Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 523, Whose Prize Son-in-Law Will He Be?

Translator: Silavin

This gave Lu Fan a feeling that these two ‘gentlemen’ wanted to encourage a deeper relationship between himself and their Daughters.

Since Qin Shanhai and Tao Shan were both experts in the field of relationships, having navigated society for many years, they naturally could tell this tactic was not enough to work on Lu Fan.

They also had a delightful conversation with Han Ke, since Han Ke, strictly speaking, was considered Lu Fan’s ‘guardian’.

Whoever Lu Fan ended up with in the future, once Han Ke spoke up, they would likely have already secured half the battle.

Faced with such an offensive from the two men, Han Ke was somewhat unable to deal with it. Meanwhile, Qin Qiu and Tao Xiaoman also sensed something was amiss and repeatedly gave meaningful glances to their Fathers, obviously telling them not to steer the conversation in strange directions.

However, Tao Shan and Qin Shanhai were obviously very fond of Lu Fan. Too fond. They were just short of asking Lu Fan to pick one of the two girls and set the wedding date.

Lu Fan’s face was full of embarrassment, but since they had not explicitly stated anything, he could not openly refuse either, so he could only try to avoid the topic.

In the end, the meal was truly nerve-wracking for Lu Fan.

Finally, the dinner concluded, and Qin Shanhai thoughtfully arranged for his servants to drive Lu Fan, Han Ke, and Jian Ying back to the villa in a private car.

The two girls, Qin Qiu and Tao Xiaoman, returned home with their Mothers.

Qin Shanhai and Tao Shan watched from the restaurant entrance as Lu Fan and the others’ car drove away. Both men simultaneously stroked their chins, their faces full of confidence.

Tao Shan spoke first. “Oi, Old Qin, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Lu Fan and our Tao Zi are truly quite compatible. Tao Zi is naturally lively, while Lu Fan is steady. He is perfect for taking care of my Tao Zi. If they could happily join in marriage in the future, their life together should be quite harmonious and full of joy.”

Qin Shanhai, who had been inwardly delighted, immediately dropped his expression upon hearing Tao Shan’s words. He disagreed. “Old Tao, this is something I can’t agree with. My Qin Qiu is gentle and graceful, beautiful and wise—clearly destined to be a virtuous Wife and loving Mother in the future. I think a mature and steady young man like Lu Fan would hardly prefer someone so lively. A girl like My Qin Qiu, who can take care of the Family, is the type he would fancy most. Besides, you must have noticed that when Lu Fan speaks to my Qin Qiu, his voice is gentler? To say he has no feelings for my Daughter, would mean this old man had no eyes.”

Tao Shan was equally unconvinced. “By your logic, when Lu Fan speaks with my Tao Zi, joking and laughing together, they would look like a happy bickering couple. Doesn’t that also suggest he treats Tao Zi differently from other girls? In the end, I believe he favours my Daughter more.”

Qin Shanhai’s face completely soured. Gone was his previously refined and steady demeanour in front of others. The veins on his forehead slightly protruded as he said, displeased, “Old Tao, what’s wrong with you today? Are you deliberately contradicting me?”

“Aren’t you doing the same!?” Tao Shan was not to be outdone, straightening his neck and saying, “Whose Daughter he favours more, who might become whose Son-in-Law, is still uncertain. Yet here you are, already smugly celebrating. If he ends up with Tao Zi in the future and they get married, I’ll definitely send you an invitation. When you come, just don’t wear a long face, okay? It would be inauspicious!”

“You…!” Qin Shanhai was furious, pointing at Tao Shan’s nose and sneering, “Well said! Remember your words now! When Xiao Qiu and Lu Fan get married, no matter how miserably you cry, you’d better have our gifts ready for the Qin Family!”

“Ha!” Tao Shan snorted dismissively.

The two middle-aged men, whose combined ages exceeded a hundred, bickered like this. If their Wives were present, they would surely hold their heads in exasperated amusement.

These two men were influential figures in Jianghai City, but they were also old friends who had known each other for well over twenty years. They were familiar enough that their mutual bickering and confrontation had become the norm.

Moreover, they were now contending over Lu Fan as their own Son-in-Law!

Of course, although they both claimed Lu Fan seemed more inclined toward their own Daughter, both men could see that Lu Fan’s attitude toward Qin Qiu and Tao Xiaoman seemed fine, but had not reached the level of lovers.

At most, they were in an ambiguous stage.

It was hard to say who would gain the advantage first and win Lu Fan over.

At the same time, both men also noticed that not only Qin Qiu and Tao Xiaoman, but also the other girl dining with them, Jian Ying, often stole glances at Lu Fan during the meal before lowering her head.

Such girlish behaviour might not be apparent to these young people, but these middle-aged old foxes could clearly see that Jian Ying also had feelings for Lu Fan!

Jian Ying’s beauty was not inferior to Qin Qiu or Tao Xiaoman in the slightest. She also possessed a unique temperament and was herself a formidable expert.

If she also had ambiguous feelings for Lu Fan, then Qin Qiu and Tao Xiaoman would have another competitor.

Therefore, although Qin Shanhai and Tao Shan were fiercely arguing, it was merely to provoke each other.

In reality, both men knew that to secure Lu Fan as their Son-in-Law for their own Family, it would require a ton of effort.

The next day, news of Lu Fan’s return to Jianghai City spread quickly. Many people gathered in front of Lu Fan’s villa, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Dragon Country hero.

Qin Shanhai was very foresighted and directly dispatched the city guards to clear the area around Lu Fan’s villa, preventing them from disturbing Lu Fan and the others.

However, there were some people the guards could not stop—namely, the Principal of the Third Academy, Bai Hengjian, and Lu Fan’s former form teacher, Li Qun.

Early the next morning, the two came to the villa looking for Lu Fan.

One was the Principal of Lu Fan’s alma mater, and one was Lu Fan’s form teacher; naturally, they could not be prevented entry like other anonymous people.

They had treated Lu Fan well before, so Lu Fan warmly received them.

The two quickly revealed their purpose, which was to invite Lu Fan back to the Third Academy to give a speech. After all, since the Third Academy had produced a hero like Lu Fan, the school naturally wanted to show off a little.

Lu Fan had anticipated this situation and did not refuse the Principal’s invitation.

However, his requirement was simple, that it would not take up too much of his time.

Although he was on holiday now, he needed to reach Level 60 within two months for his Third Profession Change. He really did not want to spend too much time on other matters if possible.

When they heard that Lu Fan was currently striving to reach Level 60 for his Third Profession Change, Bai Hengjian and Li Qun both froze, their faces filled with disbelief.
