My Infinite System.

The crowd’s roar rolled like thunder across the academy arena as Lucian and Vyn stood facing each other under the blinding overhead lights.

Dust drifted between them, glowing gold in the noon sun pouring through the translucent ceiling. The cracked stage floor still bore the scars of Silas and Reia’s clash, each fracture line humming faintly with residual mana.

Lucian stood with his hands in his pockets, his black uniform coat fluttering lightly in the updraft. His eyes were half-lidded, cold, unbothered, his dark hair falling slightly over his forehead.

Vyn stood in silence, her grey and black robes drifting around her ankles like drifting smoke. Her long hair fell across her face, hiding her eyes, but faint violet mana flickered around her fingers. The air felt denser around her, like reality itself strained to remain stable.

Athena raised her hand.

”Lucian Black. Vyn Thorn. Begin.”

She dropped her hand, her voice echoing through the arena speakers.

The crowd held its breath.

Vyn moved first.

She flicked her wrist, and a violet sigil appeared in front of her palm, spinning like a ritual circle. Mana exploded outward in jagged lines, forming dozens of dark-purple chains that shot across the stage toward Lucian.

[Magic Manipulation – Ether Chains: Multi-Lock Variant]

The chains cracked through the air with a piercing metallic sound. Lucian watched them calmly, his eyes flickering faint silver as the world slowed around him.

[Chrono Sense – Passive Active]

He stepped to the side just as the first chain stabbed into the stone where his head had been. Another chain shot at his leg. Lucian folded, vanishing in a flicker of compressed space.

[Fold Step – Instant]

He reappeared behind Vyn, his foot sweeping in a silent arc toward the back of her knee. She didn’t turn, but a translucent mana barrier pulsed to life behind her, blocking his kick.

[Magic Manipulation – Reflex Barrier]

She spun, her eyes glowing faint violet under her hair, and swung her arm in a wide arc. The barrier expanded outward like a battering ram, slamming into Lucian’s chest and sending him skidding back across the cracked stone.

Dust exploded around his boots as he slid to a stop. He exhaled lightly, rolling his shoulders back as the dust cleared.

”Interesting,” he murmured.

Vyn flicked her fingers again, and the air twisted. Two magic circles appeared under her feet, spinning rapidly.

[Magic Manipulation – Ether Boost: Double Cast]

She shot forward like a bullet, the stage cracking under the sudden force. Her fist, wrapped in dense violet mana, slammed toward Lucian’s face.

Lucian twisted his body just enough for the punch to graze past his jaw, the mana scraping his skin like searing wind. He grabbed her wrist mid-strike, folding his other hand into a tight spear formation, and thrust it toward her abdomen.

[Dimensional Claw – Single Cast]

A faint blue-purple energy claw flickered across his fingers. Before it connected, Vyn’s chains shot up from the ground, wrapping around his arm and dragging it down.

She spun, driving her knee into his side. The impact cracked through his ribs with a sharp thud. Lucian grunted, his eyes narrowing, but he didn’t fall.

He raised his hand.

[Spatial Lock – Partial Cast]

The air around Vyn’s leg distorted, locking her movement for half a second. Lucian folded instantly, disappearing from her grip, and reappeared above her. His foot dropped down like a hammer toward her shoulder.

Vyn raised her palm upward.

[Magic Manipulation – Ether Shield: Impact Reversal]

His foot slammed into her shield. Instead of shattering, the shield bent inward and then exploded outward with reversed force, throwing Lucian high into the air.

The crowd erupted.

”Holy shit, is she winning against him?!”

”That’s Vyn Thorn, she’s a direct heir of Thorn magic lines!”

Lucian twisted mid-air, stabilising himself with a flicker of spatial energy under his boots, and landed lightly on the far edge of the arena. Dust drifted off his hair as he stood, unbothered, despite blood dripping from the corner of his lips.

He wiped it with his thumb, eyes sharp and silent.

Vyn didn’t move. Her chest rose and fell slowly, her eyes still hidden under her hair.

”You’re strong,” Lucian said quietly, his voice flat but calm. ”But—”

He stepped forward.

[Fold Step – Double Cast]

The world blinked.

He reappeared in front of her in an instant, his knee driving upward toward her stomach. Vyn raised her hands to block, but he vanished again.

He reappeared behind her, his hand already thrust forward.

[Dimensional Claw – Twin Cast]

Twin claws of translucent blue-purple energy tore through the air toward her back. Vyn spun, her chains erupting outward in a dome formation to intercept the claws.

The stage exploded in violet and blue light as their attacks collided, cracks spreading outward like spiderwebs. Shockwaves rattled the arena barriers, rattling the seats of students in the front rows.

Evelyn gripped her skirt tightly, eyes wide. Silas leaned forward, eyes glinting with excitement. Reia’s circuits flickered faint gold as she analysed each frame of their duel.

Vyn slid back, her feet dragging across the stage, leaving twin grooves in the cracked stone. Lucian didn’t move, his aura flickering faint silver around him, his hair drifting upward in the distortion.

Athena watched silently, her eyes narrowing just slightly.

Vyn raised her head slowly, revealing her full gaze for the first time.

Her eyes glowed bright violet.

Mana erupted around her, forming multiple layered circles in the air above and below her, each inscribed with intricate Thorn family runes. The entire arena floor pulsed violet as her aura deepened, shadows crawling across the stone.

[Magic Manipulation – Ether Dominion: Thorn’s True Weave]

The instructors in the viewing platforms stood up instantly, eyes wide.

”She’s activating True Weave this early?!”

Lucian narrowed his eyes, his breathing steady. The air around him compressed, flickering with blue distortion lines.

[Dimensional Rift Drive – Core Flicker]

He stepped forward calmly.

The world twisted.

In a single breath, he disappeared.

A deafening BOOM tore through the arena as he reappeared inside Vyn’s dominion field, his fist slamming into her chest with such force the entire magic weave shattered like breaking glass. She gasped, her eyes wide as the impact forced the air from her lungs. Her chains tried to react, but they fell apart mid-formation, her mana dispersing in thin violet smoke.

Silence fell.

Lucian pulled back his fist, standing over her as she collapsed onto one knee, her hair falling forward to hide her face.

Athena raised her hand.

”Match over. Winner: Lucian Black.”

The crowd erupted into screams and claps, some students chanting Lucian’s name while others sat in stunned silence.

Vyn coughed softly, a faint smile touching the edge of her lips.

”...you’re... strong.”

Lucian turned away, wiping the blood from his chin again.

”You too.”

He walked calmly back toward the edge of the stage, his shadow long under the arena lights. As he passed Athena, she spoke softly without looking at him.

”Well done.”

He didn’t answer.

In the stands, Evelyn let out a breath she didn’t realise she was holding. Silas grinned wide, slapping Reia’s arm. Reia didn’t react, her golden circuits flickering as she recorded every move for analysis later.

The screens flickered, the table shuffling again for the next match.

And as Lucian sat down beside Evelyn, the thunderous cheers still echoing across the arena, the Class Zero duels continued—

Under the blazing sun of a world that had no idea what these five were about to become.
