Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

29: Chapter 29 Unexpected DevelopmentsThe chase in the stratosphere officially began.

Lin Sheng flew desperately ahead, with dozens of monsters several hundred meters long trailing behind him.

Lin Sheng had originally intended to escape the pursuit by making them kill each other.

But now, he discovered in despair that these monsters seemed to have made him their primary target.

As long as he was still alive, it seemed impossible for those monsters to start fighting among themselves.

”System, how many evolution points do I have left?”

[Ding]

[Host evolution points remaining: 654565]

”System, consume 300,000 evolution points to undergo a normal Evolution.”

With his life hanging by a thread, Lin Sheng didn’t believe he could evade the pursuit of so many terrifying predators, so he decisively chose Evolution.

He would be invincible during Evolution; as long as those monsters didn’t camp around him, he could escape the danger once the Evolution was complete.

Although the monsters were all chasing him, Lin Sheng could also see that they were wary of each other.

Once he, their target, disappeared, those monsters would inevitably start slaughtering one another.

[Ding]

[This Evolution will last for one stellar

day of this planet; please wait patiently, Host.]

Lin Sheng had already expected that the Evolution duration would shorten.

One day should be enough for those monsters to finish their slaughter.

Lin Sheng’s body suddenly jerked to a halt ahead. The monsters chasing him instantly swarmed forward. Lin Sheng’s consciousness floated above his body, watching helplessly as his physical form was submerged by the monsters.

A miraculous scene unfolded: the monsters didn’t actually touch Lin Sheng’s stationary body. The attacks they launched at him passed right through his body, as if he were in a different dimension from them.

”Roar! Roar!”

”Lue lue lue!”

”Woo~”

”Awoo!”

Almost simultaneously, various roars erupted from the mouths of these monsters.

The safe distance they had originally maintained was broken during this attack on Lin Sheng.

Lin Sheng’s body was only 30 meters long. With these hundred-meter giants attacking such a small area at once, some physical contact was inevitable.

And for these frenzied monsters, a simple physical bump could easily become the fuse for a battle.

Sure enough, upon discovering they couldn’t land an attack on Lin Sheng, the monsters immediately turned their spearheads toward their former ”comrades.”

The most frenzied among them was none other than the Atmospheric Creature that had been relentlessly chasing Lin Sheng from the start.

Relying on its massive size and innate advantages, it rampaged through the pack of monsters.

As its jaws snapped open and shut, a monster barely a hundred meters long was swallowed whole.

Lin Sheng watched from the side, heart pounding with fear, but fortunately, given the current situation, the battle would likely end soon.

”Roar! Roar!”

”Awoo!”

Just as Lin Sheng was thinking this, a wave of hissing and roaring suddenly echoed from the surrounding clouds.

These roars were clearly from different species; they had undoubtedly been attracted by the battle here.

Lin Sheng also noticed the changes occurring on the battlefield.

Because the commotion here was so great, some of the surrounding creatures had been drawn in.

Some watched from the edges of the battlefield, occasionally looking for a chance to scavenge, but these were only a small minority.

The vast majority saw the bloody slaughter and immediately went berserk, charging into the fray without a second thought.

Lin Sheng also noticed a detail: the creatures that charged in mindlessly could basically be described as ”monsters,” while those watching from the periphery, though strange-looking, at least didn’t have horrifying things sprouting from their bodies during combat.

...

Seeing that his Evolution was nearing completion while the battle showed no signs of stopping—instead growing even more intense—Lin Sheng focused his attention, planning to leave the battlefield the moment the Evolution finished.

Although this battle had exceeded Lin Sheng’s expectations, based on his observations, the creatures that had initially chased him were mostly dead.

As long as he left this area immediately, those giant creatures shouldn’t notice a small thirty-meter bug like him.

Even if he were noticed, he wasn’t afraid; Lin Sheng’s remaining 300,000 evolution points were reserved for just such a moment.

Thinking this, Lin Sheng checked the remaining time for his Evolution; there were over fifty minutes left, less than an hour to go.

For the remaining time, Lin Sheng could enjoy an epic blockbuster.

Watching the hundreds of monsters still fighting fiercely below, Lin Sheng suddenly felt the sky above him darken.

He looked up sharply, and an unidentified monster of seemingly infinite proportions blocked his vision.

The monster’s underbelly was honeycomb-shaped, with countless eyes larger than lanterns staring out from the cells at Lin Sheng, making his heart race with panic.

”Gulp.”

Even knowing he was currently invincible, under the pressure of such a terrifying entity, Lin Sheng couldn’t help but swallow hard.

He slowly drifted further away, as if afraid of being discovered by this monster.

Only after distancing himself did Lin Sheng see the monster’s full appearance.

This monster had a pair of wings stacked in three layers. Lin Sheng estimated that a single wing was as long as the Atmospheric Creature that had been chasing him earlier.

These three-layered wings were attached to the monster’s body as if specifically designed for flight.

Except for the wings, not a single organ on the monster’s entire body made sense to Lin Sheng.

Lin Sheng hadn’t found any organs resembling eyes on the monster’s body either, and he didn’t understand how it navigated.

This thought only lingered for a moment before he found out.

Countless creatures with a single crimson eye atop their heads ”swam” out from the honeycomb-like organ on the monster’s underbelly.

These creatures were varied; there were Giant Millipedes he recognized, Droplet Scatters, and even Lin Sheng’s ”distant relatives,” the Salamander-like Creatures.

Though of different species, the creatures ”swimming” out from the monster’s underbelly shared common traits: they were massive—not as large as the monsters in the fray, but at least larger than the Salamander-like Creatures and Millipedes Lin Sheng had encountered before.

Furthermore, a single crimson eye had eerily sprouted on each of their heads. As these eyes scanned their surroundings, they served as the monster’s eyes.

Once the creatures had fully emerged from the honeycomb, Lin Sheng saw that a strange red blood vessel connected the end of each creature to the monster.

Controlling those creatures, the monster began a one-sided slaughter of the beings in the area.

Watching the one-sided massacre, Lin Sheng suddenly felt that something was unusual about this monster’s situation.

Its behavior seemed... very urgent?
