Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1612: Chapter 68: Behave Yourself

Sarrens Manor, located in the Hydefield South Suburb.

This is a typical American manor from the early 20th century of Ancient Earth. White-painted wooden fences surround the manor, which covers nearly two square kilometers. Several small hills with lush greenery, with wooden stables, hay barns, and tool sheds built on them.

The southern part of the manor is planted with crops like grapes and wheat, while the east and west sides are planted with common flowers and trees.

The north side has pastures and horse fields, where dairy cows, sheep, elk, and several camels are grazed. In the horse fields, dozens of English thoroughbreds, Andalusian horses, and Friesian horses are raised.

At the center of the manor is a small brown building with a white roof.

The building is three stories high and shaped like a T; the first floor is a dining room and living room, the second floor is guest rooms, and the third floor is the master’s room. The structure is built with stone, simple and sturdy. Outside is a wooden platform, with flower fences surrounding it, filled with various flowers.

When Fatty stepped into the manor, he saw the wooden attic window with the white roof and the chimney next to the window. He instantly fell in love with this place.

Wearing a cowboy outfit, riding a horse, on a moonlit night, moving a ladder and climbing into the attic window, flirting in a cozy, fireplace-warmed room with a demure on the outside but passionate on the inside young lady, and then wrestling on a bed so soft it sinks when you lie on it!

For the leader of the Caihua Sect, who has been committed to various ways of picking flowers, this is life!

Of course, how awkward a cowboy outfit looks on a fatty, how pitiful the burdened horse is, how clumsily a fatty climbs a ladder, and how the big bed needs reinforcement to bear the weight—these scenes are all outside Master Fatty’s imagination.

Twenty-one Devil Mechas, led by the pilot’s vehicle escorting the assistant officer, traversed through the manor’s muddy paths, across lush green hills, towards the central building.

Human history seems to have regressed thousands of years in an instant, from the prosperous Hydefield to Sarrens.

Those flying cars weaving back and forth on the winding highways, those navigation lights and passenger ships filling the sky, those towering space cities and those vibrant public television and advertising screens, they all vanished in an instant, leaving only a pastoral scene in view.

Wanting to own a manor close to two square kilometers in the Hydefield South Suburb is not something money alone can achieve. Only an enduring family like the Hastings family could accumulate such an estate in this city where land is worth its weight in gold and preserve its primitive appearance, refusing the advances of human technology.

When the twenty-one devilish mechas swept into the manor like a whirlwind, Margaret was already waiting on the platform in front of the little building’s entrance. Fatty and others passed through a small grove by the manor’s pond, turning past an ancient tree like a giant umbrella, and saw her in an instant.

The girl wasn’t wearing a uniform; she was dressed in a white shirt and light yellow tight-fitting riding pants, her feet in knee-high boots. Perhaps she had just ridden a horse, as a thin layer of sweat was visible on her forehead. Her face was flushed, looking healthy and vibrant.

As the twenty-one mechas arrived, people in work clothes, laboring around the farm, gathered one by one to the building front.

These people, old and young, though still holding farming tools like pitchforks, pruning shears, and hoes, some with mud spots on their bodies and grass scraps on their faces and hair, their temperament was definitely not that of ordinary farmers.

Everyone around Hastings knows that to be a farmer at his most beloved Sarrens Manor, one must be part of the core Hastings family members!

When the mechas moved into the space in front of the building and squatted down, removing their combat form, Margaret’s mouth curved into a sunny smile, and she quickly walked down the stairs to greet them.

The girl’s joy was without concealment and pretense.

This is her home, and leading the convoy of Mechanical Gods with twelfth-generation mecha that made family members’ eyes widen was the man she entrusted her life to. She and Fatty had acquired the tacit acknowledgment from Hastings; their relationship was no secret within the family.

However, their first meeting with family members seemed to have a little mishap.

When Fatty popped out from Logic, his silly demeanor made several people present twist their mouths, and immediately when he helped a stunning beauty down from the mecha cockpit and kissed Margaret, the smile on even the most enthusiastic one’s face froze.

Everyone focused on Fatty and Ann Lei’s tightly held hands and then peeking into Logic’s narrow cockpit.

Clearly, if they weren’t in a very intimate relationship, a man and woman couldn’t be squeezed together in such a narrow cockpit, cheek to cheek, intertwined.

The women exchanged puzzled glances filled with unconcealed surprise, several middle-aged men furrowed their eyebrows, and a handsome, elegant ”flower gardener” couldn’t help but let out a cold snort.

Meanwhile, the expressions of several youths varied.

A fourteen or fifteen-year-old boy and a twenty-seven or eight-year-old man glared at Fatty with resentment; two male youths around twenty-two or twenty-three had composed smiles; two girls curled their lips in a mocking manner, occasionally glancing at Margaret, whispering with a schadenfreude flavor.

Fatty and Ann Lei almost simultaneously sensed something amiss.

Ann Lei awkwardly released Fatty’s hand, jumped down, looped her arms around Margaret, using warm exchanges to cover her embarrassment. Fatty warily glared at the people eyeing him intently.

