Chapter 1339: Section 1340 Sailor’s Miracle

Popota looked at Angel with confusion, “Experimental trick? The previous door, was it not created by Angel’s transmutation?”

Popota’s face was full of puzzlement, but he didn’t ask, instead quietly waiting for Angel’s next move.

The situation on the freighter below was completely one-sided.

If this were on land, perhaps they could triumph with numbers. But here was the boundless sea, with no islands or land in sight.

No matter how many people there were, facing an opponent who could manipulate waves, had immense strength, and could even transmute seawater into tridents, they were utterly powerless.

The iron freighter, designed to withstand storms, was now of no use; it was like an iron coffin awaiting to bury their bodies.

… Even the most exquisite knightly combat skills, without the support of extraordinary power, were useless against the long-range attacks of the Whaling Sea Demon.

Even if they had an archer blessed by the gods, amidst the violent rocking of the ship and the inflow of seawater, they couldn’t alter their fate. Not to mention, the Whaling Sea Demon’s skin was thick and tough, and ordinary arrows might not even penetrate.

All faced their despair, merely waiting for their “coffin” to sink and find eternal rest at the bottom of the sea.

Only the sailor who was initially on deck revolted in his heart. Amidst the tumult, he took a rope from the mast and tied it around his waist, securing his position.

His palm gripped the railing, and under the pale moonlight, the veins on the back of his hand bulged, clearly visible.

“I can’t die, my dearest wife, my adorable daughter, they are waiting for me to return.” The sailor repeated the names of his wife and daughter, as if those two names were his talismans, “I promised my wife that once I return, I would take her to live in Sea Moon City, so I absolutely cannot die here.”

Amid the frenzied tossing of the ship, and the despairing cries of everyone aboard, the sailor leapt onto the railing.

Beneath the railing was the deep sea, now frothed with white foam due to the violent waves.

In front of him were waves of towering surges and the tridents that occasionally sprang from the crest of the waves, having already struck many.

The sailor had even witnessed with his own eyes how his drunken companion, who had stood watch with him on the deck at night, was horrifically impaled by a trident through the skull, splashing brains and shattering bones.

Therefore, the power of these tridents, transformed from seawater, was undeniably formidable.

Standing on the railing, he faced the rain of tridents descending like a storm, arguably in the most dangerous place. Although frightened in his heart, he knew that if he didn’t fight back, death was the only path.

“What are you doing, get down from there!” A faint voice carried to the sailor’s ears through the wind and waves.

He turned his head and saw the old navigator, who was hiding under the tilted crow’s nest, clutching the broken mast and calling out to him with difficulty.

“Don’t be rash, perhaps a miracle will happen, the Sea Goddess may bless us and see us safely through this disaster,” the old navigator thought the sailor intended to jump into the sea and hurriedly tried to dissuade him.

“The Sea Goddess is the faith of the Hailan Kingdom, we are a freighter of the Goldfinch Empire. Rather than pray for an ephemeral rescue, I trust more in myself,” the sailor didn’t look back, his eyes firmly fixed on the surging waves.

He had clearly seen, with the rising waves, the Whaling Sea Demon’s figure was also swaying in motion.

Once, it even neared, almost right beside the freighter!

“`

So, he was waiting for a chance to leap in front of the Sea Demon, an opportunity to fight the creature up close. Even if the duel to the death didn’t yield any results, at least he would have fought for a sliver of hope.

With that belief, the sailor, holding a slightly curved long knife, ran back and forth on the railing, dodging flying tridents and covertly observing every detail in the waves.

His body was already soaked with seawater, but he still leapt to and fro along the ship’s side and railing, his side face illuminated by the moonlight, his forehead band fluttering.

While the sailor was running and jumping along the ship’s side with a knife in hand, the old Navigator realized his true purpose – it wasn’t to seek death by jumping into the sea, but to observe the waves, looking for a chance of survival!

The old Navigator knew this sailor, whose strength was only average on board. If not for his outstanding observational ability, which earned him the task of keeping watch outside, he might have been lost among the crowd.

Yet, at this moment, when almost everyone else on the ship had given up hope, he was the only one with the courage and audacity to face this terrifying enemy.

The old Navigator fell silent, bowed his head amidst the rocking of the deck and murmured almost in a whisper, “Perhaps there really is a path to survival after all.”

But this time, he did not place his hopes on the elusive and ethereal Sea Goddess.

The sailor’s continuous leaping was nearly scraped by tridents several times.

The only piece of luck was that he was on a secluded side of the deck, with a rope tied around his waist, making him appear to shake with the rolling ship rather than deliberately dodging the tridents.

Thus, he had not yet caught the attention of the whale-hunting Sea Demon.

“No, it’s glowing Jellyfish.” The sailor scrutinized the movements in the waves, not missing a single detail.

“Flying fish? Why join the chaos now?” “How did the bottle hit me, damn it, why does it look so familiar… That guy’s meddling even in death!” “…”

The sailor cursed, driving away the cowardice in his heart. Moreover, by thinking of his wife and daughter, he continued to bolster his courage.

Just after a wave crashed over, the moonlight spread across the sea, and the sailor’s eyes brightened – he saw a green fishtail!

