The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 374: Chapter 336: Heavy Casualties

Dawn was breaking.

The night had completely faded.

The streets were still deserted, save for the occasional sanitation worker out cleaning up trash.

Lin Yi and Wei Nan left the school and rushed straight for the Demon Hunting Institute.

The two of them didn’t stop, using their respective Body Techniques.

About twenty minutes later, they arrived at the Demon Hunting Institute.

The place was a complete mess.

The ground was littered with the bodies of black-clothed men, lying askew.

Mo Yanfeng, Cui Ya, and Xia Shiyu were standing among the corpses.

Every one of them was wounded.

Especially Cui Ya and Xia Shiyu; it was impossible to tell whose blood was on their faces.

”Lin Yi? Wei Nan? What are you two doing here?”

When Mo Yanfeng saw the two of them, he asked in surprise.

Lin Yi hurried over. ”Brother Mo, I was worried about you all. Are you okay?”

Hearing this, Mo Yanfeng smiled. ”Are you worried about me, or are you worried about Qin Zhaoxue?”

”Uh... Both!”

Lin Yi gave an awkward laugh, and Mo Yanfeng clapped him on the shoulder.

”Don’t worry, we’re all fine!”

”Luckily, we used that move you suggested. We pretended to leave, then immediately doubled back!”

”Those guys really did launch a sneak attack during the night!”

”No one was inside the Institute. We were all lying in ambush in the surrounding area. They lost a lot of men. As soon as they retreated, Captain Chu took Qin Zhaoxue, Chen Shuang, and the others to the Public Security Bureau and the Left Guard!”

”Is your school okay?”

Lin Yi nodded. ”All the men in black have retreated!”

”You, don’t you worry. The Left Guard has Meng Die and the others defending it, plus Shan Kui, Wei Shang, and Feng Lei. Nothing major will happen there!”

”The Public Security Bureau might be in a bit more trouble, but it shouldn’t be anything too serious!”

”If you’re really that worried, go and check it out!”

”However, we received news earlier that the Medical Bureau was also attacked!”

”I just don’t know if your cousin, Tang Qinru, is in Songshan. If she was also...”

Before Mo Yanfeng could finish speaking.

Lin Yi suddenly realized. ”My sister... Brother Mo, let me borrow the motorcycle!”

”Wei Nan, go to the Public Security Bureau and see if you can help. I’m going to the Medical Bureau first!”

Mo Yanfeng nodded and handed Lin Yi the keys to Chu Zhengxiong’s motorcycle.

After getting the keys, he hopped on the motorcycle and sped toward the Medical Bureau.

Wei Nan scratched his head. ”He’s always so reckless, not steady at all!”

”Brother Mo, I’ll head to the Public Security Bureau then!”

”Go on. Once I’m done here, I’ll come find you.”

Wei Nan nodded and also hurried toward the Public Security Bureau.

On the way to the Medical Bureau, Lin Yi repeatedly tried calling his sister’s phone.

I’m sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later...

He tried several more times, only to be met with the same cold, automated message.

Lin Yi’s heart grew more and more anxious.

The roar of the motorcycle echoed far and wide as if he were tearing up the street.

The sky had only just fully brightened.

Many people were still asleep in their homes, and Lin Yi was probably going to wake quite a few of them with his ride.

But he couldn’t worry about that right now.

He raced like the wind and arrived at the Medical Bureau.

From a distance, he saw many bodies being carried outside.

Each stretcher was covered with a white sheet.

Blood had soaked through the white sheets, making for a particularly stark sight.

When he rode his motorcycle closer, he jumped off before it even came to a full stop.

He ran toward the medical personnel.

He began uncovering the white-sheeted bodies one by one.

When he confirmed it wasn’t his sister, he let out a long sigh of relief.

Then, his heart in his throat, he moved to the next body. He repeated this process, uncovering more than a dozen white sheets, but didn’t find his sister among them.

The medical staff, however, were not happy.

”Hey, what are you doing? Don’t interfere with our work!”

Lin Yi looked up at them. ”I’m looking for someone. Is Tang Qinru here?”

”Who? Director Tang? She’s inside!”

A medical worker said, pointing at the Medical Bureau.

Lin Yi glanced back, then immediately rushed into the Medical Bureau.

”Hey! Who are you? You can’t just barge in there...”

Just as Lin Yi entered the lobby, he was stopped by several medical workers.

A tragedy had just occurred here last night.

It caused numerous casualties. The Medical Bureau wasn’t like other places.

There weren’t many combat personnel here.

Facing an attack from a large number of men in black, they were completely unable to defend themselves.

Therefore, most of the dead and injured were the Medical Bureau’s medical staff or security guards.

This also led to the complete paralysis of the Medical Bureau.

So many medical personnel had been killed.

The Medical Bureau couldn’t continue to operate as usual.

So when they saw Lin Yi bursting in, they quickly stopped him.

Just as Lin Yi was about to force his way through...

A woman’s voice called out, ”Lin Yi? What are you doing here?”

Lin Yi froze and quickly turned to look.

He saw a person in a white coat, their mask pulled down to their chin.

They held a cap in their hand, and their body was stained crimson with blood.

This person was none other than Lin Yi’s cousin, Tang Qinru.

He hurried over and looked her up and down several times.

”Seriously, what are you doing?”

Tang Qinru couldn’t help but say with a smile.

Lin Yi’s eyes gradually reddened. ”Sis, are you okay?”

”What could happen to me? Did you come from the school? Is your school okay?”

Tang Qinru asked with a smile.

Lin Yi quickly shook his head. ”The school’s fine. I was just worried about you!”

”The Medical Bureau was attacked last night, and I was afraid something had happened to you, so I...”