Is there a killing intent, what do these servants want?! Haven’t they seen a master with three or four wives before?!

”Dad, he is Tian Xingjian.” Margaret bit her lip lightly, discreetly casting a glance at Fatty, then introduced him to the cold-snorting ”flower gardener.”

”Dad?!” Fatty’s heart jumped.

”Hello!” While Margaret’s father was angry, he maintained politeness.

However, his face was as dark as could be. He tossed a word briefly, turned his head away, refusing to look at Fatty’s suddenly ingratiating expression.

”This old man, not broad-minded at all,” Fatty thought mischievously with a silly grin. With the previous encounter with ”Dad,” he perked up, piled a smile on his face, and followed Margaret calling out along the way.

”Uncle Morrison.”

”Aunt Nancy.”

”Uncle Nickel.”

”Cousin Carey.”

”Cousin Adolf.”

Watching Fatty nodding and bowing along the way, several young people nearby started talking.

”Is he the Leray Hero?” a tall, skinny girl said, ”He doesn’t seem like much, looks like a wagging dog.”

”You’d better not offend him,” another pretty and proud girl said with a smirk, ”He might be the future Family Head, the Clan Leader’s chosen Prince Consort, we can’t afford to offend him.”

”Look, Carey and Adolf are almost dying of anger,” the tall girl let out a hen-like giggle and defiantly told the proud girl despite her mother’s glare, ”Their goddess is going to marry such a Fatty, it’s really black humor.”

”You two, don’t talk about him like that,” a pretty girl with a few freckles on her face said discontentedly.

”What’s it to you how we talk?” the tall girl sneered, ”Dear Carli, you’re only fifteen this year and can’t compare to that lover of General Tian over there. Look how sexy and beautiful she is, even if you wanted to squeeze in, you’d have to wait a few years and ask for Margaret’s opinion, right?”

”She’d agree,” the proud girl glanced at Carli lightly and replied.

”You!” Young Carli flushed with anger, tears brimming in her eyes.

Meanwhile, Margaret, Fatty, and Ann Lei had walked over, and Margaret pointed to the proud girl and said, ”This is Charlotte, and beside her is Emily.”

”Hello,” Fatty greeted stiffly with a forced smile.

The two girls squeezed out smiles and nodded slightly, then blatantly directed their mocking gaze at Ann Lei.

”Carli, what’s wrong?” Margaret noticed the little girl’s aggrieved expression and held her hand, asking.

”Nothing,” Carli bit her lip and turned her head away.

”Come, let me introduce you...” Margaret seemed to realize something, casting a cold glance at Charlotte and Emily, then affectionately hugged Carli and softly said, ”Didn’t you always want to meet him?”

”Not anymore!” Carli glared at Fatty, suddenly twisted her body, and ran away quickly.

Fatty was utterly confused, with no idea what he had done to offend this unfamiliar little girl.

He thought to himself, ”I must find a chance to make it up to her, maybe take her to see the goldfish!”

After introducing the members of the Hastings family, Margaret led Fatty toward several men standing on the left side of the crowd.

”This is Uncle Ernest... This is Uncle Gould... This is Gray... This is...” Margaret introduced each one to Fatty.

Compared to the Hastings family members, these gentlemen seemed more approachable.

As they shook hands with Fatty, they were enthusiastic and firm, openly expressing their joy and admiration, with almost everyone able to recite Fatty’s achievements. The plump young man Gray even directly expressed his admiration for Fatty’s Mecha and his subordinates.

While Fatty was exchanging pleasantries with these men, several family members’ faces turned extraordinarily grim. Charlotte and Emily, especially, followed behind the young man named Adolf, constantly smirking.

”Maggie, lunch is ready,” a gentle woman appeared at the small building’s entrance, pushing Hastings, and smiled.

”Coming,” Margaret said, cheerfully pulling Ann Lei along.

As everyone walked toward the dining room, a fifteen or sixteen-year-old boy named Carey walked up to Fatty and suddenly pointed at Ann Lei’s back, asking, ”General Tian, is that your lover?”

Fatty was taken aback, then saw the mocking expressions on the faces of Charlotte, Emily, and Adolf walking beside him.

Beside them, Morrison and Nickel, the two distant uncles Margaret had just introduced, acted as if they hadn’t heard anything.

Fatty looked over Carey’s head, who was being used as a pawn, and provocatively said to the others, ”She’s one of the people I love, just like Margaret.”

Although most people had already followed Hastings and Margaret into the dining room, Fatty’s words still prompted an exaggerated uproar.

”How shameless!” Charlotte exclaimed angrily.

”We must tell the Clan Leader!” Emily declared righteously.

Morrison and Nickel exchanged a look, smirking and enjoying the show from the side. Meanwhile, Adolf stood forward, mocking, ”General Tian, please mind your status. This is the Hastings family, not your Leray Federation.”

”I know!” Fatty, already irritable due to Bernadotte, dropped his fake smile and shamelessly declared, ”Once Margaret marries me, I’ll be in charge here.”

With that, Fatty boldly poked Adolf’s chest as everyone watched in stunned silence and said with a grin, ”Behave, or I’ll beat you up!”
