Chapter 34: Donating Grains ( 3 )

Wiping her sweat, Yao Zhi observed the surroundings and noticed two small patches of vegetables. Compared to her vegetables, these vegetables looked wilted and yellowish.

”Dalang, Sanlang, come and help me weigh the grains,” the village chief shouted as he walked into the house.

When he returned with a piece of yellow paper, two men followed him.

The moment they saw Yao Zhi, surprise flashed in their eyes. As the village chief’s sons, they knew everyone in this village, including the new family members of the soldiers.

They looked at her and realized that they had never seen her before. Feeling curious, Yang Sanlang pointed at Yao Zhi and asked, ”Aunt Wang, is this your niece?”

Wang Shen chuckled at his words and replied, ”This is Squad Leader Fu’s wife, Yao Zhi.”

The moment they heard this, everyone was shocked. They couldn’t believe this girl was the same person as the arrogant and ugly fatty.

Seeing their reactions, Wang Wuniang understood their feelings. After all, she, too, couldn’t believe it. If not for her mother-in-law telling her about Yao Zhi’s situation, she would never have recognized her.

Recalling her encounter with Yao Zhi near the military barracks, Wang Wuniang glared at her with resentment.

Since she recognized her, she should have told her the truth. Instead of telling her, Yao Zhi made fun of her. Just thinking about it made her feel embarrassed and hate her more.

Suddenly receiving a glare from Wang Wuniang, Yao Zhi sighed in her heart. She suddenly transmigrated into this strange world and had to carry the sins of the original body. No matter who it was, they wouldn’t be happy at all.

”Alright, let’s not waste any more time. The General is waiting for these grains,” the village chief suddenly said, breaking the silence.

With his words, Yang Dalang and Yang Sanlang came back to their senses. Feeling embarrassed for staring at another man’s wife for too long, they quickly averted their gazes and focused on weighing the grains.

Ten minutes later, Yang Dalang said, ”Father, the Xiao family donated five dan grains. The Fu family donated ten dan grains.”

The village chief nodded and recorded their donation in the book before he said, ”After we send these grains over, we will inform your family. We don’t know if we can get anything, so don’t put your hopes too high.”

”Village chief, we understand. We didn’t do this for any reward. My son is fighting on the border; I only hope that we can help lessen the General’s burden and save the soldiers’ lives,” Wang Shen nodded.

”It’s good if you have this thought,” the village chief said.

”Then we won’t bother you any longer, Village chief,” Wang Shen nodded.

Now that the carts were empty, it was faster for them to reach their homes. Before Wang Shen returned to her home, she turned to Yao Zhi and said, ”Yao girl, don’t worry too much. Your husband is blessed; he will be fine.”

”I understand. Thank you, Aunt Wang,” Yao Zhi nodded.

Since they still had work to do, Wang Shen and her family left after some words. When she was alone, Yao Zhi continued washing her clothes. While she worked, she thought about the situation in this era.

Being born and growing up under the protection of her country, she had never experienced famine, let alone war. All her knowledge about war came from historical records or dramas.

Even so, she was still unable to imagine how bad the situation was that the General had to beg for donations.

With her current points, she was able to buy a lot of grains. But for a commoner to own so much grain, it would definitely make people suspicious. So if she wanted to donate more grains, she had to disguise herself.

With this thought, she quickly finished hanging the clothes and went to her room.

Inside her room, Yao Zhi opened her system shop and browsed the makeup selections. In her previous world, the makeup technique was developing rapidly.

Not only had they invented tape and paste that could alter people’s faces, but some brands had even invented a mask made of silicon that looked similar to a real face.

Since her makeup skill was limited, Yao Zhi decided to buy the silicon mask and silicon suit instead. She browsed for a while before she finally decided on a young man’s mask.

The face was ordinary and could be easily missed in the crowd. While the quality of the mask was very good, it cost her twenty thousand points.

Besides the mask, she also bought a suit made of breathable silicon to cover her woman’s figure. The suit cost her another twenty thousand points. Then, she bought a pair of insoles, a pair of men’s cloth shoes, and a man’s Hanfu, costing her one hundred ten points.

When she was done, Yao Zhi quickly took a simple bath and changed into the human suit. At first, she thought that she would feel stifled. Unexpectedly, while the material was similar to silicon, it was actually cool and similar to cotton.

After she wore the suit, she touched her chest and felt firm but soft muscles. ”With this suit, no one will know my true identity,” she muttered happily.

Adding to the loose robes worn in this era, she now looked like a young man instead of a girl. After she tied up her hair into a high ponytail, she wore the mask.

The mask covered not only her face but also her neck. When she raised her head, Yao Zhi touched an Adam’s apple on her throat. As she swallowed, her fake Adam’s apple also moved.

Satisfied with the quality of the mask, she smiled and said, ”The price did indeed reflect the quality. It’s worth every point!”

Before leaving, Yao Zhi locked the house and went to check the situation outside. After she was sure that no one would see her, she quickly left the house through the backyard.
