When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 264: Chapter 107: Top Star of the 1960s Arts Troupe (46)

He Qingran pursed her lips. It was true.

’It’s a dog-eat-dog world for every job these days, especially the cushy ones with great benefits. Every position is already filled, and there are countless others waiting in the wings. How could I ever get a chance?’

”However, He Qingran placed seventh in this year’s Golden Microphone awards. That’s a national award, the cream of the crop among hundreds of outstanding announcers. You’re definitely more competitive than others,” Huo Tianhao added.

”You can try applying to every organization. There’s bound to be one that suits you. We’ll help you keep an eye out for openings, too. And if worse comes to worst, new factories are being built every year. The city’s new factories are all state-supported. The amenities might be scarce, but the benefits are absolutely solid.”

”We have our ears to the ground, so we won’t miss anything.”

He Qingran nodded repeatedly. Hearing him say that, she felt a bit more confident.

Xia Zhaoyun couldn’t help but say, ”Ranran, have you ever thought about working at a radio station?”

He Qingran was stunned. A radio station?

’For an announcer, that’s like the Central Political Department for a performing arts troupe member. It’s the absolute pinnacle!’

’Was it something a small fry like her could even dream of?’

Xia Zhaoyun smiled, pressing her lips together. ”I’m free now, too. There are still two months until the city’s Autumn Arts Festival in August, so I can help you cram.”

”See how successful my performance was? If you could do something similar and start a new program at the radio station, would you still have to worry about finding a job?”

He Qingran’s eyes went wide. ”Yunyun, do you think everyone is as capable as you? If I had that kind of skill, would I still be stuck wasting my days at the factory?”

”Is it that hard?” Xia Zhaoyun asked, tilting her head with a smile. ”The programs these days are all so monotonous. It’s just news, weather forecasts, crosstalk, storytelling, stories, and music appreciation.”

”But... are there other formats?” Not only He Qingran, but even Liu Mingkun asked curiously.

Xia Zhaoyun nodded. ”Lots of them. I think Ranran could read more books on psychology and answer questions for people who write in.”

Everyone was confused. What was so appealing about that?

Xia Zhaoyun’s eyes curved into crescents as she said, ”To put it simply, it’s about capturing everyone’s love for gossip and being a mediator!”

”The best stories, storytelling, and crosstalk all come from real life. In fact, a lot of things that happen in real life are even more interesting.”

”As long as you make the show a hit, you’ll definitely get letters from listeners from all over the country. You just need to pick out typical problems, find wise people to help solve them, and then give a sharp summary at the end.”

”I think a lot of people would be happy to listen, don’t you?”

Everyone started to get the picture.

He Qingran was trembling with excitement. ”This show is worth a try! I need to think it over and write a few scripts first.”

Liu Mingkun chimed in, ”I know someone at the radio station. I can ask them to give you a time slot on a less popular channel. It’s just repurposing resources, so it shouldn’t be hard.”

”If the program does well, you won’t even have to ask. The station director will offer you generous terms to stay!”

While the two of them chatted excitedly, Xia Zhaoyun and Huo Tianhao took their child and went home.

After putting the child down, Huo Tianhao pulled her into the bedroom. He hugged her and nuzzled against her for a moment to satisfy his craving, looking at his pink-cheeked, shy wife and wishing it were already nighttime.

”I’ll go see about buying some more kinds of meat. You get some rest. When I get back, you can tell me what vegetables to pick from the garden.” He held her, unwilling to let go.

Xia Zhaoyun nodded and said with a light laugh, ”Bring back some drinks, too. I’ll get some of the ingredients prepped at home.”

”Don’t wear yourself out,” Huo Tianhao said, continuing to lean on her, his words not matching his actions.

Being doted on like this, especially by such a tall, well-built man, was a novel experience for Xia Zhaoyun. Her heart felt soft and warm, and she gently stroked his back.

”Darling?”

”Hmm?”

”Are... are you ready?” the man asked out of the blue.

Xia Zhaoyun was a little confused.

”Where am I sleeping tonight?” Huo Tianhao asked with a low laugh. ”If you’re not ready, I can just stay at the guest house with Kun.”

Suddenly, Xia Zhaoyun’s whole body flushed red, like a boiled shrimp.

She averted her eyes, not knowing where to look, and mumbled, ”This is your home. Why would you go stay at the guest house? What a waste of money.”

Huo Tianhao pulled her out of his embrace, cupped her chin, and gently stroked it. His eyes were deep and blazing. ”Darling, wait for me!”

After saying that, he pecked her on the lips again and left with a smile.
