The Ultimate Evolution

The contestants spent three more days on Alps Base 7. They would all have to go their separate ways soon. Aldaris was still unconscious, so only Sheyan and Ronnie were present to bid each other goodbye.

Ronnie’s feeling toward Sheyan was complicated. It was a mix of hatred (not only was he made into a human tilting doll, he was also threatened to be turned into an eunuch tilting doll), fear, gratitude, admiration and some other emotions. For a while, he did not know what to say.

Sheyan looked up at the busy cargo ships flying around like locusts in the sky, and finally rested his eyes on the orange flame at the tail of a ship. After a while, he turned to Ronnie and smiled.

“Is your Blood Weapon done?”

“Of course.” Ronnie snorted. ” If only I had this weapon before this…the Arbitrator would have died in my hands!”

Ronnie knew he would probably never come across Sheyan anymore after this, so he very generously shared the properties of his weapon with Sheyan because there was no more conflict of interest. Sheyan realised after checking out Ronnie’s weapon that the Blood Equipment that were sold to reserve-duty ranks had a wide range in quality.

The ‘All-Conquering Might’ that Sheyan got before was already a top-quality weapon in his eyes, but it could not compare at all to the weapon tailor-made for Ronnie.

Ronnie’s weapon was in the form of a one-handed shortblade. In Ronnie’s hand, it looked insubstantial like it was made of ice and light, but it also gave off a feeling of incomparable sharpness, as if it was piercing through the boundaries of time and space!

This one-handed shortblade also had a rare property: ‘Sharp’, which increased explosive hit rate by 10%. Furthermore, every time an explosive hit occurred, the damage inflicted was four times the normal damage (it was usually two times)!

Another property was that after cutting the enemy, it would secrete a special poison into the enemy’s body, forcibly reducing the healing effect on the enemy by 50% for a certain period of time. If the victim was a contestant, the reduction in healing effect was increased to 75%. If a medicine which healed by a certain proportion like the Honorary Dosage was used, it would only heal 25% of HP by default.

Sheyan could not help expressing his admiration for Ronnie’s weapon. However, Ronnie told Sheyan with regret in his voice that he must find a way to turn his military rank into an official rank. Sheyan could not help asking why.

Ronnie honestly told Sheyan the reason. It turned out that the ‘Sharp’ effect on his weapon was already the peak among the properties that an individual piece Blood Weapon could have. There was no more property better than this one for him.

However, he happened to see a terrifying property for official rank Blood Weapons called ‘God’s Favour’. When attacking an enemy, there was a chance to receive God’s favour; all attacks in the next five seconds would definitely hit the enemy, and every strike in the duration would be an explosive hit!

Sheyan was stunned to hear of an insane effect like that. If it was matched with a gunman with fast firing rate….hundreds of sure-fire shots in five seconds that were all guaranteed to be explosive hits! Could anyone survive that?

Having found a common topic of interest, the awkward atmosphere between the two men gradually dissolved. They began to get more immersed in their talk. However, both of their spacecrafts had already been waiting for a long time; it was impossible to stay any longer.

However, right before they said goodbye, Ronnie could not help saying, “I hope I won’t see you again.”

“Why?” asked Sheyan, perplexed.

Ronnie sighed. “The chances of us being assigned together again for honorary missions are slim, so if I ever see you again, it’ll probably be in a Bloody Battlefield, where we’ll have to kill each other at all costs…. Bloody hell, being your enemy would not be fun at all!”

Sheyan laughed. “Well, you might not necessarily lose. For a long time after we landed on Uplos, didn’t you choose to be my enemy too? And now, besides me, you’re the only one who returned safe and sound.”

Ronnie grinned wryly. He waved at Sheyan and had already walked a few steps away, but he turned around again and said with some hesitation, “You…you’re the most perceptive person I’ve ever met. Can I ask you a question? I believe your judgment will be fair and accurate now that we no longer have any interests involved between us.”

Next, Ronnie told Sheyan a story somewhat similar to Zeus and Zi, but Ronnie fortunately succeeded, so they were both still in the same party. What was unfortunate was that the woman had actually used the same tactic on several core members, so Ronnie could be said to have been cheated on repeatedly. No wonder he was feeling so tortured. He had a mind to leave the party, but he simply could not let go.

