9: Chapter 9 The Switch for Out-of-Body ExperienceSeeing the new talent called ”Acidic Exoskeleton” on the data panel, Lin Sheng wore an expression that said, ”As expected.”

The system had mentioned before that this Evolution was carried out by extracting high-quality genetic talents from the consumed organisms.

Among the fish he had devoured, the only talent that could be considered high-quality was the ability to survive in acid.

Therefore, it was only natural for him to obtain the ”Acidic Exoskeleton.”

After gaining the ability to enter the acidic lake, Lin Sheng could say that for the time being, he was no longer short of food.

With so many fish in the lake, even if he hunted non-stop, it would take him a very long time to finish them all.

Lin Sheng still had one Targeted Body Part Evolution worth 5,000 evolution points left, and he was wondering where it would be most appropriate to use this opportunity.

After considering every part of his body, Lin Sheng felt that the most useful yet currently most useless parts were his three pairs of transparent wings.

On a Dragonfly, these three pairs of wings could play a massive role, even allowing them to evade the pursuit of that giant monster.

Even if that monster was only toying with those Dragonflies.

It was undeniable that the Dragonfly’s flight speed that day was indeed very fast.

It was at least more than a little bit faster than Lin Sheng’s current floating speed.

But for Lin Sheng, having these three pairs of wings on his body only allowed him to float; wanting to fly as fast as a Dragonfly was nothing more than a pipe dream.

This wasn’t to say Lin Sheng was incapable.

What was incapable were these three pairs of wings, not Lin Sheng.

If these three pairs of wings were placed on any Dragonfly, they would increase that Dragonfly’s speed.

But the problem was, Lin Sheng was not a Dragonfly.

He was a giant creature three and a half meters long.

With his body size, using these kinds of wings was really making things difficult for him.

”System, use the Targeted Body Part Evolution to evolve my wings.”

[Ding]

[This Evolution will last for one-tenth of a stellar day on this planet. Please wait patiently, Host]

The Evolution time was very short this time, and Lin Sheng did not fall into a deep sleep as soon as the Evolution began like before.

This time, he focused his attention, intending to see if he could observe the changes in his body during the Evolution.

”Hmm?”

”What’s going on?”

Suddenly, Lin Sheng felt something wasn’t right.

He seemed to ”see” his own body.

This feeling was just like an out-of-body experience.

Wait, out-of-body experience?

Lin Sheng suddenly snapped to his senses.

It wasn’t just ”like” it; he seemed to be in an out-of-body state right now.

Lin Sheng tried shifting his perspective a few times and found that he was currently observing his body from a god-like view.

This novel sensation made Lin Sheng unable to resist researching it for a while longer.

He discovered that the distance he could move was centered around his body, and he could not stray too far from it.

If he moved too far away, he would lose his connection to the body.

Although Lin Sheng didn’t feel any discomfort during this time, the feeling of losing his body also made him feel uneasy.

He didn’t want to suddenly find that his consciousness was gone after the body finished evolving.

”System, are you there, System?”

”Why was it that during previous Evolutions, I could sleep for several days at a time?”

”But now, not only do I not need any sleep, but this kind of thing is also happening.”

”Can you tell me what’s going on with me?”

Encountering such a new phenomenon, Lin Sheng wanted to ask the system.

[Ding]

[The reason the Host fell into a sleep previously was entirely due to the Host’s subjective will]

[As for the current situation, because the Host possesses the Truth Level talent ’Immortal Consciousness,’ the Host’s consciousness is not restricted by the body. This is a normal phenomenon]

After hearing the system’s explanation, Lin Sheng understood.

When he evolved before, the reason he would sleep for a day or two was entirely because he subjectively believed he should sleep that long.

And the current situation occurred because he subjectively wanted to observe his body.

Knowing this, Lin Sheng focused his attention on his wings.

At this moment, the three pairs of wings had changed from their original transparent membrane into a texture similar to colored glass.

After fully turning into ”glass,” the wings began to stretch out to both sides.

Under the stretching, the originally oval-shaped wings turned into three pairs of Glass Bat Wings.

Next, countless crystal-like scales began to spread from the base of the bat wings upwards, until they covered the entire wing, at which point the spreading of the scales stopped.

As the scales grew over the entire wing, Lin Sheng knew his Evolution was about to end.

Before the Evolution was complete, Lin Sheng planned to take this opportunity to see the bottom of that acidic lake.

His consciousness drifted quickly, reaching the lake bottom in just a few breaths.

The condition of the lake bottom was somewhat different from the upper layers.

The water here presented a thick, gel-like state, which Lin Sheng felt was caused by the acid being too concentrated.

Lin Sheng scanned the surroundings and found that there were almost no signs of living creatures here.

There were only a few stalks of slightly fluorescent coral, occasionally releasing small bubbles in this thick acid.

”What’s that?”

At this moment, Lin Sheng’s gaze was suddenly drawn to two large pits.

These two large pits were about ten meters in diameter, and their surroundings were deathly silent; even coral was absent.

Through observation, Lin Sheng discovered that of these two large pits, one was sucking water in, and the other was draining water out.

Compared to the draining pit, the water flow in the sucking pit was slightly clearer.

”Could this be how this acidic lake was created?”

Lin Sheng felt as though he had found the cause of this acidic lake’s formation.

Actually, it was already quite obvious.

Two pits, one absorbing fresh water and one spitting out concentrated acid; this would explain why this acidic lake hadn’t been diluted despite the high rainfall in the rainforest.

[Ding]

[Host’s Evolution complete]

At this moment, Lin Sheng, who was watching by the side of the pits, suddenly heard the system’s prompt.

In order not to let his body be carried off by some unknown thing, Lin Sheng’s consciousness did not linger at the lake bottom any longer.

The moment his consciousness returned to his body was very strange, because Lin Sheng found that his vision had changed all at once.

It went directly from that previous state of seeing with thought to seeing with physical eyes.

Furthermore, Lin Sheng also discovered that even though he had the ”Clear Sight” talent, seeing things with his body was actually not as clear as seeing them with his consciousness.

Trying to leave his body with his consciousness again, Lin Sheng found that he switched from physical eyes back to seeing with thought.

However, after his consciousness left his body, Lin Sheng also found that he could no longer control his body.

This state was just like an ”Out-of-Body” mod for a certain game he played in his previous life.

As soon as out-of-body was turned on, he could no longer control the body.

What was this all about?

Had he discovered the switch for out-of-body experience?
