Chapter 438: Chapter 438: Slaughter in the Dark Night

More than half of the three-day deadline had passed. Matters within the Flawless Palace were mostly settled; now, everything depended on what happened in Wind City. This was the most important and crucial part.

Lin Yun wasn’t the only one thinking about Wind City; Chang Jing’s attention was also focused entirely on it.

He asked a Direct Disciple before him, ”How are things in Wind City? Has any news come in?”

Hearing Chang Jing’s words, the Direct Disciple replied, ”Senior Brother Chang, there has been no unusual activity in Wind City.”

”Mm. Tell them to be on high alert tonight. Once tonight is over, the dust will have settled,” Chang Jing instructed again.

While Chang Jing and Lin Yun were focused on Wind City, Gong Lingqi was feeling quite frustrated. He had been lusting after Guang Xuanji for a long time. He had done everything he could, touched everything he could, but when it came to that final step, Guang Xuanji had never given him the chance.

Guang Xuanji was like a seductive and cunning vixen, always managing to arouse Gong Lingqi’s passions but never letting him take that final step.

Just now, after returning from his master, Gong Lingqi had Guang Xuanji in his arms. But when he tried to take things a step further, she slipped away with a coquettish smile.

Seeing the dark look on his face, Guang Xuanji said with an alluring smile, ”Senior Brother Gong, why be in such a hurry? People often say the things you can’t have are the most desirable. If I let you have me so easily, I’m afraid you wouldn’t find me so appealing anymore.”

Hearing this, Gong Lingqi said in frustration, ”You’re such a little tease. It’s the same line every time. Then you tell me, when will you let me...”

”When you become the Young Palace Master...” Guang Xuanji replied with a cunning smile.

It had to be said, Guang Xuanji was truly different from other women. Even Gong Lingqi was helpless against her; instead, she had him wrapped around her little finger.

”Senior Brother, tonight will be an exciting one. Something big is bound to happen in Wind City.” Changing the subject, Guang Xuanji chuckled lightly, covering her mouth.

”You mean Lin Yun and Chang Jing?” Gong Lingqi asked.

”Both of them need to secure that young girl’s testimony, so a struggle between them is inevitable,” Guang Xuanji said.

Time passed quietly, and soon it was late at night. Lin Yun was still sitting alone on a stone bench in the courtyard, a Sound Transmission Stone resting on the table before him.

Lin Yun was waiting—waiting for results from Li Tian. The success or failure of this night would determine the outcome of the three-day agreement.

「Meanwhile, at the He Family estate in Wind City」

Li Tian, Patriarch He, and He Yuntian were all present. Looking at Li Tian, He Yuntian asked, ”Brother Li, aren’t we making our move yet?”

Hearing He Yuntian’s words, Li Tian toyed with the Jade Token in his hand and said calmly, ”No rush.”

The young girl’s family, the Chen Family, was a minor one from the Capital City. There were dozens of families just like them in Wind City.

The strongest member of the Chen Family was the girl’s father, a cultivator at the Ninth Layer of the Primordial Ocean Realm. By this point, the dozen or so Direct Disciples dispatched by Chang Jing had already taken up residence in the Chen Family estate.

Though it was late at night, the Chen Family estate was brightly lit, with guards visible everywhere. The entire family was on high alert, as if facing a formidable enemy.

In the Chen Family’s main hall, Patriarch Chen asked one of the Direct Disciples, ”It’s already so late. Are they really coming?”

”Whether they come or not is irrelevant. We must remain on high alert. Once we make it through tonight, the dust will have settled,” the Direct Disciple replied.

It was well after midnight when Li Tian, who had remained perfectly still, suddenly sharpened his gaze. In a low voice, he said, ”Patriarch He, the time has come. Let’s move.”

Hearing this, Patriarch He nodded and immediately left the main hall.

He made his way to a secluded courtyard within the He Family’s inner compound. Patriarch He had already changed into dark, night-faring clothes, and over thirty He Family Guards were dressed in the same attire.

”Move out,” he commanded in a low voice. Patriarch He then led the thirty guards away from the He estate, heading silently toward the Chen Family’s residence.

After Patriarch He left, only He Yuntian and Li Tian remained in the main hall. Li Tian then spoke again. ”Brother He, I’ll leave the Bai Family to you.”

Hearing this, He Yuntian nodded. He then left the He estate alone, swaggering brazenly out the front gate.

Annihilating the Chen Family in Wind City was not a difficult task for a power like the He Family. However, as the administrators of Wind City, the Bai Family couldn’t possibly stand by and do nothing about such a major incident.

That was why, from the very beginning, Li Tian’s plan involved He Yuntian distracting the Bai Family.

As for how he would do it, He Yuntian would simply challenge Bai Zhicheng. Once Bai Zhicheng accepted the challenge, neither he nor the Bai Family would have the spare attention to deal with the Chen Family’s affairs. By the time their battle ended, it would be too late for the Bai Family to intervene.

Headed straight for the Bai Family estate in the dead of night, He Yuntian arrived at the front gate and roared, ”Bai Zhicheng, get your ass out here!”

Hearing He Yuntian’s shouting, a furious Bai Zhicheng quickly emerged from the estate. For days, Bai Zhicheng had failed to find a single clue connecting the He Family to the Death Row Shelter, and he was already seething with frustration. He never expected He Yuntian to come looking for trouble in the middle of the night.

”Bai Zhicheng, I’m here for a fight!” The moment he saw his rival, He Yuntian roared and attacked without waiting for a response.

Bai Zhicheng didn’t flinch. It wasn’t the first time he had fought He Yuntian. The two of them began to brawl right there at the main entrance to the Bai estate.

As the two exchanged blows, a crowd of Bai Family guards quickly gathered around the main gate.

While He Yuntian was fighting Bai Zhicheng, Patriarch He and his guards arrived at the Chen estate.

Without a single word, the He Family began their slaughter. The Chen Family members were no match for the He Family guards.

”They’re attacking! They’re here!” Patriarch Chen exclaimed nervously, hearing the sounds of slaughter outside.

”Calm down,” one of Chang Jing’s Direct Disciples said. ”By the way, have all the Chen Family members been hidden away safely?”

”Rest assured. I’ve had them all hide in the secret chamber,” Patriarch Chen replied.

The He Family members advanced with unstoppable momentum, quickly slaughtering their way to the main courtyard. Seeing so many men in black burst in, Patriarch Chen was visibly panicked, but Chang Jing’s dozen or so disciples remained relatively composed.

”By order of Senior Brother Chang, execute everyone in the Chen Family! Leave no one alive!” Patriarch He bellowed the moment he entered the main courtyard and laid eyes on Patriarch Chen.

Hearing this, the dozen or so Direct Disciples were stunned for a moment. ’An order from Chang Jing?’ They quickly came to their senses and roared furiously, ”Who are you wretched rats, slaughtering the innocent under Senior Brother Chang Jing’s name?”

”Kill them! Kill everyone who knows the truth!” Ignoring their furious shouts, Patriarch He bellowed. In an instant, the thirty-odd He Family Guards charged forward to attack.