Those familiar green scales, along with the black figure holding a trident, unmistakably revealed its identity!

“I see you!”

Without hesitation, the sailor leapt into the air!

That fierce shout caused the surviving crew members to lift their heads unconsciously. They saw a figure garbed in familiar clothing, against the backdrop of the full moon, resembling an arrow in flight, charging toward the whale-hunting Sea Demon who hadn’t managed to dive back into the sea.

“The chance has come!” At that moment, the old Navigator, regardless of the pitching of the ship, shakily stood up, his eyes shining.

With the sailor’s leap, even those who previously didn’t understand his actions now realized what the sailor was trying to do.

Hearts that had been deathly still suddenly started beating again.

This leap was like a bud piercing through the cracked ground of despair. It was the only hope seen by those who were waiting for death amidst their hopelessness.

Even the captain, by this time, pinned all his hopes on the sailor.

“`

The leap that carried the fate of all did not disappoint them!

The sailor’s keen observation and perfect timing were matched by the bright moonlight and temporary calm of the waves. Heaven and earth stood with the sailor as he deftly leaped to the side of the whale-hunting Sea Demon.

Most crucially, the Sea Demon had its back to him, its naked back resembling the flesh awaiting slaughter on a cutting board under the ghastly moonlight.

Even fate stood with the sailor!

He raised his knife, the blade gleaming silver, and without hesitation, he thrust it forcefully towards the Sea Demon’s chest as it began to turn its head!

All eyes were fixed on this moment. They clenched their teeth, hearts pounding, waiting for the final outcome.

Success or failure, survival or death!

With a thud!

The Sea Demon’s tough hide only parted enough to show a bloody scratch when the knife came down. Although the sailor’s heart sank, he did not give up and prepared to swing a second blow!

However, he needed first to secure his footing; he had previously relied on the momentum from stepping on the railing to make his strike, but now, he needed something to brace his feet against to deliver the second blow.

Without hesitation, his legs hooked around the Sea Demon’s belly like claws.

They coiled around the Sea Demon like gnarled branches on an old tree, holding it tightly in place.

Once secure, the sailor again raised his knife and swung anew. Following the initial cut, this stroke went deeper, almost revealing bone!

He readied for a third blow! The sailor was sure, if this strike landed, it would pierce the Sea Demon’s heart!

Just as he was about to succeed, the Sea Demon, which had been passive until now, seized control of a wave as it felt its struggles to escape the human’s grip were futile. It ceased its struggle and instead manipulated the water.

In its haste, the Sea Demon could not complete the Trident’s Transmutation, so it altered its approach and transformed the water into a jet, targeting the human’s wrist instead.

The force was light, merely deflecting the sailor’s wrist slightly.

But this slight change instantly overturned the battle.

Because the sailor was soaked, even with the knife’s enclosed handle, it became very slippery in his drenched palm. Now, with a column of water surging at him.

The knife slipped from his grasp and sunk into the sea with startling speed.

The sailor’s breath hitched.

He was well aware, without his weapon, he could not harm the Sea Demon!

And the moment the Sea Demon broke free was imminent; his fate seemed sealed.

The eyes of everyone aboard the ship dimmed, none having anticipated such a turn at the final moment. A small detail had reversed the outcome, revealing that the whale-hunting Sea Demon’s intelligence was no less than that of humans.

A grating and crazed laughter emanated from the mouth of the whale-hunting Sea Demon.

The sailor’s legs were numb; without a weapon, he knew death wasn’t far off.

He looked up at the sky, his eyes glazed.

“Wife, daughter… I’m sorry, I can’t keep my promise…”

As despair engulfed the sailor, his pupils suddenly dilated at the sight of another light shining from the sky!

And this time, he saw it more clearly!

It was indeed the dream-like Moonlight Ship hovering in the night sky, just as he had told the old navigator.

“It’s not a dream?” the sailor murmured softly.

While the sailor was lost in thought, a white shadow suddenly darted across the Moonlight Ship, extending quickly like a serpent.

And its destination was the sailor!

The sailor was stunned for a moment. Not until the white shadow stretched from the high-flying Moonlight Ship to his vicinity did he realize that this so-called white shadow was more like a tendril of white tentacles.

It is worth mentioning that this white tentacle was incredibly long, stretching at least a hundred meters from the sea surface to the high sky.

Moreover, the white tentacle appeared not to be solid but more like ethereal mist.

As the sailor wondered what this white tentacle was, it suddenly inverted.

Before he could react, a familiar and crisp sound rang beside him, amidst the gasps of the crew behind on the ship.

A silver flash fell from the sky!

The sailor instinctively caught the glint of falling silver!

He looked at the object in his hand, astonished—

A knife!

It was the knife he had lost!

With the curved knife in grip, the sailor no longer pondered why the blade fell from the sky or what the white tentacle was—all his thoughts centered on the knife in his hand.

“I have not lost; victory is mine!” The sailor cried out his wife and daughter’s names, his eyes sparkling with tenacity as he swung his knife with unstoppable force!

Right into the chest of the whale-hunting Sea Demon!

Blood splattered, and the heart shattered!
