Chapter 2423: Chapter 2424: Power of the Mind

Angel plans to wait here for a moment. If the misty shadow really comes back, it will be a good surprise for it; if it doesn’t return, it doesn’t matter, as Reynaud’s physical body has already been found.

After making the decision, he stretched out his finger and pointed at a spot in the energy poison mist not far away.

An illusion of ”Reynaud” appeared out of thin air, lying face down there.

Angel himself slightly leaned back, as if blending into the spatial ripples, merging with the surrounding environment.

After completing the concealment measures, Angel again looked at the bottle in his hand.

He quietly watched the purple-black crystal that shimmered in the cold liquid inside the bottle, pondering for a moment, before retrieving the geometric lock from his bracelet.

He manipulated the geometric lock to shrink to the size of a palm-sized box, and then Angel cautiously placed the bottle inside it.

The geometric lock is engraved with a breathless seal, capable of concealing the diffusion of its aura to some extent.

The reason he placed the bottle inside the geometric lock was not to guard against the misty shadow, but to prevent greater risks.

He couldn’t determine what the purple-black crystal inside the bottle was. If there is even an extremely small probability that it is an organ of Slip’s larva, and if Gluz Deward really became enraged due to No. 01’s actions, then he could be implicated because of this bottle.

So, just to be safe, he first placed the bottle into the geometric lock.

Then he would evaluate the situation before deciding whether to keep or discard the bottle.

After doing all this, Angel prepared to put away the geometric lock. He initially activated the bracelet space, but after two seconds of weird hesitation, he closed the bracelet space. Ultimately, he gently tossed the geometric lock, letting it fall into the shadow on the ground, where it was caught by a hand extended from the shadow and sunk.

Keeping it in the bracelet posed certain risks, it’s better to leave it with Earl Mi.

After dealing with the bottle, Angel waited for the arrival of the misty shadow while opening the mind ribbon, ready to chat with Reynaud about his physical body.

But just as Angel was preparing to connect the mind ribbon, he was surprised to find... the mind ribbon had already been severed.

What happened, why did Lord Kanter suddenly sever the mind ribbon? Is there a problem on the fourth floor?

Full of doubt, Angel looked towards Toby and Dangross.

With Dangross’s explanations, and Toby occasionally chiming in, Angel finally understood what had happened.

Ferro crushed the crystal that Kanter had given him; either No. 03 forcefully broke through there, or Nos. 01 and others have returned. In such a situation, Nis must definitely go out to support Ferro.

As for Angel, Kanter hopes that whether or not he has found Reynaud’s body, he should leave the laboratory as soon as possible.

”When did they leave?”

Dangross: ”Not long after I mentioned the bottle looked familiar. They explained the situation before leaving, and I was just about to find a chance to say something to you, but then you asked me.”

It was only a minute or two ago, when Angel was contemplating the matter of the bottle, so he didn’t notice Dangross’s hint.

Dangross: ”Should we leave now? Or wait here?”

Angel didn’t hesitate: ”Let’s go.”

In terms of hatred for the misty shadow, Nis and the others might be more resentful, as they were indeed set up. As for Angel, he had no direct conflict with the misty shadow, and now Reynaud’s physical body has been recovered, exploring the misty shadow’s affairs is not really important.

Moreover, Lord Kanter advised him to leave quickly, perhaps foreseeing some danger.

Therefore, leaving quickly is the best choice now.

Without any hesitation, Angel dashed towards the exit.

However, shortly after Angel left, he heard an angry roar coming from a distant corridor.

Dangross also heard it: ”The sound seems to be coming from the corridor where we previously stayed.”

”It’s a beast’s roar, probably the organism in the magical beast garden that the misty shadow newly possessed. Judging by the sound, it should be stronger than the previous fire-scale summoned demon,” Angel said casually.

”It must have discovered that Reynaud is not there anymore, should we go over?”

Angel shook his head: ”No need.”

”...But what if it catches up with us?” Dangross asked hesitantly.

Upon hearing Dangross’s question, Angel immediately halted, turning back to look at the dark, deep corridor.

Although he couldn’t see the beast’s figure at this moment, he had already heard the clattering of footsteps. The ground also conveyed a faint sensation of vibration, which was becoming increasingly strong.

The mist shadow really did catch up.

Just as Angel was thinking this, a tall figure shrouded in dense black smoke suddenly darted out from the depths of the corridor, lunging fiercely at Angel.

Angel subtly shifted his body, dodging the pounce.

He was about to turn back when he saw a giant hand the size of a fan striking towards his face.

