Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1610: Chapter 66: Hospital

Fatty, accompanied by the assistant officer, walked alone through the long designated passage and entered the port hall.

From the dock to the hall, the way was lined with Feiyang soldiers responsible for security.

The soldiers stood armed, upright, and didn’t spare a glance. Officers stood in small groups, patrolled back and forth, or quickly transmitted orders through their multifunctional communication headsets.

As Fatty walked past, apart from the two soldiers at the passage entrance who saluted, the others stood silently, with grim expressions and indifferent gazes.

As members of countless soldiers of the Feiyang, these guards trained intensely every day and executed dangerous tasks. The only way to cope with such a life was not to pay too much attention.

To them, a passing fatty and a pig made no difference. Most eyes were level ahead, not even glancing at Fatty’s face.

In Feiyang, where generals were as common as cattle, who would be interested in a fatty Vice Admiral?

Soldiers of such physique were usually staff officers. If sent to the frontline, they might not survive twenty-four hours.

Fatty passed through the passage and entered the port hall.

The port hall was magnificent, over two kilometers long and six hundred meters wide, with a hundred waiting halls and fifty shuttle platforms. Sunlight, filtered through the six-hundred-meter span ceiling, cast a warm, dreamlike hue over the vast space.

The fifty-meter-high upper layer had numerous crisscrossed transparent corridor pipelines, with fountain-like advertising screens suspended in mid-air. Air stewardesses in aviation uniforms, military recruiters, and celebrity endorsers with products, one virtual image after another, smiled cheerfully.

Fatty reached the end of the designated passage, lit a cigarette at the exit. As the cigarette burned halfway, urgent mecha steps echoed from the passage.

Twenty-one black Devil Mechas sprinted along the spacious passage under the shocked gaze of Feiyang guard soldiers stationed every three steps or every five steps. Leading the way was Ann Lei piloting the ”Logic.” Behind her in a standard guard formation were the twenty mecha gods led by Hagrove.

The menacing devilish appearance of the mechas, their light steps, and their swallow-like flight made it hard to believe these were forty-ton mechas and not twenty-one sudden apparitions.

Even with iron discipline, an invisible unrest rippled among the guard soldiers. Though they neither spoke nor screamed, maintaining composure and even their posture unchanged, their eyes revealed all.

Several officers whispering turned quickly, staring in horror at the passing mechas. One officer’s gaze went beyond the mechas, landing on Fatty’s face. He seemed to recall something, his mouth gaping wide enough to fit a large duck egg!

They could overlook the fatty who blended into the cosmic billions, but how could they ignore the Devil Mechas they’ve seen countless times on TV?

The images of the bandit army massacring the Judger still played in their minds, and now, the near-legendary Fei Alliance Twelfth Generation Mechas and their warrior pilots appeared vividly within ten meters, rushing past like a gust of wind.

Just like waking up early on a sunny morning and seeing twenty-one gods driving golden chariots, holding dazzling golden tridents, urging fire-treading heavenly pegasus amidst surging red clouds pass by.

This feeling cannot merely be expressed as shock!

Fatty took a deep drag on his cigarette, the tip brightened sharply, shortening quickly. The reflection of the passage above the hall flickered in the smooth metal beside the trash can, the fiery red cigarette tip shimmering in the mirror image.

Fatty discarded the cigarette tip and looked up.

Within the transparent tubular passage, Margaret’s calm figure pushing a wheelchair was clearly visible. Hastings sat in the moving wheelchair, looking ahead while conversing quietly with Gambier.

Beside them, numerous gazes like stage lights converged on the twenty-one black Devil Mechas.

Everyone’s gaze carried such complexity.

Fatty grinned slyly, turned towards a large shuttle waiting at the Number Three platform. A Feiyang officer, snapping out of a daze, looked admirably at the swift mechas while eagerly ordering soldiers to open the cargo bay doors.

Fatty walked into the passenger cabin without looking back, leaving the illustrious figures’ gazes shut out by the shuttle’s silver streamlined shell.

This was far from an intimidating display.

This was merely a declaration. Coming with the bandit army, twenty-one rampant vehicles was enough to stir a raging storm in this nation.

You will understand how to act on things without evidence!

Only those who’ve experienced four years of national war and fought through will know what kind of madmen remain in the Leray Federation now.

No one should provoke the Leray people, let alone Admiral Bernadotte, whom these daredevils respect the most!

If you took what’s mine, give it back, if you ate what’s mine, spit it out.

If you bothered me, clean yourself and wait!

The shuttle landed at Hydefield West Suburb Airport.

