When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 294: Chapter 113: The #1 Sister of the 1960s Song and Dance Troupe (Finale)

”Jie Xiaoqin, jealousy makes a person ugly. You’re already quite plain-looking; shouldn’t you at least try to beautify your soul?”

”Do you think a few words from you are enough to make people stupidly act as your pawns, charging into battle for your selfish desires?”

”Or do you believe what you did was so flawless that no one could possibly notice?”

”You remember what I said, don’t you? You can get away with something once or twice, but not a third or fourth time. I still have that letter of guarantee Mr. Yuan wrote.”

”Just you wait for your ruin!”

Jie Xiaoqin pressed her lips together tightly. A flash of shock at being discovered crossed her downcast eyes, and her body couldn’t help but tremble slightly at the fear of facing the consequences.

But then a thought occurred to her. ’Xia Zhaoyun can’t possibly have any evidence. Besides, I really only said a few words. What consequences could there be?’

She lifted her head, her face a mask of humiliation, and said:

”Xia Zhaoyun, can you stop acting like a mad dog, biting anyone you see?”

”Shouldn’t you reflect on what you did wrong to get an anonymous complaint filed against you?”

”Besides, we’re from the same work unit. Even if we’ve had our disagreements, we’re still a team when facing outsiders. Do you think I’m an idiot? Why would I report you?”

”And another thing, I was with the group the whole time. I never went off on my own.”

Xia Zhaoyun’s lips twitched into a smirk. ”You know perfectly well whether you were involved or not.”

”If I’m not mistaken, you were in the restroom, putting on a little show to plant the idea in someone else’s head.”

The restrooms at the Cultural Palace were different from other places; they had small stalls.

Jie Xiaoqin’s pupils constricted, but her face remained a mask of innocence.

”I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

”Don’t just assume I’m the one sabotaging things every time something doesn’t go your way. If there was nothing wrong with your performance, how could the complaint have been successful?”

But Xia Zhaoyun didn’t bother with her anymore. Instead, she walked over to another group and said with a light laugh, ”And you all just happened to overhear Jie Xiaoqin feigning concern, saying that while *Shishu Ruyi* has a good concept, its costumes and choreography show an appreciation for ancient dance that could easily be used against it, right?”

The girls tried to look calm, but they answered with forced confidence, ”Listen, we know you’re disappointed your performance wasn’t selected, but you can’t just go around falsely accusing people.”

Xia Zhaoyun mimicked their tone. ”And you can’t just frame people because we stole your spotlight, can you?”

”Did you not know that handwriting on an anonymous letter can be traced back to the writer?”

”If the contents of your complaint were true, that would be one thing. But if you’re just making a mountain out of a molehill, this could be classified as slander!”

”You’re just participating in a show. So you didn’t get to be the star this time; there will be other chances. There’s no need to let someone use you as a pawn and ruin your entire future.”

Their faces flushed red. ”We’re not despicable enough to do something like that, and we’re not stupid enough to be used as pawns.”

”It’s true, we heard someone muttering in the restroom that our performance was actually the best and technically superior to all the others, but you all won by a hair’s breadth through some trick.”

”But a win is a win, and a loss is a loss. There are no excuses.”

”Even though we were resentful, we accepted it with dignity. Next time, we’ll definitely win back our honor fair and square!”

The girls behind them all raised their fists and chanted in agreement.

The scene left Xia Zhaoyun not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

Fearing they would be suspected, those girls even stated the exact time they were in the restroom and overheard those words.

Jie Xiaoqin’s expression turned ugly. Several of the young women next to her were already glancing over at her.

They had gone to the restroom together right before their turn on stage. They had all come out first, with only Jie Xiaoqin dawdling inside for a little while.

’Who would have thought she could pull off something so big in just two or three minutes!’

The more they thought about it, the more terrified they became. They couldn’t help but wonder if they had ever offended her, worried they might be sold out by her one day without even knowing it.

Xia Zhaoyun scoffed at Jie Xiaoqin. ”You can keep making excuses and denying it to the death, but the facts are right in front of you. And yes, your few flimsy words aren’t enough to get you dragged to a station and sentenced.”

”But those few words of yours could very well affect the careers of the girls behind me. How is that any different from being an executioner? One kills with a blade, the other with piercing words that kill the spirit!”

”I’d like to see just how many people would be willing to be close friends with someone like you, and just how good the rest of your life will be. A person’s reputation doesn’t have to be ruined by going to jail...”