Before he could finish, Tang Qinru couldn’t help but laugh.

”You silly boy, couldn’t you have just called to ask? I went home last night. I wasn’t on duty. It was a blessing in disguise, I suppose. I dodged a bullet!”

”But many of my colleagues who were on duty last night fell victim to them!”

Tang Qinru’s expression darkened as she glanced at the bodies.

The Medical Bureau suffered the heaviest losses last night.

They were all physicians and Alchemists, not combat-oriented professions.

They could save lives and heal the wounded, but how could they be a match for those men in black in a fight?

As a result, the men in black met with little resistance and charged right in.

A night of slaughter resulted in the loss of over a dozen physicians and Alchemists, more than twenty nurses, and dozens of patients. The men in black spared no one.

They were all massacred.

After this disaster, the Songshan City Medical Bureau would probably have to suspend operations and reorganize.

After all, with so many people killed, there was no way to continue business.

”I don’t care about anyone else, as long as you’re okay!”

”Besides, I did call you, but your phone was off the whole time!”

”Was it?”

Tang Qinru took out her phone to look.

Then, she lightly smacked her forehead and said, ”I forgot, I forgot. After I got home last night, my phone was about to die, so I turned it off and plugged it in to charge. It wasn’t until they called my home landline this morning that I found out what had happened!”

As she spoke, Tang Qinru turned her phone on.

As it turned out, it wasn’t just Lin Yi who had called.

There were also over a dozen missed calls from the director and chief of the Medical Bureau, as well as from Tang Baichuan.

”This one’s on me. I completely forgot about my phone!”

”Wait here a second, I need to return a few calls!”

After saying that, Tang Qinru walked toward an empty corner to the side.

After confirming his sister was really okay,

Lin Yi’s mind was no longer on the matter here.

He walked over, made a few hand gestures to Tang Qinru, and quietly left the Medical Bureau.

Just as he got on the motorcycle, Tang Qinru hurried out after him.

”Where are you going?”

”Going to check on the other places. Sis, you go on with your work. Don’t worry about me!”

With that, Lin Yi twisted the throttle, and the motorcycle let out a roar.

He could see Tang Qinru’s lips moving, but he couldn’t hear what she was saying.

And just like that, he was gone, speeding away.

Only then did Tang Qinru let out a soft sigh and shake her head.

”He just left my side. Yes, it’s good that your school is okay. What? My mom? You can’t reach her either?”

Tang Qinru’s expression changed again.

On the other end of the line was, unmistakably, the voice of Tang Baichuan.

”The Medical Bureau was attacked, so the Weapon Workshop will definitely be attacked too!”

”But the main Weapon Bureau is in Fengcheng. I don’t know if she’s at the Workshop or if she went back to the Bureau!”

”Never mind, don’t you worry about these things. Just protect yourself. I’ll arrange my work here and then go check in person. I’ll call you again once I’ve confirmed she’s safe!”

After Tang Baichuan finished speaking, Tang Qinru’s heart grew even more anxious.

After a moment of thought, she continued, ”Come pick me up. I’ll go with you!”

”You’re coming too? Alright, then we’ll go check together!”

Tang Baichuan was overjoyed.

So many years had passed since he and Yi Xiaoying had divorced.

Tang Qinru had never ridden in his car again, and the father and daughter had never truly spent any quality time together.

Ironically, this incident might be a chance to improve their relationship.

’If I could get Yi Xiaoying’s forgiveness too, that would be even better...’

After hanging up the phone, Tang Baichuan’s face was filled with excitement.

He called Old Qiao over. ”For now, handle things at the school yourself. I have to go out for a bit!”

”Go out? Where?” Old Qiao said, a bit confused.

Tang Baichuan could barely contain the smile on his face.

”Just now, Qinru said she wants to go with me to find Xiaoying. I’m driving over to pick her up!”

Hearing this, Old Qiao nodded, also somewhat surprised.

”That’s great news! If you two can get back together, the Old Master will be happy when he finds out!”

”Leave the school’s affairs to me. You don’t have to worry!”

”Seize this opportunity and make the most of it!”

Tang Baichuan smiled and nodded, giving Old Qiao a few more instructions.

He then hurried back to his office to change clothes before personally driving straight for the Medical Bureau.

「Public Security Bureau.」

A night of chaos and battle.

The situation at the Public Security Bureau was the most tragic of all.

The Public Security Bureau’s three hundred-plus officers had all prepared for battle in advance.

In the end, the casualties exceeded two hundred.

The remaining one hundred or so officers had only survived by a stroke of luck.

Chu Zhengxiong, Qin Zhaoxue, Wei Nan, and Chen Shuang were all here, busy as could be.

One could even see some staff from the Medical Bureau in their white coats.

They had all come over to help carry the bodies.

Besides them, Lin Yi also saw that Meng Die and Wei Shang had come over as well.

”Sigh, we were too careless!”

”I really thought the Public Security Bureau’s three hundred-plus men would be enough to withstand the assault from those men in black!”

”Who would have thought... damn it, over two hundred died, and the rest are all wounded to some degree!”

”This loss is just too devastating!”

Chu Zhengxiong shook his head with a sigh, taking a drag from his cigarette.

Lin Yi glanced at him but said nothing.

The air here was thick with the stench of blood, and the ground looked as if it had been washed in it.

Body after body was being carried out.

The road outside was almost full.

The catastrophic losses at the Public Security Bureau were greater than the rest of Songshan City combined.

Meng Die glanced at him. ”You don’t have to blame yourself. This isn’t your fault.”

”Who could have expected those people to split up into several waves of attacks? But the casualties they suffered are even more severe than ours!”

Chu Zhengxiong took a deep drag from his cigarette and nodded. ”If you put it that way, I feel a little better.”
