When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 349: Chapter 130: The Green Tea Female Supporting Character in a Period Novel (17)

After she finished simmering the mung bean soup, Chi Yun’er moved the pot outside the window to cool. She then freshened up, slung her bag over her shoulder, locked the door, and headed for the warehouse.

The warehouse wasn’t far. It was another row of red brick buildings, only these were much larger, and their height dwarfed that of the ordinary dormitories.

”You must be Chi, right?” A woman with chin-length hair smiled as she approached, taking Chi Yun’er’s hand and looking her up and down. ”You really are the one our Mr. Jiang has his eye on. Just look at how pretty and spirited you are! You’re a rare find not just on this farm, but even in the Capital City!”

Chi Yun’er asked in surprise, ”You’re from the Capital City, too?”

”Of course,” the woman chuckled, leaning in to whisper in her ear. ”My name is Chen Xinyao. Mr. Jiang and I are not only from the same hometown, we were high school classmates.”

”My family is reasonably well-off, and I knew I couldn’t handle too much hardship. Plus, I wasn’t expecting to work myself to the bone to support a family. So, right from the start, I wasn’t swept up by all that youthful fervor and came straight to the warehouse for a practical job.”

”The pay and benefits might not be great, but at least I don’t have to toil in the fields, working myself half to death every day. I don’t have to watch myself go from a blossoming young lady to a weathered old woman...”

”And it turns out I was incredibly farsighted. All those people who were so full of passion back then are now secretly pulling every string they can to get transferred to a logistics post. But where would we find that many openings for them?”

She said this with a proud tilt of her head and a puff of her chest.

Then, she added with a smile, ”But I’m nothing compared to you, Chi.”

”You hadn’t even officially reported for duty, and Jiang was already here paving the way for you. He didn’t just talk to us in the warehouse; he went all the way to the administration building to put in a good word. He was so worried we might give you a hard time!”

”We didn’t notice much else, except that Mr. Jiang’s usual deadpan expression completely transformed. He was grinning from ear to ear.”

”That wasn’t him just saying hello to us. That was him announcing to the whole world that his girl had arrived.”

Chi Yun’er’s mouth fell slightly agape. She was surprised by this as well.

’Was my relationship with Jiang Yihua really that serious?’

’Then again, who knows? The ways of men and women can’t be explained with logic. He already went through so much trouble to help me move, so I guess this isn’t that different.’

’They were both sons of the Jiang Family, and both knew how to be attentive to women, but Jiang Yihua was fundamentally different from Jiang Zishi.’

Flustered by Chen Xinyao’s teasing, Chi Yun’er blushed, pursing her lips into a small smile. ”Brother Hua is just a warm and generous person.”

”Tsk, tsk, not at all,” Chen Xinyao said, shaking her head with a laugh. ”He might seem warm and generous, but when it comes to his personal life, he’s completely unyielding. You can try anything, but nothing works on him.”

”Mr. Jiang is a real catch on this farm, you know. So many women have their eyes on him. There’s a college girl from Imperial University who followed him here from the Capital City, a pampered young lady from Shanghai, a spitfire from the Northeast, and a girl from Sichuan.”

”They’re always finding excuses to go see Mr. Jiang, but he spots them from a mile away and makes himself scarce. Even if he gets cornered, he’ll just give them the cold shoulder and say a few cutting remarks, enough to send any sensitive girl running off in tears.”

”And even for the women who aren’t put off by that act—like that college student from Imperial University, Lin Xiulan—she uses her position as a scorekeeper to hang around Mr. Jiang all day, hoping that love will blossom over time.”

”But Mr. Jiang always makes sure to keep at least a meter’s distance from her. She takes a step forward, he takes a step back. His evasiveness is so painfully obvious—who could put up with that? In the end, she has no choice but to play by his rules...”
