My Infinite System.

Their thunderclaps rolled like distant storms across the silent dome as Evelyn lunged again. Lightning crawled down her arms, merging with faint kinetic bursts that cracked the air each time her fist moved. Lucian weaved between her strikes with calm precision, his coat drifting softly behind him with each fluid sidestep.

She swung high. He folded low, stepping into her guard and slamming his palm lightly into her stomach. The blow wasn’t strong, but it sent a jolt through her core that rattled her senses. She flickered backward, Lightning Descent activating in reflex, reappearing a few meters away with sparks trailing from her hair.

Her breaths came fast, ragged and broken, her chest heaving. Sweat dripped down her jaw, mixing with the faint blood at the corner of her lips. She raised her fists again, lightning crackling through her veins.

Lucian tilted his head slightly, his half-lidded eyes studying her. For a fleeting moment, the corner of his mouth twitched upward. Almost a smile. Almost... proud.

She lunged forward again. Her fused ability flared, kinetic force layering over her speed, her body turning into a white-blue streak of explosive momentum. Her punch aimed straight for his chest with raw power behind it.

Lucian’s eyes flickered.

[Chrono Sense – Active]

Time bent at the edges of his perception. He saw her coming in perfect clarity. The tremble in her shoulder before impact, the flicker of mana around her knees, the way her left foot angled half a degree inward—every motion laid bare like slow rain under moonlight.

He raised his hand, catching her fist gently in his palm. The kinetic burst exploded outward, dust whipping around them in a circular wave. Evelyn gasped, her eyes wide as she felt his grip tighten around her hand—not painfully, but firmly enough to stop her dead in place.

She tried to pull back. He didn’t let go. Instead, he stepped forward, closing the distance so quickly she couldn’t react. His knee rose sharply, driving into her stomach with precise force. The impact forced the air from her lungs in a choked gasp. Before her body could double over, his elbow came down across her upper back, slamming her to the cracked stone stage.

The crowd went silent.

Evelyn lay there, trembling, her vision blurred with tears and shock. The lightning around her flickered once... then faded completely, dissolving into faint sparks before vanishing.

Lucian stood over her, his hand still half-raised, his eyes calm and half-lidded as always. But behind that sleepy gaze was something sharp. Something quiet and unbreakable.

Athena raised her hand slowly, her voice echoing across the hushed arena.

”Winner... Lucian Black.”

The students erupted into screams, their voices echoing off the high dome. Some cheered his name, others shouted Evelyn’s, their roars mingling in chaotic waves that shook the glowing screens above them.

Lucian exhaled softly, lowering his hand. He crouched down beside her, his black hair drifting across his forehead as he looked at her with quiet eyes.

”Breathe,” he said, his voice low but gentle.

Evelyn gasped weakly, clutching her stomach as she tried to force air back into her burning lungs. Tears blurred her vision. She blinked them away, looking up at him through strands of sweat-damp hair.

”...I... lost...” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Lucian tilted his head slightly, his bangs falling over his half-closed eyes.

”No,” he said softly. ”You didn’t.”

She blinked, confused.

”You’re still trying... aren’t you?” he asked.

She stared at him, her chest rising and falling rapidly. Then, slowly, she nodded, a faint smile twitching at her lips despite the tears spilling from her eyes.

He smirked faintly, rising to his feet and turning away. The wind drifting through the cracked stage carried the scent of dust and faint ozone, rustling his black coat around his ankles as he walked back towards the waiting benches.

Evelyn stayed there a moment longer, staring at his retreating back, her arms trembling as she wiped her tears away with her shaking fingers.

In the stands, Reia watched silently, her golden eyes unreadable. Vyn sat beside her, her expression blank as always, but her gaze followed Lucian with a faint flicker of interest.

”He didn’t even use his real abilities,” Reia said softly, her voice barely audible over the crowd.

Vyn didn’t reply. She only tilted her head ever so slightly, her grey hair drifting across her cheek as she watched Evelyn push herself up off the cracked stone, her movements shaky but determined.

Silas, sitting nearby with his arms folded across his massive chest, chuckled under his breath. ”She’s tougher than I thought,” he rumbled softly, earning a faint nod of agreement from Reia.

Athena stepped forward onto the stage as the crowd continued to scream, raising her hand for silence. The screens flickered above her, rearranging the names into the final semi-final match-ups.

”Prepare yourselves,” she said, her voice calm and carrying across the dome. ”After a fifteen-minute rest, the semi-finals will begin.”

The students erupted into cheers again. Some chanted Lucian’s name, others Evelyn’s, their voices mixing into a feverish storm of excitement.

Evelyn stumbled off the stage, clutching her ribs with one hand as she walked past Lucian on the benches. He didn’t look at her, but as she passed, his quiet voice drifted to her ears.

”...Combine them better next time.”

She stopped mid-step, her eyes widening faintly. She turned to look at him. He sat leaning forward, his elbows on his knees, his bangs shadowing his half-lidded eyes. He didn’t glance at her, didn’t acknowledge her stare. But she felt it.

Her lips trembled into a small, tired smile. She nodded once, even though he couldn’t see it, and walked on towards the medics waiting at the edge of the arena.

As the screens flickered with upcoming match details, the students erupted into fresh screams, their cheers echoing under the climbing sun that turned the cracked stone stage into a brilliant golden plane.

Athena watched the Class Zero students gathering silently at the benches, her sharp violet eyes narrowing with faint approval.

”This year... is something else,” she murmured under her breath.

The wind picked up slightly, rustling the banners hanging from the arena dome, carrying with it the smell of sun-warmed stone, distant blossoms, and something sharp and electric.

Like a storm... waiting to break.

And in the quiet spaces between the roaring students and flickering golden screens—

Lucian sat unmoving, his eyes half-lidded, his thoughts drifting somewhere far beyond the dome and sunlit stage.

Somewhere deeper.

Somewhere darker.

Waiting for what came next.