After listening to Ronnie’s story, Sheyan said to him, “Can you accept a woman who maintains multiple sexual relationships with other men as your wife?”

Ronnie smiled bitterly and shook his head. “I can’t.”

Sheyan burst into laughter. “If that’s the case, then she won’t be your wife. That means she’s someone else’s wife. Don’t you feel great getting to cheat with another person’s wife every day in the same party?”

“What….What kind of logic is that?” Ronnie was stunned.

Sheyan smiled. “My advice is not to leave the party because you obviously don’t have the will and ability to let go yet. But, you better adjust your mentality quick, or you’re probably gonna die in the Realm.”

Ronnie pondered for a while and thanked Sheyan in the end.

Gazing after Ronnie’s receding figure, Sheyan suddenly fell into deep contemplation because he suddenly thought of his own problem, and Zi’s! It’s hard to say if she knew about the relationship between Melody and himself, and if she did, what was her thoughts right now? Would she pretend to be ignorant of the matter, or would she be like Ronnie, slowly accumulating her feelings and exploding in a sudden manner?

Ronnie must be an indispensable part of his party, and Sheyan had also invested an unbelievable amount of effort and fortune in Zi. If Zi wanted to leave, it would be a really severe blow to Party Ace which did not have a lot of members! When he thought of this, Sheyan immediately made up his mind to tie Zi down with him at all costs. Sheyan had his own principles, but this did not mean that he would always follow the rules when doing things….

While thinking of all this, Sheyan boarded the ship that would send him back. He then saw the person who would be escorting him back. It was still Archer.

This guy was now very appreciated by Mungo and had been promoted twice in succession. He was now responsible for managing the maintenance of the whole base despite being a mere Captain. Very soon, he would be able to take the test to be a senior technical engineer. Archer had always had the ability, what he lacked before was a chance. Now, his time had come. Sheyan did not expect Archer to still have the time to send him back.

Of course, the status of Sheyan, who had returned with a large amount of Pi element ingots, was no longer the same as before. No one dared to look at him like he was an inferior species anymore. Of course, Sheyan would not refuse the chance to spend the journey together with Archer, a familiar fellow who was rather pleasant.

As for Archer, this mysterious and powerful man in front of him was his lucky star. He had constantly been in good luck after meeting Sheyan, so of course he would look to further strengthen their bond. When Sheyan saw Archer, he suddenly thought of something. He pointed at the cabin, apparently asking if there were any monitoring devices. Archer laughed.

“There are, but they all have to go through me in the end, so confidentiality is not a problem.”

After giving it some thought, Sheyan took out two Pi element ingots and threw them to the stunned Archer.

“My ‘Major General’s Blood Armour’ is being made. If you can, please help me keep a close eye on it. Also, please help me keep a look out for any unfavourable news. But you don’t have to do anything, just focus on climbing the ranks. That’ll be the greatest reward for me.”

Archer had heard of this kind of thing before as it was rather common in the alliance. It’s called a political donation. However, he never imagined that it would ever happen to him, and such a huge amount of wealth it was too!

He wanted to say something but found that Sheyan had already closed his eyes to get some sleep. It did not take long for them to reach the vicinity of his Nightmare Realm. For some reason, looking at this ugly, gigantic, terrible and weird super-sized object from afar, Sheyan felt an indescribable sense of familiarity. He had never felt this feeling of admiration with a hint of awe before.

As soon as he returned to the Realm, although he had already contacted the people in his party, the first thing Sheyan did was to have the Pi element ingots appraised. Who knows, he might be able to sell them to the Realm for a good price.

But the appraisal result which came back almost instantaneously left Sheyan speechless.

[ This is a kind of low-level, out-of-date element which was once widely used but was eventually banned completely because it has great negative effects. It is of no value to the Realm. ]

W…What!!!

Sheyan suddenly found that many things could be explained now. All the puzzle pieces fit.

Why was Pi element so scarce?

Because before the humans, another civilization, the one which created the Nightmare Realms, had already exploited it on a large scale. That was why it became so scarce even for the far-reaching Empire.

But why did planet Uplos escape from the clutches of that civilization?

From the fact that Sheyan actually saw a Cyclops, which was supposed to exist in Greek mythology, on Uplos, the planet may very well be a result of the erosion and overlapping of multiple parallel dimensions. It probably materialised from another plane, and not an original product of this plane!
