His Beloved Treasure

Chapter 2408: Chapter 687: Returning (5)

The man seemed slightly disappointed; this woman sure knows how to crush a person’s spirit, with her silence.

He walked over, opening the cigarette box in front of her. Qin Mu then slightly moved her eyelids and plucked a cigarette from it, holding it between her lips as the man already held the lighter in hand, shielding it from the sea breeze, lighting it for her.

Qin Mu took a harsh drag and continued looking at the ocean.

The man also lit a cigarette and smiled, ”Seems like Miss Qin has something on her mind!”

Upon hearing how he addressed her, Qin Mu turned to look at him. The man was taller than her, dressed in a suit, and his smile exuded the air of a gentleman?

However, men often use such looks to confuse women, and at her age, she naturally wouldn’t be fooled easily. She simply smiled softly, ”Yes!”

The man thought her voice was exceedingly pleasant, though she was so aloof, saying only two uninteresting words, yet in this cold and silent night, it felt quite special.

”Being here alone so late, most people probably have some knots in their hearts!”

He took a drag from his cigarette, releasing circle after circle of silver smoke that was instantly carried away by the wind, as he spoke lightly, his eyes smiling but filled with thought, filled with loss.

Qin Mu had a cigarette between her fingers but scarcely smoked; she was not used to chatting and smoking with strange men. She looked at him, ”Seems like this gentleman also has something on his mind?”

”If Miss Qin has time, I indeed would like to confide.”

He was just worried for lack of a confidant.

Qin Mu then turned around with some playful curiosity, leaning against the nearby stone pillar and watching him.

”Today, I just got the divorce certificate!”

The man smiled, yet there was a bitter taste at the corners of his lips.

Upon hearing the word divorce, Qin Mu didn’t know why, but she also felt solemn, ”Divorce? You seem unwilling?”

”Yes! But she wanted it, asked me to return her freedom!”

The man squinted his eyes towards the distance, where the sky and sea met, his lips still tinged with bitterness.

”So you returned her freedom?”

Qin Mu instinctively asked, feeling something indescribable inside, not quite pleasant.

”We were good for three years after marriage, and then for the following three years, we grew apart. She thought I had women outside.”

The man took another drag of his cigarette, this time especially forceful.

And Qin Mu, in his eyes, saw disappointment and bitterness.

Qin Mu also turned her head to look at the ocean, raising her hand to hold the cigarette to her lips, somehow trembling, ultimately managing to trap the cigarette between her fingers.

”I really can’t fathom what you women think. Such a small place in your minds, is it all used to suspect your man of cheating?”

The man squinted his eyes at her.

Qin Mu...

”Sorry, if I’m wrong, don’t get angry, I’m just curious. We clearly had mutual affection, free love, and were so intimate after marriage, why did she suddenly not believe me, asked me to return her freedom, did she have no bit of freedom while with me? I ask myself, I’ve never restricted her freedom.”

The man smiled, yet it seemed more painful than crying.

And Qin Mu was thinking, isn’t it that men always fail to notice where the problem in a marriage comes from, could it not be that problem arises only from one side of the couple?

The man then turned to look at her, ”Is it the same reason that Mr. Mu and Mrs. Mu ended up in divorce?”

Qin Mu...

”I don’t like talking about my own matters with strangers.”

Qin Mu replied softly, giving him a look that was neither a smile nor a frown, then looked at the ocean again while smoking.

The man chuckled bitterly at her reply, ”Seems I’ve been too careless, leaving Miss Qin, or maybe I should say Mrs. Mu, with a bad impression.”

Qin Mu was wondering if this person might know Mu Yichen, so she spoke even less.

”After all, you’re not divorced yet!”

The man said again.

”Maybe we’ll meet again in the future?”

Qin Mu slightly raised her eyes, asking him, then lowered her gaze to look at the watch on her wrist, telling him, ”It’s late, I should be going back now!”

”I won’t mention what happened tonight here to Mr. Mu!”

The man said, raising the cigarette in his hand.

Qin Mu smiled lightly, tossing the cigarette butt into the nearby trash can, then pocketed her hands in her coat and walked away.

When Qin Mu returned, Chengcheng was just asleep on Mu Yichen’s lap. Mu Yichen gestured silently at her, carrying Chengcheng up from the sofa and heading upstairs. She put down her bag, sat in the spot he just vacated, feeling somewhat agitated, picking up the comic book they had just been looking at and flipping through it idly.
