50 Chapter 50: The day of the contract 2026-10-29

Still sitting in the library’s hard chair, I spent several seconds staring at the closed books before me.

My Biochip had already finished digitizing all of them.

It was only a tiny fraction of the knowledge that existed in this world...

But it was enough that I was no longer completely ignorant.

I stood up, straightened my robe, and carefully stacked the books.

After returning them to the librarian, I walked through the library’s heavy wooden doors.

The moment I stepped into the corridor...

I realized something was wrong.

There was far more activity than usual.

Acolytes hurried along the halls.

Some were whispering among themselves.

The atmosphere resembled a beehive after someone had thrown a stone into it.

I frowned.

— What the hell is going on here?

I made my way through the small crowd.

A skinny young man with dark skin and green eyes turned toward me.

His face was visibly tense.

— Haven’t you heard?

I shook my head.

— I just came out of the library.

He took a deep breath.

— Master Lucius’s experiment escaped.

My expression didn’t change.

— And why is that a problem?

— The experiment killed an Acolyte right after escaping from the laboratory.

My heart seemed to skip a beat.

”...”

Even though I kept my face calm...

That genuinely caught me off guard.

— Holy shit...

Before I could ask anything else...

BANG!!

Violent pounding echoed through the corridor.

Everyone turned in the same direction.

A man’s voice shouted angrily.

— Ruby!

— Open this door immediately!

Ruby?

I slowly raised an eyebrow.

My first thought was immediate.

Could it be...?

Could it be the same Ruby I had met in Eduard’s market?

He had said that a mage had bought her for experiments.

He had also said she was probably already dead.

But...

A small part of me still wanted to believe he had been wrong.

I discreetly glanced around.

Several doors were slightly ajar.

Their occupants watched everything in silence.

No one seemed willing to get involved.

Then an idea occurred to me.

It wouldn’t be wise to remain completely exposed while trying to understand what was happening.

I needed an observation point.

My eyes settled on a hand resting in the crack of a nearby door.

Its owner was watching the commotion without noticing my presence.

I issued a mental command.

— Biochip.

— Analyze that Acolyte’s hand.

[Beep!]

[STATUS]

Name: Unknown

Level: First-Level Acolyte

Sex: Male

Age: 18

[Physical Status]

Strength: 1.6

Agility: 1.3

Vigor: 1.0

Mana: 1

I gave a subtle nod.

He was significantly weaker than I was.

Without making a scene, I walked over to the door.

I pushed it open.

It swung wide.

The young man, who had dragged a chair over to the entrance to watch the hallway, widened his eyes in shock.

His chair scraped backward.

— Hey!

— You’ve got the wrong room!

I smiled calmly.

— I don’t think so.

Before he could stand up or call for help...

I took a quick step forward.

In one smooth motion, I clamped a hand over his mouth and used my other hand to shove him back into the chair, preventing any resistance.

He struggled for only a moment.

— Relax.

I spoke in a low voice.

— I’m not here to rob you.

— Or hurt you.

— I just need to observe the hallway for a few minutes.

— If you cooperate, I’ll leave without taking a single thing.

He went still, breathing heavily through his nose.

I waited a few seconds.

When I realized he understood, I slowly removed my hand.

The young man swallowed hard, far too frightened to react.

I took the key hanging beside the door.

I locked it from the inside.

Then I silently walked over to the keyhole.

I tilted my head slightly.

And began watching everything that was happening outside.

If that experiment really was Ruby...

I’d find out in just a few moments.

I recognized the man standing in front of the door immediately.

Ravi.

One of the best-known apprentices in the field of Magical Skinning.

His name had been circulating throughout the Tower for quite some time.

Besides his talent, he was famous for never going anywhere alone.

He always had two followers with him.

Otto.

Tall, muscular, and possessed of an explosive temper.

And Gael.

Smaller in stature, but far more calculating, always looking for ways to take advantage of every situation.

At that moment, Ravi seemed to have completely run out of patience.

His brow was furrowed.

His fingers tapped impatiently against the wand hanging from his belt.

He stared at the closed door for several seconds.

Then he took a deep breath.

From the way his shoulders shifted, I immediately understood what he intended to do.

He’s going to break it down...

Before he could even touch the doorknob...

Creeeak...

The door slowly opened.

The entire corridor fell silent.

My breathing stopped for a moment.

A young woman appeared in the doorway.

She wore a long red dress made of simple fabric, yet perfectly fitted to her figure.

