Chapter 1089: Section 1090 Guilt

Immortal? Awakening abilities?

“Awakening!” It was as if a clap of thunder resounded in his mind, and Angel suddenly recalled the message previously mentioned by Lord Monty.

Not long ago, in Lassudral, there was a demon that had undergone an Abyssal Awakening!

Could it be this Pannas Charm Demon?!

Angel’s expression was one of shock. What did Abyssal Awakening imply? It meant not only a smooth road to becoming a future lord but also, the rarity and power associated with awakening were invariably the keywords linked to it whenever discussed.

Such a rare Awakened Demon, Lassudral might only have this single one!

Of course, what Angel didn’t know was that, not far away in the Hunting Museum, there was another who had awakened much earlier and was even on the verge of stepping into lordship.

But setting that night aside, in Lassudral, there truly was only Pannas.

Putting aside the power of awakening for the moment, its Awakening Ability was the ultimate pursuit of all fleshly demons—immortality!

Angel’s expression soured as he faced such a fearsome succubus, even his staunchest defenses of confidence began to show signs of crumbling.

Angel forced himself to calm down, “Unless one reaches the level of eternal immortality, all forms of immortality are only relative.”

This succubus couldn’t possibly be truly immortal, there must be some limitation.

Just like the Blood Night Butcher who rampaged across Winsbills two thousand years ago, who also claimed to be immortal, and indeed, no one could truly kill him, not even a Legendary Wizard.

However, later on, a wizard skilled in stealth sneaked into his laboratory, obtained some research data, and discovered that the Blood Night Butcher wasn’t truly immortal. In fact, as long as his heart and brain were destroyed, he would still die. Yet, the Blood Night Butcher had stored his heart and brain in the Everlasting Black Casket. Even though everyone knew his weakness, finding the Everlasting Black Casket was no easy feat.

This succubus had similarities with the Blood Night Butcher but also differences.

Similar in that their immortality definitely had limitations.

And different because, from awakening to now, actually only a short time had passed for the succubus, and it didn’t thoroughly understand its abilities yet.

Just like before when Angel thought the succubus was provoking her, letting her slash at it to show off its defense, that wasn’t the case. It was purely because the succubus had too little understanding of its awakened state and was using Angel’s attacks to test the limits of its defense.

Following this logic, even if the succubus knew its Awakening Ability was immortality, it wouldn’t have had much time to conceal the “limitations of immortality”.

If he could find the limit to its immortality, he could succeed!

But what could be the succubus’s limitation to immortality? A time restriction? Tolerance limit? A blocking mechanism? Or was it like the Blood Night Butcher, with a specific organ being the weak point?

Angel’s mind churned rapidly, and although only a few seconds had passed, she had already begun devising a plan to test the succubus’s immortal restrictions.

“Test the blocking mechanism first.” Angel moved with incredible speed, without hesitation he struck at the succubus.

Now, the succubus was still in the process of regenerating its form; its body, chopped in half, had fused back a great deal, leaving only the head. What Angel intended to do was to test the immortality limit by blocking it before the head could regenerate!

Angel was correct in his thinking; the succubus was indeed expending energy to repair its body and was at its weakest. However, Angel had overlooked one thing—the succubus’s talent.

The strength of the succubus’s body was an inheritance from its Abyssal Awakening.

But before the Abyssal Awakening, it had climbed to the peak of Intermediate Rank demons on its own, not through physical strength.

Angel’s ambush ultimately failed. The succubus’s tail of light, which could defend as well as attack, coupled with its overwhelmingly terrifying spiritual power, like an abyss, caught Angel unawares with a mental spike.

Normally, it might have been fine, but Angel was in bad shape, with organs damaged, bloodline injured, Magical Core depleted… A convergence of wounds left him almost completely defenseless against the mental spike.

Agonizing pain seized him from brain to body.

The world turned to black and white. Clutching his head and swaying precariously, it was only through sheer willpower that Angel managed not to collapse completely.

By then, the test he wanted to conduct on the blocking mechanism had failed. The succubus’s head had completely regenerated, without a single trace of wound on its body, its streamlined physique brimming with power.

“So this is the power of rebirth,” murmured the succubus, intoxicated. It was the first time it used immortality to recover its form, and the surge of vitality emerging from the depths of its flesh was engrossing.

One was fully revitalized, the other on the verge of collapse.

Unbeknownst to them, the balance of victory had already tipped towards the succubus.

After indulging in self-absorption, the succubus finally turned its gaze to Angel, licked its lips with a greedy look, “Indeed, as mother said. Such beautiful vitality, it’s about time to indulge…”

Angel’s eyes dimmed, watching the succubus slowly advance toward him, he slowly placed a hand on his chest.

There hung a frost-colored crescent moon pendant.