Fatty declined the assistant officer’s kindness, leaving the dozens of luxury flying cars waiting on the tarmac and their drivers in place.

Only thirty guard mechas and a lead vehicle were allowed to guide the bandit army to Hydefield Army First Hospital where Bernadotte was.

As the saying goes, once bitten by a snake, fear the rope for three years.

Since the attack in Hanjing, Fatty had become particularly cautious regarding security.

That day, he lay on the hospital bed at Hanjing Hospital, seriously and conflictedly weighing the importance between one’s life safety and being raped by a beauty like Margaret. In the end, he realized that rape could happen at any time; if the big head was gone, the little head would be meaningless.

After Francis died, Feiyang descended into chaos. In such a life-or-death struggle, it’s inevitable that someone would take desperate measures at critical junctures. In this country, those wanting to swallow the bandit army whole were numerous. Sometimes, to solve a clumsy Fatty, only one bullet is needed.

Fatty didn’t want to entrust his personal safety to others.

The Mecha sped along the highway at Hydefield.

This was Fatty’s first time in the Feiyang Capital. The city’s size exceeded even his imagination.

From the West Suburb Airport to the hospital in the city center, he raced at speeds over 150 kilometers per hour, taking almost two hours. Along the way, countless private Mechas and flying cars sped along roads that intertwined like ribbons, dense and unending.

The towering Space City, like ancient trees in a jungle, blocked out the sun. The industrial zones on the city’s outskirts stretched as far as the eye could see. Heavy trucks and trains, laden with industrial raw materials and goods, gathered here and then dispersed in all directions.

This was the heart of Feiyang, its pulse still strong and vigorous.

Under the tough armor defense of the Feiyang Republic giant, this war sweeping humanity has not yet reached the point where this city would panic or worry.

The people living here have ample reasons to maintain their indifference and arrogance until the gates of Feiyang are blown open, until this giant falls with a crash!

”Ann Lei, do you think the old man will be in danger?” Fatty asked worriedly, staring wide-eyed at the city outside the Mecha cabin.

”No!” Ann Lei’s voice was gentle yet firm.

She didn’t say why, and Fatty didn’t ask. The tacit understanding of childhood friends needs only a bit of support and confidence without reason.

The Mechanical Team, under the amazed stares of countless people, arrived at the Army First Hospital. With the documents of accompanying assistant officers, they passed through unobstructed.

When looking at Bernadotte lying in the intensive care unit for the first time, the whole world suddenly fell silent.

The bandit soldiers turned their heads in reluctance, Ann Lei covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes.

Fatty slowly approached the glass window of the intensive care unit, pressing his face against the cold glass. He felt his heart aching like it was soaked in sulfuric acid.

The pain went deep into his bones!

The person lying there was named Bernadotte, Federation Admiral.

He once led the Federation Army, advancing wave after wave in Miloke, fighting to the death.

He once stood in a frontline command post, where soil crumbled away, raising his long-range viewer to observe the enemy that was already close at hand.

He once stood quietly beside President Hamilton, supporting the decision to declare war on the Western Alliance with the strongest posture.

He once painfully awarded himself medals, then eagerly sent himself to the front lines, arguing with Boswell, just to prevent his fake hero status from being exposed.

He was not a great general; he had flaws that many others also had. Yet, he was a spiritual pillar for all the Leray people. Alongside Hamilton, Mihailovich, Brown, Snyder, and all the Leray elites, he led Leray in a struggle for self-redemption.

Hamilton died, Brown died, Snyder died, Mihailovich endured humiliation in the capital.

And now, even Bernadotte....

Fatty bit his teeth hard, unable to stop tears from flowing.

The person lying in the ward, where was the slightly plump man who always smiled at him with loving eyes, patted his shoulder, telling him he was proud of him? Who lay there now was a monster burned black all over, covered with blood-drenched wounds and blisters!

Various tubes pierced his body, surrounded by all sorts of instruments. He groaned and twisted with difficulty, his completely deformed face showing unbearable pain.

Fatty, like a young beast watching injured parents, pressed his face hard against the glass, tears flooding.

Perhaps sensing something, Bernadotte on the bed slowly and laboriously turned his head, looking through eyes swollen to mere slits at the glass window of the observation room.

His painful movements made everyone’s hearts tremble.

This dark figure quietly gazed at Fatty, suddenly stopping his painful moaning and writhing, as if carefully recognizing. After a while, that deformed face showed a smile.

Despite his face being swollen and ragged beyond recognizing expressions, everyone outside the window understood, he was smiling! He was smiling!

He smiled at Fatty!

Fatty let out a wailing cry, bursting into tears!
