When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 315: Chapter 120: The Green Tea Female Side Character in a Period Novel (7)

Jiang Yihua worked at the farm, which was some distance from Bian Family Village. However, the village party secretary’s daughter had married into a village near the farm, so the secretary and his family frequently traveled back and forth.

Last winter, the village party secretary brought eggs to his daughter for her postpartum confinement.

The winter days were short. He was only delayed for a short while, but by the time he started for home, the sky had not only grown dark, but thick snowflakes had also begun to drift down.

The village party secretary was rather stubborn. Not wanting his family to worry, he insisted on rushing home and refused any offers to escort him. After all, a man in his forties was in his prime; he didn’t want anyone to think less of him, nor did he want to be a bother to his daughter.

As a result, while rushing along in the middle of the night, he slipped and fell into a deep ditch by the road. It was filled with frozen water, offering no purchase, and to make matters worse, his wrist was pinned and broken...

The village party secretary struggled for a long time, but all he did was tire himself out to no avail.

If Jiang Yihua hadn’t happened to pass by, heard his faint gasps, and pulled him out, people would have probably found him frozen solid the next day!

The village party secretary was the backbone of his family; everyone, young and old, depended on him.

By saving his life, Jiang Yihua had saved his entire family from the brink of disaster.

His problems were their problems, and they even took priority over their own.

Originally, Jiang Yihua’s attention was on the old woman’s hand tugging at his. The hair on his body stood on end as a familiar, prickly sensation started on the back of his hand and spread rapidly.

Hearing the old woman’s cheeky words, he was at a loss for whether to laugh or cry. He was truly just worried Chi Yun’er would be mistreated with no one to back her up.

After all, Jiang Zishi was an expert at burning bridges. Once he found someone new, how much patience would he have for his ex?

Worse, given how intensely Jiang Zishi had pursued Chi Yun’er before, Jiang Yihua had no doubt that if she got in his way, Jiang Zishi would dare to silence her permanently!

Thinking of this, Jiang Yihua sighed softly and said in a low voice, ”Fourth Granny Bian, since you’ve already guessed, could you help me look after her a little more?”

”But... I like her, and I don’t want her to keep suffering in the village. If she knew how I felt, she’d definitely refuse to go back to the city.”

”You know it too. Many of the Educated Youth are already heading back one after another. It won’t be too long for me either. Only after I get back can I properly start a relationship with her. Don’t you think?”

The old woman chuckled and patted his hand. ”Yes, yes, of course! Granny knew you were a good boy—responsible and especially considerate of others.”

”You’re so much better than your brother. As long as Chi isn’t blind, she’d be happy to be with you!”

Jiang Yihua smiled and discreetly withdrew his hand. ”Fourth Granny Bian, I’ll let you get back to it. I have to hurry back to work.”

The old woman called out in acknowledgment and turned to press something into his hands, but Jiang Yihua was already out of the courtyard in a few quick steps.

She slapped her thigh and shouted with a laugh, ”Go on and run! I’ll just make some steamed egg with minced pork and take it to your girlfriend later...”

Jiang Yihua nearly tripped on a stone. A wry smile appeared on his face as he looked down at his arm, which was now red and swollen.

’How can someone with a condition like mine, this aversion to being touched, ever have a normal life like an ordinary person?’

’At the very least, he couldn’t imagine himself getting married and having children.’

Meanwhile, after Jiang Yihua left, Chi Yun’er took the bamboo basket down from the low branch. Its heavy weight was so staggering that she stumbled and nearly fell.

She’d seen him carry it so effortlessly, as if it were a basket of cotton fluff with no weight at all.

Even though the basket was piled high and she was somewhat prepared for it, she still couldn’t handle the weight.

Chi Yun’er struggled to carry the basket back into the house. She lifted the cotton cloth covering it, revealing it was packed full of things: smoked wild rabbit, pheasant, dried wild boar meat, dried fruit, dried shiitake mushrooms, and so on. There was even a bag of White Rabbit creamy candy, a bag of colorful fruit candies, a bag of milk powder, and a tin of malted milk powder...

It was clear he had meticulously prepared all of this for her.

Given the Jiang Family’s current circumstances, it wasn’t hard to imagine how many animals Jiang Yihua must have hunted and how many trades he must have made with others to gather such a collection of restorative foods.

Chi Yun’er smiled softly, her lips pursed. Feeling no burden, she set a few things aside and put the rest into her snack box.

When she turned around, she saw the mirror on the table. Her heart clenched, but she still walked over, picked it up, and looked at her reflection.

The girl in the mirror was exceptionally radiant and pretty. Even the phrase ’a feast for the eyes’ couldn’t capture a fraction of her beauty.
