Chapter 435: Chapter 435: Riddled with Crisis

Seeing the sinister smile on Chang Jing’s face, the four Disciples fell into despair. Judging by the number of people present, it was obvious Chang Jing had planned this long ago and had no intention of sparing them.

「A quarter of an hour earlier.」

Lin Yun was cultivating with his eyes closed in his room when a gentle knock sounded on his door.

Slowly opening his eyes, Lin Yun said calmly, ”Come in.”

Following Lin Yun’s command, a Direct Disciple gently pushed open the door, approached Lin Yun, and whispered, ”Senior Brother Lin, just as you predicted, Gong Lingqi has made a move.”

’Gong Lingqi?’ That was right. Lin Yun had never forgotten about someone like him. On the surface, this seemed to be a life-and-death duel between him and Chang Jing, but would a person like Gong Lingqi really have the patience to sit on the sidelines? Back when Lin Yun had Little Ape monitor Chang Jing’s every move, he had also sent someone to watch Gong Lingqi’s actions.

No one would have expected it—Gong Lingqi himself probably never imagined that under such circumstances, Lin Yun would actually send someone to monitor him.

”I knew he wouldn’t be able to sit still. Go on,” Lin Yun said lightly, gesturing for the Direct Disciple to continue.

The disciple then reported everything he had seen. Half an hour ago, ten of Gong Lingqi’s Direct Disciples had secretly followed Chang Jing to the courtyard where the four other Disciples lived. Right now, those ten men were lying in ambush around the small courtyard.

”Senior Brother Lin, Gong Lingqi’s men show no signs of making a move. There hasn’t been any unusual activity from them yet,” the Direct Disciple said.

After listening to the man, Lin Yun smiled faintly and stood up. ’Gong Lingqi isn’t making a move? He’s probably just waiting for the right time.’

’He only sent ten people. He’s probably waiting for me to go there myself.’

”I really can’t let my guard down around this guy. It seems he’s certain I’ll try to save those four tonight,” Lin Yun said with a faint smile.

Having figured out Gong Lingqi’s little scheme, Lin Yun whispered something to the Direct Disciple, who then quickly took his leave.

As things had developed, it was safe to say everything was still within Lin Yun’s control.

Although Lin Yun disliked the feeling of all this scheming and intrigue, it didn’t mean he was incapable of it. When it came to mind games, he was probably second to none. It was just that, deep down, he was repulsed by the idea of stabbing people in the back.

After all, it was dishonorable. As a Martial Artist, Lin Yun felt he should spend more time on how to improve his strength.

However, anyone who thought they could stab Lin Yun in the back was sorely mistaken.

After the Direct Disciple left, Lin Yun also departed from his own courtyard.

Tonight seemed no different from any other, but those in the know understood that this night would be anything but peaceful, especially in the Direct Disciple residential area.

He rushed from his courtyard to where Chang Jing was. Lin Yun arrived just as Chang Jing stepped into the targeted courtyard.

Concealed in the shadows, Lin Yun was soon joined by ten Direct Disciples dressed in Night Travel Clothes. If Gong Lingqi’s men had been there, they would have been astonished, because the Night Travel Clothes worn by Lin Yun’s subordinates were identical to their own.

”These ten sachets all have the same scent,” Lin Yun said, taking them out and handing them to the ten men. ”Keep them on you. When the fighting starts, use the scent to identify friend from foe so you don’t hurt our own. Got it?”

The sachets Lin Yun had taken out were very common and could be bought at any city’s cosmetics shop.

The ten men nodded in understanding. Seeing their affirmation, Lin Yun walked toward the courtyard alone.

Back in the courtyard, Chang Jing’s voice had just faded. He was about to order his men to attack when, unexpectedly, a shout came from outside the gate. ”Senior Brother Chang Jing, being in such a hurry to silence witnesses... aren’t you afraid of disheartening your own men?”

Watching Lin Yun slowly walk through the gate, Chang Jing’s expression remained unchanged, but the smile on his face grew even colder. ”Lin Yun. Excellent. Now that you’re here, things will be much simpler today.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Chang Jing roared, ”Attack!”

At his command, the dozens of subordinates Chang Jing had brought with him all drew their Spirit Soldiers. Instantly, they all charged toward the four disciples, while Chang Jing moved to block Lin Yun’s path.

”You want to kill them and frame me for it?” Watching the men move in for the kill, Lin Yun wasn’t flustered at all. Instead, he spoke with a smile.

”That’s right. I’d like to see how you’ll explain yourself then,” Chang Jing didn’t deny it. After all, he held all the advantages right now.

Hearing this, a devilish smile appeared on Lin Yun’s face. Seeing that smile, Chang Jing felt a pang of doubt. ’Could it be that Lin Yun has something up his sleeve?’

And just as he suspected, at that very moment, ten figures in Night Travel Clothes suddenly rushed into the already chaotic courtyard. All ten were masked, their identities completely hidden.

Upon appearing, these ten didn’t attack the four Direct Disciples, nor did they go for Chang Jing or Lin Yun. Instead, they charged at Chang Jing’s subordinates.

”Lin Yun, do you really think these ten people are enough to turn the tide?” After his initial panic, Chang Jing quickly calmed down. ’It’s only ten people. What good can they do?’

However, hearing Chang Jing’s question, Lin Yun just smiled faintly and replied, ”Who said they were my men?”

The moment Lin Yun’s voice fell, another ten people in Night Travel Clothes rushed in. Just like the first group, these ten were also masked, their identities unknown.

With another ten people rushing in, their targets were even more chaotic. They attacked not only Chang Jing’s subordinates but also the first group of ten men in black.

”Lin Yun, what is the meaning of this?” The scene instantly devolved into utter chaos, and Chang Jing turned to Lin Yun to demand an answer.

”It means nothing. Since Senior Brother Chang Jing wanted to play, then I naturally had to make the stage a little bigger,” Lin Yun said with a laugh.

The scene was a mess of confusion. Twenty men in black, all in identical clothes and masks, made it impossible to tell who was who. For a moment, a chaotic melee erupted throughout the courtyard.

The sudden melee actually allowed three of the four targeted Direct Disciples to survive. Though one of them still died, the other three were mostly unharmed.

Seeing the three survivors cowering in a corner, terrified, Lin Yun suddenly shouted to them, ”You three, run for your lives! Are you just going to wait here to be killed?”

At Lin Yun’s shout, the three immediately scrambled over the wall and fled. Chang Jing watched them disappear into the night, but when he turned his head back, he was stunned to find that Lin Yun, who had been standing right in front of him, had also vanished.

Lin Yun was gone. At that moment, Chang Jing sensed something was wrong. Things were too chaotic. ’Who on earth are these twenty men in black?’ He instinctively felt that he had fallen into a trap set by Lin Yun.
