Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 458: Eruption

*Bam!*

An earth-shattering sound traveled through the sky, forcing all of them to cover their ears instinctively.

”Kh.” Nathan gritted his teeth and turned around, looking at the sky. ”Whatʼs going on?”

”An enemy attack?” Selena looked worried.

”The sound is so loud…”

”I donʼt know whatʼs happening…”

Nathanʼs expression turned solemn. He could hear the people panicking outside, wondering the same thing.

He bit his lips and said, ”Iʼll take a look outside.”

”Weʼll follow you.”

Nathan looked worried, but he wasnʼt aware of what happened. If it was an attack, it would be better if they were to stick together because he could protect them.

Nathan nodded. ”Sure. Letʼs go.”

Nathan summoned Nidhogg while shouting, ”Nidhogg. Go up. Weʼll check the surrounding area.”

Nidhogg immediately took off as Nathan summoned Jinwu.

”Jinwu. Check in that direction. There was a loud sound coming from that direction. If we couldnʼt find anything within five minutes of flying, it would be better to go back.” Nathan explained.

To their surprise, there was nothing they could see in that direction, even though they had been flying for two minutes. He sent Jinwu forward because if there were powerful summoners, they wouldnʼt think much of Jinwu, as he looked like a normal crow from afar.

However, Nathan was wrong. All of a sudden, the earth-shattering sound once again shook the sky.

”!!!” Nathanʼs expression turned grim.

”The sound wave is traveling so fast…” Nidhogg turned his head around as if trying to follow the sound wave.

On the other hand, Jinwu returned to Nathan and explained, ”Iʼm afraid we should stop here. If there is indeed someone capable of producing such a sound, going there will result in our death.

”Although Iʼm curious, itʼs better to survive. We better head back to the village if not go back to the Frexia Academy right now,” explained Jinwu.

Nathan bit his lips. He fell into deep thought, wondering what he should do. On the one hand, Jinwuʼs advice was reasonable. On the other hand, there was something that bothered him. This sound was a bit weird, but he couldnʼt recall any information about it.

”Summoner!” Jinwu raised his voice as if he wanted to reprimand Nathan. Yet the sound wave once again shook the sky, which startled them. ”Tsk.”

”Nidhogg. Hurry up and bring them back.”

”Yeah. I agree.” Nidhogg nodded and turned around, not bothering to wait for Nathanʼs order.

One more time, the sound rang in the sky, which caused them even more panic, believing that there was such a powerful summoner.

”Are we going to die or something?” Selena frowned.

”Iʼm not sure.” Jinwu shook his head. ”Thereʼs something weird about this sound wave. How do I say this… The sound wave is coming at the same interval, making me wonder if itʼs the same sound or not…”

”Same sound?” Nathan widened his eyes in shock, as though he remembered something. ”Thatʼs right. Itʼs the freaking same sound.”

”What? Do you know anything?” Selena blinked her eyes a few times.

Instead of answering, Nathan looked down and fell into deep thought.

ʼWhat kind of thing can produce a sound so loud and powerful that it can travel the world multiple times? Is it related to the earthquake? Volcano?

ʼIs there a volcanic eruption… there is… I think Iʼve heard or read this somewhere. After a certain novel used a volcanic eruption as a trope, I couldnʼt help but try to understand it a bit better to see if the author was bullshitting or not.

ʼThatʼs right. I think I heard about it from the Play Button Tube about such a volcanic eruption. It was only surface-level information since I only used 8 minutes of my life to watch the video.

ʼThere was one volcanic eruption from Indonesia that was so loud that the sound traveled around the world three or four times. How about the impact? Ash?

ʼI donʼt think it gave that information, but there was one eruption in the same century and in the same country. It was said that this volcanic eruption spewed so much ash into the atmosphere that that year is known as the year without a summer.

ʼWas the volcanic eruption similar to this one? The earthquake itself was quite huge, and it spread without anyone knowing the location.

ʼIf thatʼs the case, this is going to be hard. Is there any other possibility? A supervolcano?

ʼNow that I think about it, there is one more volcano from that same country… poor country getting bullied by volcanoes… Anyway, this supervolcano spews so much ash into the air that it basically covers the sky, preventing the sunlight from reaching the ground.

ʼAs a result, the temperature decreases sharply. It should create a mini ice age lasting for a few years to a decade.

ʼIf this is the case, the situation is much more dire than I originally thought. I just hope…ʼ Nathan suddenly stopped when he recalled a certain dream.

It was the dream he had before this trip. A dream of him fighting against a lot of elite class aliens after climbing a small cliff.

In that dream, he remembered that the world was so cold and dark. More importantly, it rained ash.

ʼIs that not a dream but a premonition? The world is going to get covered by ash. And my master once told me about more dangerous aliens living deep in the alienʼs territory.

ʼIf thatʼs the case, having a lot more elite class aliens is pretty understandable.

ʼI canʼt imagine the impact this eruption can bring. I have read a lot of ridiculous tropes, like a continent falling from the sky, but a supervolcano?

ʼFuck. What a way to actually start this shitty new year.ʼ Nathan couldnʼt help but curse the current situation due to how bad it was.

He also noticed that the sound wave circled around the globe eight times.

While clenching his fists, Nathan looked at the three girls with a serious face. ”Listen up, everyone. What Iʼm about to say is a secret, so donʼt tell anyone else first. Also, Nidhogg. Weʼll go back to the inn and immediately head back to the Frexia Academy. I will have to talk with my master after this.”
