When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 283: Chapter 112: Leading Lady of the 1960s Cultural Troupe (51)

Although prenatal checkups weren’t yet common practice among the general public, and ultrasound diagnostics had not been popularized nationwide, the Southern City General Military Hospital, being in the capital of Xiahua, could already use Doppler technology. It was used to detect fetal heartbeats, monitor the placenta, umbilical cord, arteries, and veins, and diagnose certain conditions.

The report Huo Tianhao handed Xia Zhaoyun contained a precise diagnosis.

The fetus was two months along, but its development was not proceeding well.

Multiple, improperly performed abortions had caused an infection in the mother’s uterine lining, which in turn was affecting the fetus’s development.

The doctor’s recommendation was for Song Zhenbao to terminate the pregnancy while it was still in its early stages. Then, she should spend two or three years recuperating before trying to conceive again, and only after passing a thorough physical examination.

But Song Zhenbao wanted to use the child to solidify her position in the Tong family, so she had been gritting her teeth and letting the pregnancy drag on.

Now that she had successfully married into the Tong family, she wanted to use a miscarriage to its greatest effect—for instance, by framing Xia Zhaoyun.

In any case, Xia Zhaoyun had run into Song Zhenbao countless times over the past half-month. However, Xia Zhaoyun always had someone with her, preventing Song Zhenbao from finding an opportunity to act.

’With this report, Song Zhenbao’s fate is in my hands. She can’t just stir up trouble at the factory whenever she pleases, like she did in our past life!’

Furthermore, Huo Tianhao handed her a very old registration form.

Xia Zhaoyun took it. She hadn’t even glanced at it yet, but she already had a good idea of what it was, and her heart began to race with fear.

Huo Tianhao chuckled softly and ruffled her hair. ”It’s okay. No matter what we find, the children and I are here with you. And don’t forget why you started this. You just want to know who they are; this won’t change our lives now.”

Xia Zhaoyun took a deep breath and nodded firmly. She gripped his hand, drawing courage from his touch, while her other hand clutched the form as she began to examine it meticulously.

Huo Tianhao explained in a low voice, ”The medical records from the day you were born are indeed missing, but the admission and discharge paperwork still exists. They were handled by a different department, so the Song Family’s influence didn’t extend far enough to have them destroyed.”

”Both the Song and Zhang families had babies at Northern City People’s Hospital on the same day.” He tapped the names of Mother Song and Mother Zhang. ”The hospital’s registration information was quite detailed, and people rarely moved back then. I took the opportunity during my business trips to visit each address.”

He paused for a moment. ”I first narrowed my search to maternity patients admitted or discharged within three days of the Song and Zhang families. Fortunately, most women gave birth at home back then, so in that timeframe, there were only forty or fifty maternity patients at the hospital.”

”There are three families I haven’t been able to contact yet. Of the remaining ones, two reported a lost baby girl. We can’t rule out the possibility that they intentionally abandoned their child.”

Xia Zhaoyun’s gaze froze on a name: Gao Fanglin. ”This... This is Teacher Gao from our troupe!”

Huo Tianhao nodded. ”Yes. Teacher Gao and her husband were sent away to a small mountain village in the south. Transportation is difficult and communication is unreliable there, which is why they’re one of the families I haven’t been able to contact yet.”

”However, based on the neighbors’ descriptions of these families, your features most closely match those of Gao Fanglin and her husband. That’s why I suspect you might be their child.”

Xia Zhaoyun pressed her lips together tightly, her eyes stinging. ”I remember... When I first joined the arts troupe, Teacher Gao saw me and immediately asked for my date of birth. She seemed a little disappointed when I told her.”

”A child’s looks change from day to day, but as I got older and my features settled, I did start to bear a strong resemblance to Teacher Gao. But because of our differences in age, style, and demeanor, very few people ever made the connection between us.”

”But when we did meet properly, we both felt a sense of familiarity. It’s a shame that not long after, she was denounced and sent away...”

”If Song Yongming and Yan Yuqin had the means to make that day’s medical records disappear, it’s very likely they falsified my date of birth as well!”

”After all, Yan Yuqin was admitted to the hospital a month and a half before my official birthday. She must have been trying to cover something up...”

Huo Tianhao agreed with her suspicions. ”The political climate is a bit sensitive right now, so no one dares to make contact with anyone overseas. Otherwise, I would send hair samples from you and Gao Fanglin abroad for a DNA test.”

Xia Zhaoyun nodded listlessly. ”With all her wicked schemes, Yan Yuqin would never tell me the truth. Right now, this is all just speculation on our part. What if we’re wrong and this is all a big misunderstanding? Wouldn’t that just break Teacher Gao’s heart?”