With another backward dodge, Angel had already assumed a stance, ready to fight the opponent. However, the tall figure didn’t pursue but instead retreated to the side, observing the surroundings with eyes as large as bells.

Angel stepped forward, and the opponent continued to fling his hand but did not pursue, and moreover, its gaze wasn’t focused on Angel at all but wandering around.

At this moment, in a hidden dark corner, Dangross whispered: ”Why use illusion techniques to fight again, it’s really not...”

Before Dangross could finish the word ”worth”, Toby shot it a cold glance.

Dangross shivered and quickly said: ”I mean, fighting like this without wasting physical strength, how wonderful.”

After pausing, Dangross looked again at the ”illusionary realm” in the distance: ”However, that guy seems to have noticed the illusion Mr. Pat is using, it’s not getting tangled with the illusion.”

Dangross’s words naturally were heard by Angel as well.

Indeed, he noticed that the mystical creature newly possessed by the mist shadow seemed much more cautious, not directly engaging in battle with the illusion but rather observing the surroundings.

Whether it discovered the illusion or is merely cautious is hard to say.

However, regarding this possessed race, Angel believes it probably doesn’t have the ability to see through illusions.

The Gomitio is the new creature possessed by the mist shadow.

The Gomitio is a humanoid monster, about three meters tall, with gray skin clearly showing the bulging blue-purple veins beneath. Its face is hideous, with a giant mouth like a crocodile, tusks protruding outward, no nasal bridge but five nostrils arranged in parallel, its eye occupying half of the face but is just a terrifying single eye.

Overall, the Gomitio fits well with the general human perception of horrifying monsters. However, its actual power doesn’t match its appearance, with a large discrepancy.

The Gomitio, also known as the ”Heart-devouring Ghost”, is a very low-level magical creature, dim-witted, strong but lacks combat intelligence. Even mortal knights, as long as they find the right way, could possibly defeat it.

It’s not a magical creature of this world, usually appearing in the Southern Domain, mostly in the form of a summoned beast. But this Gomitio is clearly not in summoned beast form, it should have been captured by the base laboratory from another world and now chosen by the mist shadow as its new host.

Previously, Angel thought the mist shadow possessed a magical creature stronger than the fire-scaled summoned demon, but in terms of overall strength, the Gomitio actually isn’t much different from the fire-scaled summoned demon.

Though there are many strong magical creatures in the Magical Beast Garden, it chose a weaker one. Perhaps Angel’s guess is correct, that the mist shadow currently cannot possess too powerful magical creatures.

As for why it could possess Reynaud, maybe it’s because Reynaud’s soul and body were separated?

Recognizing the Gomitio made Angel feel that the mist shadow might not have seen through the illusion, it’s simply cautious. After all, on the fifth level, Angel had fooled it with illusions.

However, no matter how cautious it is, it’s useless, as the absolute strength gap is a gap that wisdom cannot fill.

Angel didn’t have time to dally with the mist shadow here, he decided to end the fight quickly.

He directly released a Wizard-level pressure.

Under the sweep of pressure, anything without Official Wizard-level strength virtually has no resistance.

Yet, when Angel thought one strike would achieve the effect, he suddenly noticed that the Gomitio wasn’t trembling as he imagined but instead released a peculiar energy on its surface. This energy didn’t stop the pressure but counteracted the impact of the pressure.

”This energy... seems like the power of the mind.” Angel once saw the spirited girl Kavoline battling Sharley in the Sky Mechanical City, at that time Kavoline transformed into a splendid Divine Robe of the Mind, releasing the power of the mind. That kind of energy following one’s heart left a profound impression on Angel. After that, Angel never saw similar power again, and he didn’t expect the second encounter would be on a low-strength Gomitio!

Moreover, the Gomitio, by relying on the power of the mind, resisted the pressure he released!

”Heart-devouring Ghost... Power of the Mind...” These two might have some connection, but Angel believed that an ordinary Gomitio absolutely couldn’t achieve this, this is the blessing of the mist shadow!

Or rather, it’s the potential development of the Gomitio by the mist shadow.

Like when the mist shadow possessed the fire-scaled summoned demon before, it also pushed the fire-scaled summoned demon’s abilities to an unprecedented peak.

But thinking carefully, is it really potential development? Does an ordinary Gomitio have the potential of the power of the mind?

Maybe such power is hidden within ancient bloodlines, but such deeply hidden bloodline power, even a True Knowledge-level bloodline wizard, cannot trigger atavism, right?

This mist shadow... what exactly is it? What are the limits of its ability? Can it apply to all bloodlines?

Angel’s interest in this mist shadow had cooled, but now it surged once more.

Perhaps defeating it is not the best choice, capturing it is.
