Chapter 39: Donating Grains ( 8 )

Yao Zhi prepared a total of three sets and used a total of twelve glass jars. She also added five wooden toothbrushes and put them into a sack.

When she came out, the breakfast was ready. She walked to Da Zhu and handed him the sack.

”There are a total of three sets inside. The white paste is used to brush teeth. The transparent white liquid is for washing your hair, and the clear blue liquid is for washing your body. Then the milky white paste is to wash your face.”

Da Zhu thought she was joking. So when he received the sack, he was stunned. It took him a moment to regain his composure and say, ”Thank you, Young Master Lei.”

The guards were curious and went over to check the items inside the sacks. The moment they saw the transparent jar, they couldn’t help but take a sharp breath.

Not only was the jar transparent, but the craftsmanship was also exquisite. Even the lid was carved with beautiful flowers and bird patterns. Just the jar itself must cost a lot of money, and Young Master Lei just gave so many sets to Da Zhu as if it were nothing!

Because of these gifts, Yao Zhi’s image among the escort team members had been alleviated by a hundredfold. Right now, they no longer had any doubts about her wealth, connection, or capability.

When they saw her eating the coarse-grain steamed bun while sipping the wild vegetable soup, their admiration for her increased. Despite her wealth, she was humble, generous, and kind.

Not knowing that she had become an idol for a group of burly men, Yao Zhi was enjoying her breakfast.

Although the soup was made with only wild vegetables and some cabbage, it was fresh with a hint of sweetness. With the addition of lard and salt, the taste was good.

As for the steamed bun, it was made from mixing the white flour and millet flour.

Thanks to the combination of the flours, the steamed bun was light and soft in texture while retaining the flavor from millet flour. Not only did it taste good, but it also had higher nutrients compared to using only white flour.

While they were eating, Yao Zhi said, ”Master Luo, I plan to visit the General’s mansion. Do you know where it is?”

Hearing this, Luo Bo thought of something and asked, ”Young Master Lei, are you planning to donate the grain?”

Yao Zhi didn’t plan to hide this matter from the escort team and nodded. ”This time, I came to sell grains, but I heard that our army was facing trouble and needed provisions as soon as possible.”

”My family has money, and we didn’t lack this little. If I can exchange grains for treasures, I think my father will be delighted when I go back to report.”

If they didn’t see the items she gave away, the guards might not believe her words. But after witnessing her generosity, they believed that she was from a very wealthy family. For such a family, having treasures was far better than piling up money.

Reaching this conclusion, everyone nodded with understanding.

”Young Master Lei, if you want to visit the General’s mansion, I can show you the way. We can bring a few people with us and go on horseback,” Luo Bo said.

Yao Zhi swallowed her food and replied, ”I don’t know how to ride a horse.”

For someone as pampered as her, it was normal if she didn’t know how to ride a horse. After a moment of thought, Luo Bo asked, ”Then, should we rent a carriage?”

Horses and oxen were expensive, and most of the carriages used in this era were pulled by donkeys.

According to the historical record, mules did exist in this era but were viewed as exotic animals, as they were tributes to the Emperor. She didn’t know if this world had the same situation as the history in her previous world or not.

She thought for a moment and said, ”There is no need to rent a carriage. We have horses, and I can sit on that cart.”

When they heard this, everyone was stunned. After a moment of silence, Luo Bo finally agreed, ”Then, we will prepare the cart.”

Looking at the brightened sky, Yao Zhi said, ”Let’s depart after breakfast.”

”Okay.”

After breakfast, Yao Zhi returned to her room to change her clothes.

Thinking about how plain the meal the bodyguards ate, she opened the system shop and bought twenty kilograms of fatty meat for two hundred forty points.

Besides meat, she also bought twenty kilograms of vegetables for sixty points, two kilograms of salt for forty points, and two kilograms of sugar for forty points. When she was done, she packed everything into a hemp sack.

When she came out, she handed the sack to Da Zhu and left with five guards. The rest of the guards were left to guard the warehouse.

Although she used a cart, it was pulled by a horse, so it was as fast as a carriage. Due to the warehouse’s location, they reached the General’s mansion in less than an hour.

When they stopped outside the mansion, the soldiers guarding the entrance stared at them, and one of them said, ”This is the General’s mansion. You can’t park your cart here!”

Hearing this, Luo Bo walked over, cupped his fists, and said, ”Greetings, Sir. My young master is here to donate grains. Can you please inform the one in charge?”

The moment the soldiers heard this, they exchanged glances, and one of them said, ”Wait here, I will go inform the steward.”

While the soldier went inside, Yao Zhi came down from the cart and waited with her bodyguards. Ten minutes later, the soldier returned with a middle-aged man.

When he saw them, the man cupped his fists and said, ”Greetings, everyone. My surname is Han, and I’m the General Mansion’s steward.”

Yao Zhi and her bodyguards returned his greetings. ”Steward Han, my name is Lei Feng. I’m sorry for visiting without any notice.”
