One-Eyed Monster

Milo was assigned here to study the potential of Kadi, which was a very important task. Milo knew that the chief’s arrangement was naturally a sign of trust in him.

Unfortunately, he had wandered around this small island several times, still without any discoveries, which made him very frustrated.

He felt he had hoped the chief would entrust this to him!

The blue-skinned monster’s potential was elusive to him, which truly failed the chief’s expectations!

However, during his time with this monster, Milo found that the creature wasn’t as fierce and unreasonable as he had initially thought. In fact, in some ways, the monster was quite approachable.

This wasn’t the first time Milo had met the monster. He had seen it before at Guru Mountain, where it was always noticeably unique. Although it had one eye and sharp teeth, it never looked particularly frightening. Milo even felt the monster appeared somewhat cute.

More crucially, this monster named Kadi was quite the chatterbox.

When with this monster, one would never feel bored or lonely. This creature’s nonstop chatter could entertain you all day long.

If not for the chief’s order, Milo felt he could have made a friend out of Kadi.

Moreover, Kadi had always lived on Guru Mountain and knew everything about it. This meant the monster might understand the nuances of Master Guzan too. Learning about the master’s conditions from the monster would be quite beneficial.

Although now Master Guzan could no longer accompany them, as his disciple, he still worried about his teacher’s situation... Milo himself couldn’t understand why things had come to this, why the master and the chief didn’t see eye to eye. The reason he sided with the chief was because he was captivated by Kuyi Tulan’s avant-garde ideas, deeply admiring Kuyi Tulan’s approach. He felt the master was getting old and couldn’t keep up with the times...

Milo gradually convinced himself with this reasoning, though many times he didn’t even know what to believe anymore.

At this moment, Milo was on the boat, heading to the small island in Shading Lake, to continue researching the potential of Kadi.

He felt that Kuyi Tulan arranging for him to come here was not just a show of trust but also a form of care.

In the Alchemy Workshop, he had never been a decision-maker, always an executor, leaning more towards research.

Now arriving at the Vero Realm, he was already a bit confused; ask him to do other tasks, and he might go mad.

Luckily, Kuyi Tulan showed empathy, allowing him to come here to find peace with this blue-skinned monster. Amid this research atmosphere, he forgot many things, and this fixation completely transformed him.

Shading Lake is one of the four major freshwater lakes in the Vero Realm, situated close to the Wensi Empire’s Imperial Capital, hence Kuyi Tulan’s arrangement for them to be here. Incidentally, Shading Lake is considered the most mystical lake in the Vero Realm.

It’s said that Water Spirits haunt this place, yet no one has truly seen them, let alone communicated with them.

This freshwater lake is the only place with a Water Spirit legend.

Though this lake is near the Imperial Capital, it’s not a central area; instead, it lies at the map’s Boundary Zone...

Moreover, unlike other lakes attracting visitors with their stunning scenery, this lake is utterly desolate. Yet Milo found its scenery quite nice.

The isolation from humans meant the skies were blue, the lake water clear, birds sang in joy, and the fish swam freely... If possible, Milo considered staying longer with Kadi in this place.

On this lake’s island, there seemed to be no worry. He could forget many things and not ponder complicated issues. Most precious, here was no conflict, no smoke...

Milo was somewhat entranced, not by the scenery making him leisurely, but because he had thought of his visions. He imagined a world without disputes, offering children more room to grow and himself an environment for peaceful research...

These were his visions, which seemed achievable on this small island.

The lake’s surface at Shading Lake was very calm, with layers of ripples swaying in the wind, reflecting golden sights under sunlight. Milo watched the scenery quietly, his mind unperturbed.

The birdcalls were quite pleasant; here, he felt tranquility.

However, the tranquility was always fleeting because he couldn’t stay here forever. He still had to go to the small island at Shading Lake, heading there alone. The boatman refused to go closer, saying that deeper into the lake, Water Spirits would appear. So Milo had to paddle the canoe himself for the remaining journey.

It’s undeniable that Shading Lake is quite large. Traveling from the Imperial Capital takes one or two hours, spending considerable time on the road.

Yet Milo enjoyed this journey because during it, he could think deeply, which he hadn’t done for a long time.

Many times, being constantly busy with executing tasks kept him from quietly considering matters.

This makes him feel such moments are a luxury...

The canoe had been lowered by the boatman, leaving the journey in his hands, though he’d just learned to master paddling a canoe.

Direction was hard to discern as the lake was vast. Boatmen had their methods, but Milo didn’t need to master the boatmen’s distinct techniques for navigating water.

Because that small island would guide him, the trees on the island emitted light. Even during the day, he could clearly sense the signals these trees gave off.

He heard from Kadi that during the day, these trees were sleeping, and the signals they emitted were the snores of sleep. At night, these trees emitted dazzling lights, accompanied by bright songs.

These peculiar phenomena sparked great curiosity in Milo, reinforcing the unusual and mystical nature of the Vero Realm.
