give up, honestly.”

Sensing her brother’s concern, she said, ”You’re just doing all this to get me to exercise, aren’t you?”

”I’ll start jogging every morning. Happy now?”

”Deal.”

Xia Tian smiled and nodded, completely unbothered by his sister’s exasperation.

”By the way, shouldn’t you be at your evening study session now? Why are you home?”

”That piece of jade you got for me...”

”It’s called a Soul Spirit Jade.”

”Right, a Soul Spirit Jade! If it can guarantee me an extra 20 points on the college entrance exams, then what’s the point of trying so hard? I’m planning on skipping all my evening study sessions from now on.”

”Cut the crap.”

”Ahem... I can’t get anything past you. The main reason is that a couple of days ago, one of the top students jumped off a building during the evening session. The school got spooked and canceled them.”

...

...

「The next day.」

Xia Yu got up early and ran twenty kilometers at a blistering pace.

Many of the old men out for their morning jogs saw her, shook their heads with a smile, and thought, ’This young lady is clearly a beginner. Who starts off sprinting like that?’

’Does she think this is a hundred-meter dash?’

Xia Yu, of course, paid no attention to their stares. She quickly left group after group of the old men in her dust. Over an hour later, she returned home, drenched in sweat.

She took a quick shower in the bathroom.

Then, she came out to a breakfast of hot millet porridge and peeled hard-boiled eggs.

”Sis, you just started running. You should take it easy.”

Xia Tian handed her a glass of lukewarm water that he had prepared. ”A three-kilometer run should be plenty,” he advised. ”By the way, how far did you go?”

Xia Yu drained the glass in one gulp. Glancing at Xia Tian’s increasingly ruddy complexion, she grew even more satisfied with the Soul Spirit Jade’s effects. ”Not far,” she said.

The physique of a First-grade Spirit Transformer was astonishingly powerful, far surpassing the limits of an ordinary human. Many people in modern society couldn’t even meet the standard for a ’normal’ physique, let alone reach their body’s peak potential.

They would find it impossible to comprehend her physical condition.

So... she definitely wasn’t going to explain much to her brother.

After finishing her meal, she went downstairs and got into her car, her brow furrowed in thought.

”Hm?”

’The Resentful Corpse’s power has grown again?’

’Is there really this much resentful energy in the neighborhood?’

”That stupid manager... he made me revise the proposal six or seven times, and in the end, he just went with the original. I’m so fucking over it.”

A young man holding a cup of soy milk walked past the car, muttering curses under his breath.

Instantly, a faint wisp of resentful energy seeped from the man and into Little Flower’s body.

Xia Yu understood everything in an instant.

At the same time, she was shocked. ’That kind of resentful energy is so faint and dissipates quickly. The Resentful Corpse can even absorb that?’

’If this continues, Little Flower won’t be able to suppress it for much longer!’

’I have to increase Little Flower’s power as soon as possible!’

「The Unfinished Building.」

Da Miao and Er Miao were still doing fine. They hadn’t changed, other than having grown larger.

After Xia Yu arrived, she watered them with her own blood.

Afterward, she began the introductions. ”Everyone, this is our team’s newest member, Little Flower.”

’Little Flower?’

’A grown man named Little Flower?’

”Brother Hua.”

Xie Shaokun and Little Nannan found it strange, but they still greeted him warmly.

Little Flower nodded, forcing a smile that looked worse than a grimace.

Both Xie Shaokun and Little Nannan found the man a bit odd and were curious as to why Yu would bring someone like him onto the team.

But Xia Yu offered no explanation.

”Yu.”

Seeing this, Xie Shaokun hesitated for a moment before asking, ”Um... can I recommend someone to join our team?”

At his words, Xia Yu’s brow furrowed.

Xie Shaokun quickly assured her, ”Her name is Chen Ziqi. She’s a good person. We met her during the Mist Event.”

Little Nannan added, ”If it weren’t for her, I probably would have been injured, or even killed.”

”Oh?”

Xia Yu glanced at Little Nannan.

Little Nannan immediately recounted the events in detail.

”She has no superpower?”

Xia Yu asked, looking at Xie Shaokun’s expectant face.

Xie Shaokun shook his head.

”Is her absorption rate for Heaven and Earth Spiritual Power as fast as Little Nannan’s?”

Xia Yu asked again.

”Probably not.”

Xie Shaokun shook his head again.

”Then tell me, on what grounds should she join our team? You have a superpower. Little Nannan is physically gifted, skilled at tracking, and a good shot. What is *she* good at?”

Xia Yu retorted, ”Just because she’s a good person?”

”Er...”

Xie Shaokun froze. ”Didn’t you say that the most important qualities in a person are their character and loyalty, Yu? That personal ability is secondary.”

Xia Yu said coolly, ”There are plenty of good people in the world. Should I let them all join my team?”

”And as for loyalty... can you guarantee she won’t betray us?”

”Even if you trust her, I don’t.”

’She didn’t even fully trust Little Nannan and was already thinking about how to get something like a Servant Spirit Species to control her.’

’There was no way she would trust a Chen Ziqi she’d never even met!’

”Personal ability may be secondary, but it is still a necessity.”

Xia Yu stressed, ”Every member must be useful to the team. How can she help us?”

Xie Shaokun was suddenly at a loss for words.

He looked at Little Flower and retorted, unconvinced, ”Then what about him? What’s his use? Is he just good-looking?”

He immediately realized he had overstepped, but the words were already out. He could only steel himself and see it through.

”Him?”

Xia Yu glanced at Little Flower. ”He’s an excellent fighter, has immense potential, and his power grows at an incredible rate.”

”Is that so?”

Xie Shaokun stretched his limbs, tossed his pig-killing knife to the ground, and said, ”When it comes to a fight, I’m not afraid of anyone.”

Seeing Xie Shaokun’s eagerness, Xia Yu’s lips curved into a slight smile. ”What a coincidence. Little Flower isn’t afraid of anyone in a fight, either. Why don’t you two... have a little spar?”

”Is it really okay for me to bully Brother Hua right after he joined?”

Xie Shaokun’s words were modest, but his body was honest. He moved to a clear space and looked at Little Flower. ”A purely physical brawl. You good with that, Brother Hua?”