Her black hair flowed all the way to her waist.

Her posture radiated an almost arrogant confidence.

She lifted her chin slightly.

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

Her voice was soft.

At the same time elegant...

And strangely threatening.

— So...

— It was Apprentice Chief Ravi who was looking for this Empress?

I slowly raised my eyebrows.

”...”

No...

The girl I had known was completely different.

She wasn’t a drop-dead gorgeous mature beauty.

But the detail that truly caught my attention...

Was her eyes.

Red.

An intense crimson, like rubies glowing from within.

They seemed to emit a faint radiance that made anyone hesitate before meeting them directly.

And that smile...

A delicate smile, yet one filled with something dangerous.

She was breathtaking...

And terrifying at the same time.

The corridor remained completely motionless for several long seconds.

I could see from their eyes that their thoughts had wandered straight into the darkest, most primitive corners of their minds.

Every one of them began drooling like wolves staring at raw meat.

—She’s gorgeous!

—Let’s rape her right here.

Almost everyone was captivated.

—Shall we have a gangbang and defile this MILF?

—I want to fill her womb with my cum!

But Ravi...

Was different.

He took a deep breath.

Blinking several times.

And managed to break free from the magical enchantment.

Even so...

It was impossible to hide the shock written across his face.

He took two steps back.

His hand slowly moved toward his waist, ready to draw his wand if necessary.

His voice was steady.

— Who are you?

— State your name.

— Now!!!

For a brief moment...

He fell silent.

It was obvious that his mind was racing.

Then his eyes narrowed.

— Wait...

—You came out of the exact room where the lolita Ruby went in just a few minutes ago...

He remained staring at the young woman.

His expression shifted from suspicion...

To utter disbelief.

— But...

— How is this possible?

— Ruby...

— Is that you?

The moment Ravi spoke the name Ruby...

Her reaction was immediate.

The woman’s delicate smile vanished.

Her expression twisted in an unnatural way.

The corners of her mouth slowly stretched outward, forming a grin far too wide for any human face.

A chill ran down my spine.

— I am now Empress Ruby!

The next instant...

Two black horns burst through the skin of her forehead, curving backward like demonic crowns.

Zzzzt!

She vanished.

No.

She had simply become too fast for my eyes to follow.

All I saw was a crimson blur streaking through the corridor.

BAM!

The impact echoed through the stone walls.

By the time my eyes managed to track her again...

She was already standing in front of Ravi.

Her hand had broken through his hastily raised defense.

The force of the collision hurled him violently into the wall.

The stone trembled.

Ravi let out a muffled grunt as he struggled to regain his balance.

But Ruby was faster and bit down hard.

The bite was savage.

The sound of flesh tearing and the heavy rush of blood were unmistakable.

Half of Ravi’s neck was gone within seconds, exposing mangled flesh and a shattered windpipe.

Whooosh~~

Blood erupted like a fountain, splattering the walls, the floor, and even the young woman herself.

The corridor descended into chaos, and those who could run fled.

Ravi didn’t have time to chant a spell with his magic wand, so with swift movements, he pulled a strange device from his belt.

My eyes lit up in recognition.

Red Fire Moon.

It was a portable magical weapon.

Its core consisted of a red crystal surrounded by several stabilization runes.

The metal grip contained small mechanisms that regulated the energy discharge.

At its base was a cylindrical reservoir filled with refined magic crystals that served as fuel.

Ravi activated the mechanism.

The runes lit up instantly.

An intense crimson light illuminated the corridor.

BANG!

A scarlet beam shot across the space between them.

The blast made the air tremble.

Ruby was struck head-on.

A massive hole appeared in her chest.

Her body was hurled several meters backward, crashing through part of the wall before falling amid the rubble.

Her red dress was partially charred.

A thin trail of smoke rose from the point of impact.

The smell of scorched stone and burnt fabric quickly spread through the corridor.

An attack of that level should have been enough to kill practically any Acolyte.

But...

She moved again.

Slowly.

First one arm.

Then the other.

Finally, she raised her head.

Her crimson eyes continued glowing exactly as before.

Without the slightest trace of fear.

Without the slightest expression of pain.

As though that attack had been nothing more than a minor annoyance.

Without wasting a second, Ravi dropped the now-spent magical weapon and reached for his belt.

He pulled out a small glass vial, little larger than a clenched fist.

The liquid inside emitted a soft glow.

I recognized it immediately.

Critical Regeneration Potion.
