Checking in for 100,000 Years

Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Black Dragon in the Earth’s Depth, 7 Small Arrows

”It’s actually a dragon!” Big Black Cat’s eyes widened when he saw the enormous black dragon. His breath grew rapid, and a surge of excitement rushed through his body.

”What’s so amazing about a dragon? You see them every day, aren’t you tired of looking yet?” Big Black Horse snorted dismissively, baring a row of large white teeth, and flicked Big Black Cat on the forehead.

Big Black Cat blinked rapidly. Uncle Ma, what does he mean by that? What does he mean, ’see them every day’? Could it be...

As this thought occurred to him, Big Black Cat turned to Uncle Ma and asked in a trembling voice, ”Uncle Ma, could it be that you’re not a horse, but a dragon?”

”Let’s not talk about that. I’ll leave a little mystery for you!” Big Black Horse chuckled, appearing unconcerned as he descended from mid-air.

Big Black Cat scratched at his ears in frustration; not getting the answer he wanted made him feel extremely uncomfortable. However, since Uncle Ma hadn’t said anything, he couldn’t very well force him to speak; after all, he didn’t have the strength to do so, did he?

Big Black Cat also quickly descended from mid-air.

The two of them examined this black dragon.

”Uncle Ma, this black dragon seems to have been dead for a very long time,” Big Black Cat concluded after observing for a moment.

Big Black Horse nodded in agreement but remained silent. Indeed, the black dragon before them had been dead for many years.

But why was there a large formation, and within that formation, a black dragon, beneath the mountain range of the Dragon God Sect? What exactly is their intention?

Big Black Horse’s gaze continuously scanned the black dragon’s body. Suddenly, his eyes flickered; he discovered a small black arrow embedded above the black dragon’s head.

Could it be this small arrow... that killed the black dragon? Big Black Horse mulled this over.

With his hands clasped behind his back, he began to walk slowly around the black dragon. Although he walked very slowly, each step spanned several hundred zhang. This was also a type of distance-shortening divine skill.

Big Black Cat didn’t know this divine skill, so he could only fly quickly, following close behind Big Black Horse.

After circling once, Big Black Horse was surprised to discover that there were actually seven small black arrows embedded in this black dragon’s body. It seemed these seven small arrows were the true culprits behind the black dragon’s death.

Big Black Cat, following beside Uncle Ma, also discovered these seven little swords. He tsked and said, ”Uncle Ma, this black dragon met a miserable end! After being killed, these seven small arrows weren’t even pulled out.”

”Things are probably not that simple...” Big Black Horse’s expression was grim. He once again rose into the air, looking down from above.

Only then did he notice that the black dragon’s body was contorted, and the positions of the seven small arrows seemed to follow the curve of its body, forming the shape of the Big Dipper.

Is this a formation? Big Black Horse muttered to himself. He now suspected that these seven small arrows had been inserted only after the black dragon had died.

Big Black Cat, standing beside him, was also shocked when he heard Uncle Ma’s words. Indeed, just as Uncle Ma said, these seven small arrows actually formed a Seven Stars formation.

”Uncle Ma, this place is too bizarre! Should we pull out those seven small arrows?” Big Black Cat asked, his eyes shining brightly.

”Let’s not rush. We’ll observe after dark and then decide!” Big Black Horse said, shaking his head. He had a guess, but he still needed time to verify it.

Big Black Cat quickly nodded, and so the two of them sat cross-legged in the void, waiting quietly.

The day passed quickly.

When night fell, a black qi suddenly emanated from the dead black dragon’s body. It drifted through the large formation and floated up towards the Dragon God Sect above.

It really is like this... A solemn expression appeared on Big Black Horse’s face. Although he still couldn’t quite understand it, he knew this matter was no small thing. It seemed he would have to go back and report to the Master.

Big Black Cat looked around at this moment but couldn’t see that wisp of black qi.

”Uncle Ma, did you see that thing?” he asked hurriedly.

”I saw it. Its source is this black dragon...” Big Black Horse nodded with a grave expression, grabbed Big Black Cat, and swiftly flew upwards.

To his surprise, the opening in the large formation had already automatically repaired itself.

Big Black Horse had no choice but to take out that golden Little Sword again, pierce an opening, and then fly out.

After flying out from underground, Big Black Horse didn’t pause. In a single breath, he was back beside the carriage.

He gently sensed his surroundings and found that the Master still showed no signs of activity. Not daring to disturb him, he sat on the ground to wait.

When Big Black Cat saw the carriage, he also transformed, reverting to his cat form. He then landed on the carriage and began to cultivate.

「Seven days later.」

A very faint ripple emanated from within the carriage.

Ye Yun opened his eyes, a slight smile on his face. He had broken through to the Second Layer of God Monarch Stage.

Seeing that the cat and the horse had both returned, Ye Yun smiled, lifted the carriage curtain, and stepped out.

”Master!” Big Black Horse quickly stood up and bowed respectfully. He was still in his human form and hadn’t changed back into a black horse.

”How did the investigation go?” Ye Yun asked with a relaxed smile.

”Master, that place is very strange...” Big Black Horse promptly recounted everything he had investigated in full detail. Then, he took out the few cultivation technique manuals and the scroll.

Ye Yun’s expression changed slightly. He hadn’t expected that the Dragon God Sect in the Heavenly Star Dynasty would have such a significant connection to him. Could it be that this really is a branch established by disciples of the Dragon God Sect from a later generation?

Ye Yun opened the few cultivation technique manuals. After a few glances, he understood everything. These cultivation technique manuals were all very crude. Only the three cultivation techniques from the Third Layer of the Scripture Palace were somewhat acceptable to his discerning eye. If one were to cultivate according to these three cultivation techniques, they would indeed be much stronger than ordinary cultivators. However, compared to the three great Ultimate Techniques of the orthodox Dragon God Sect, they were still far too lacking.

This situation was understandable to Ye Yun. After all, a hundred thousand years had passed. The inheritance Luo Li and the others had obtained wasn’t entirely complete, so how could this branch of the Dragon God Sect be any different?

However, Ye Yun also found the black dragon beneath the Dragon God Sect’s mountain range, which Big Black Horse had described, somewhat strange.

”Little Cat, you wait here for now...” Ye Yun instructed. Then, taking Big Black Horse, he tore open the void and descended directly upon the Dragon God Sect.

Ye Yun’s first stop was, naturally, the ancestral shrine.

Big Black Horse employed his old trick again. He first used the Sky Exterminating Phantom Eye to render the old man guarding the ancestral shrine unconscious. Then, he landed on the ground and opened the main doors of the ancestral shrine.

Ye Yun smiled faintly. Big Black Horse’s aptitude is good; he’s using this Sky Exterminating Phantom Eye quite proficiently.

With his hands clasped behind his back, Ye Yun strode inside. What immediately met his eyes were the rows upon rows of Ancestral Spirit Plaques on the offering table.

Ye Yun’s gaze narrowed slightly. He did indeed see some familiar names.
