Chapter 423: Chapter 423: Talking with He Yuntian

Back at Luo Feng’s residence, Lin Yun was led directly into the main hall by Luo Feng. Taking the seat of honor, Luo Feng looked at Lin Yun and smiled. ”My disciple, there are both advantages and disadvantages to becoming my student. Are you aware?”

Luo Feng’s smile was quite cunning. Seeing his expression, Lin Yun quickly guessed his meaning and said, ”Master, you must be referring to the other Core Disciples, right?”

”That’s right.” Luo Feng didn’t hide anything, telling Lin Yun the situation directly.

”This generation of disciples in the Flawless Palace is in turmoil, all because there’s no one to take the lead. You’ve become a Core Disciple, and my disciple at that. The others will surely do everything in their power to get rid of you. Until you’re strong enough to overpower them all, you’re in grave danger.”

Hearing Luo Feng’s words, Lin Yun asked, ”Will Master and the Supreme Elders just let us fight amongst ourselves as we please?”

”Haha,” Luo Feng laughed heartily and immediately said.

”Which of the truly strong didn’t grow up surviving one life-or-death battle after another? Survival of the fittest is a law that exists everywhere. The Supreme Elders and I will not interfere in the struggles among the Ten Core Disciples. As for the final outcome, that will depend entirely on your own abilities.”

Luo Feng’s words were blunt. ’We won’t get involved in the struggles of you juniors. In any case, whoever wins will earn the position of Young Palace Master of the Flawless Palace.’

After hearing Luo Feng’s words, Lin Yun understood his meaning. No matter how he and the other Ten Core Disciples fought, in the end, Luo Feng and the Six Supreme Elders would only look at the result. The victor would be crowned king, the loser branded a villain.

”I understand,” he said softly. With Luo Feng’s assurance, Lin Yun could now act without restraint. He wasn’t afraid of Gong Lingqi and Chang Jing, as long as their masters didn’t interfere.

”Then, Master, what if someone dies in our struggles...?” Lin Yun finally asked.

Knowing what Lin Yun was worried about, Luo Feng smiled faintly. ”If they die, they die. Only the strong can allow the Flawless Palace to continue to prosper. No one will care about the dead.”

Understanding the intentions of Luo Feng and the Six Supreme Elders, Lin Yun no longer had any worries. ’Although their way of thinking might be cruel, that’s just how the world is. The Flawless Palace can only flourish and remain standing in the hands of the strong.’

After bidding farewell to Luo Feng, Lin Yun was told before he left that his own personal courtyard would be built within a week, right next to Luo Feng’s residential compound.

Returning to his room, Lin Yun glanced at the sleeping Little Ape. Without waking it, he left Luo Feng’s courtyard alone under the cover of night.

Using the cover of darkness, Lin Yun arrived silently before a small courtyard. This was one of the courtyards where the Ten Core Disciples lived. He knocked lightly on the gate a few times, and it soon opened.

”You’re here.” Looking at Lin Yun outside, He Yuntian spoke calmly, as if he had long known Lin Yun would come.

Entering the main hall, He Yuntian poured a cup of tea for Lin Yun.

The two sat opposite each other. He Yuntian kept sizing up Lin Yun. Seeing this, Lin Yun smiled faintly. ”Young Master He seems to be very interested in me?”

”I just wanted to see what kind of person could make an heir of the Li Family pledge his allegiance,” He Yuntian said flatly.

To be honest, from the moment he met Lin Yun until now, He Yuntian didn’t think there was anything special about him. His Cultivation was only at the Seventh Layer of Primordial Ocean Realm. He Yuntian didn’t know what it was about Lin Yun that made Li Tian work so hard for him.

Ignoring He Yuntian’s words, Lin Yun said lightly, ”You’ll find out in the future.”

”Alright. Since my He Family has already submitted to you, I will naturally follow your orders. Please speak plainly, Young Master Lin. What instructions do you have for me, coming here so late at night? I trust you didn’t come for a casual chat,” He Yuntian said.

”Good. I came to ask you to make a trip to Wind City. As for what you need to do, Li Tian will inform you when you get there.” Lin Yun didn’t beat around the bush and spoke directly.

”To Wind City? Young Master Lin, you want to make a move on Bai Zhicheng?” Hearing Lin Yun’s words, He Yuntian was only slightly stunned before quickly guessing Lin Yun’s objective.

Nodding with a light chuckle, Lin Yun confirmed He Yuntian’s guess was spot on. ’Now that I’ve become a Core Disciple, there’s no escaping this conflict. Since that’s the case, I’d better strike first.’

Moreover, Luo Feng’s words today had made it very clear to Lin Yun. ’When you’re caught in the middle of it, some things are not about whether you’re willing or not. If you don’t make a move, others will.’

”Then when do you want me to depart, Young Master Lin?” He Yuntian asked.

”The sooner, the better. Also, have your subordinates keep a close watch on Gong Lingqi and Chang Jing’s movements. I want to know their every move, every day,” Lin Yun said.

Hearing this, He Yuntian nodded. Although he didn’t know how Lin Yun planned to deal with Bai Zhicheng, he knew what he should do now that he had submitted to him. Besides, he also wanted to take this opportunity to see just what kind of tricks Lin Yun had up his sleeve.

After giving He Yuntian his instructions, Lin Yun rose to leave. As he reached the door, he suddenly said, ”By the way, Li Tian isn’t my subordinate. We’re brothers. Maybe someday, you will be too.”

As his voice faded, Lin Yun’s figure disappeared into the darkness.

Hearing Lin Yun’s words, He Yuntian seemed slightly stunned before chuckling softly and muttering to himself, ”’Brothers?’”

After Lin Yun left He Yuntian’s place, over at Gong Lingqi’s residence, it was already late at night, but candlelight still flickered in his room. Inside, Gong Lingqi was discussing something with another Direct Disciple.

”Senior Brother Gong, isn’t this a bit too risky? If the Palace Master and the Supreme Elders find out, we’ll definitely be punished,” this Direct Disciple said.

Hearing this, Gong Lingqi gave a sinister smile. ”Punished? Chang Jing and I have been fighting for so long, and our masters have never said a word to us. In their eyes, all they care about is the outcome, not the process.”

”But... but...” Hearing Gong Lingqi’s words, the Direct Disciple wanted to say more, but Gong Lingqi cut him off.

”No ’buts.’ Lin Yun has just entered the Flawless Palace; now is the perfect chance to get rid of him. Go to Wood City immediately and hire an assassin from the Death Row Shelter. I want Lin Yun to learn that this Flawless Palace isn’t as simple as he thinks,” Gong Lingqi said.

Hearing this, the Direct Disciple said no more, simply nodding before exiting the room.

Back at his own residence, Lin Yun was still unaware that Gong Lingqi had made a move so quickly—and that he had gone so far as to hire an assassin from the Death Row Shelter for his Assassination.

’Lin Yun, the moment you step outside the Flawless Palace will be the day you die.’ With a sinister smile, Gong Lingqi had already laid out his plan. He was just waiting for the assassin from the Death Row Shelter to be in position. Then, he would use his own methods to get Lin Yun sent out on a mission. When that time came, he would make absolutely sure that Lin Yun never returned alive.