It was the protective charm left to him by Lord Monty. Back in the Land of Repose, Baltica had mentioned he possessed items suitable for trade, and one of them referred to this crescent moon pendant.

This crescent moon pendant is the trump card.

It is not only Sinafa’s trump card but also the entire Frostmoon Alliance’s trump card.

Since Monty His Excellency has taken on the task of hunting the descendants of the Demon God, it is natural to have a trump card ready. However, until now, not a single trump card of Frostmoon has been revealed… Sinafa showed a bitter smile, never expecting that she would be the first to reveal her trump card.

She clenched the crescent moon pendant tightly. Exchanging a trump card for a potential demon seed of Abyssal Awakening was not a loss… Moreover, after using this trump card, Monty His Excellency would naturally notice the situation here, and her life could be saved as well.

With this thought, Sinafa’s heart settled slightly. She just waited for the Succubus to get closer, then she could reveal her trump card.

As the figure of the Succubus approached, Sinafa’s gaze grew darker. The crescent moon pendant in her hand also began to emit a faint frosty glow…

—Even if you can avoid death, I do not believe you can withstand the eternal freeze.

However, just at that moment, the Succubus suddenly stopped, its gaze confusedly looking towards the distant sea of fire.

Sinafa frowned at the Succubus, somewhat unclear why the Succubus had suddenly become distracted at this most critical moment? With two more steps forward, she would have to reveal her trump card.

Sinafa watched the Succubus’s expression and it took her a while to realize that it seemed to be whispering with someone else.

“Could it be communicating with a hidden observer?” Sinafa thought so, her spiritual power injured now; she found it difficult to lock onto the surrounding information.

Soon after, the Succubus raised its head, looking at Sinafa with an odd expression.

“Since the owner asked me to let you go, then so be it,” said the Succubus with a tone of coquettishness and helplessness, “Although I really wanted to consume you, since it’s the owner’s request, I must obey~”

“Right, owner?” murmured the Succubus, speaking with a seductive undertone.

On the other side, within the Domain of Wind, Angel quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

When Sinafa showed signs of defeat, and it looked like Nya was about to kill Sinafa, Angel, after much hesitation, still sent a message to Nya.

The reason Angel did this was not only because he and Sinafa were both humans; there was another reason: he felt a sense of guilt.

The awakening of Nya was something he had facilitated himself.

Previously, when Pulapa, who loathed humans, made a significant advancement in strength, Angel had thought it best not to encounter him on the battlefield, knowing that these demons, having undergone their journey of experience, were, by his own hands, stirred up for his own benefit.

At the time, it was just a thought for Angel, but now, that thought suddenly became reality.

Could the Succubus Pannas from a few days ago have defeated Sinafa? The answer is no. But now, driven into a desperate corner by its mighty physical form and terrifying Awakening Abilities, all because of the awakening Angel had instigated.

Although it was not a direct confrontation with Nya, Angel still felt some guilt.

Under the guidance of this guilt, Angel sent a message to Nya.

Of course, whether he could successfully persuade Nya, Angel did not know. If he could not persuade her, there was nothing he could do. After all, the guilt in his heart was not enough to make him go out of his way to save Sinafa.

Thankfully, Nya agreed.

Nya had always been aware that Angel was observing the battle, so when Angel sent the message, it did not refuse. However, facing the request Angel made, Nya was somewhat puzzled.

But to Nya, Sinafa was merely a delectable snack, an incidental Testing Stone to measure its Awakening Abilities. To spare her was no issue; after all, there were plenty more snacks like that to be had.

Even though Nya was puzzled by Angel’s request, it agreed nonetheless. After all, Angel had played a significant role in its awakening.

Of course, in regards to the so-called “debt of gratitude,” Nya also had its own scale of measure in its heart.

The thing Angel asked for was of no great importance, thus it could afford to let it slide.

After making its point to Sinafa, Nya threw a wink in the direction of the sea of fire and then turned and disappeared from sight.

However, Sinafa just stood there in a daze, watching the scene unfold. How had it suddenly come to pass that the Succubus had decided not to kill her? Moreover, its departure was so abrupt and decisive.

Question marks continuously flickered through Sinafa’s mind. She remembered, the Succubus had mentioned that some owner had asked it to let her go. But who was this owner?

Sinafa sat up, looking around at her surroundings.

Aside from the vast expanse of the sea of fire, she couldn’t see any sign of anyone. Her spiritual power being injured, she had no way of knowing whether this “hidden observer” was near or not.

Suppressing the turmoil and pain within her body, Sinafa spoke in the standard language of demons to her surroundings, “Who are you?”

After a while, Sinafa received a telepathic message.

The other party did not use the Demon Language but spoke in the aristocratic tones of the human common language.
