My Infinite System.

The roar of the students rolled across the dome like a rising tide as Evelyn stepped onto the fractured stone stage. The dust from Lucian and Silas’ battle still drifted faintly in the golden morning light, catching in her red hair as she walked forward.

She stopped three meters from Lucian. He stood relaxed, one hand tucked in his coat pocket, the other hanging loosely by his side, his eyes half-lidded and calm. But there was something sharp behind his gaze today—like a blade just barely hidden in silk.

Athena raised her hand, her violet eyes flicking between them.

”Final quarterfinal match. Lucian Black versus Evelyn Merrin.”

A hush fell over the entire arena. Even the breeze seemed to pause, the rising sun turning the cracked stage into a glowing platform that felt almost unreal under the silent sky.

”Begin.”

The gong echoed.

Lucian didn’t move. He just tilted his head slightly, watching her with that same unreadable calm. Evelyn exhaled softly, her heart hammering against her ribs so hard she felt dizzy.

[Lightning Descent]

Her body flickered in a blinding burst of white arcs, vanishing and reappearing behind him instantly. She pressed her palm to his back, electricity crackling across her fingers—only to feel nothing.

She blinked, confused, as Lucian turned his head to look at her over his shoulder, his black hair drifting lightly around his face.

”You’ll need more than that,” he said softly.

He flicked his wrist without turning around, his hand brushing against her chest in a barely-there motion. A sudden spike of force exploded outward, slamming her backwards across the stage. She skidded on her feet, sparks crackling around her as she struggled to regain her balance.

[Nerve Disruptor Pulse]

She flicked her fingers forward, sending a faint burst of blue energy at him. Lucian raised his hand lazily. The mana flickered out before it even reached his chest, dissolving like smoke in the breeze.

Evelyn’s eyes widened. Her heart skipped painfully in her chest.

What...?

She clenched her teeth, her mind racing.

[Ability Replication – Attempt: Chrono Sense]

She felt it—his faint aura around her. She reached for it with her mana, trying to copy the flickering temporal signature she sensed in his movements.

[Replication Failed]

The words didn’t appear in her vision—she didn’t have a system. But her body felt it. A dead silence in her chest where the replication should have anchored.

She tried again.

[Ability Replication – Attempt: Fold Step]

Nothing. Her mana slipped off his like oil refusing to mix with water.

She lunged forward, Lightning Descent flickering her closer in a single flash, her fist cocked back with raw lightning crawling up her arm. Lucian’s eyes flicked up. He tilted his head sideways, letting her punch pass his cheek by a hair’s breadth, the static ruffling his hair lightly.

She swung again. He folded back, his coat snapping softly behind him with each effortless dodge.

Why can’t I copy him...?!

She ground her teeth, sweat dripping down her neck.

[Ability Replication – Attempt: Dimensional Claw]

Again—nothing. Only a void where the replication should settle.

”Stop trying to copy me,” Lucian said suddenly, his voice quiet but carrying across the silent arena.

She froze mid-step, her breath ragged, her fists trembling with faint arcs of static.

”You’re wasting energy,” he continued, his half-lidded eyes watching her calmly. ”You can’t copy everything.”

She clenched her teeth harder, her voice coming out as a desperate whisper. ”Then what do I do...?!”

Lucian blinked once, slow and patient. Then, for the first time that day, he smiled softly.

”Combine them.”

She blinked, confused, sweat dripping into her eyes.

”What...?”

”Your abilities,” he said, his voice low but carrying clearly. ”You’re using them like separate tricks. Combine them. Fuse them. That’s what replication is for.”

She gasped faintly, her mind racing through every copied ability she’d taken over the past week.

Lightning Descent. Nerve Disruptor Pulse. Mana Barrier. And others—small ones, sensory abilities, kinetic accelerators from first-year friends, a faint flicker of force manipulation from a second-year she’d helped with his exams.

Combine them...?

She swallowed hard, her chest tightening.

The crowd was silent, watching them both. Lucian stood still, waiting, giving her that silent chance she didn’t know she needed.

She raised her hands, her fingers trembling as mana flickered pale blue around her. Sparks of lightning crawled across her skin, merging with faint shimmers of translucent barrier energy. She pulled in the kinetic flicker, layering it over the Lightning Descent, and weaved in the force manipulation around her fingers like invisible threads.

Her circuits burned hot under her skin as she clenched her fists, a faint cry escaping her lips as the abilities fused within her chest.

[??? – New Skill Created]

She didn’t see the words. But she felt it.

The world sharpened in her vision as lightning crawled up her legs, merging with faint blue force fields that wrapped her limbs. Her muscles felt lighter. Her arms felt unbreakable. The static in her chest burned into something deeper—something alive.

She flickered forward in a burst of white and blue, her body snapping through the air like a thunderbolt. Lucian’s eyes widened faintly for the first time as her fist collided with his raised palm, the impact exploding outward in a thunderclap of electric force and kinetic burst.

He slid backwards a foot, his boots scraping across the cracked stone. Evelyn landed lightly, her chest heaving, lightning and force energy still crawling across her skin in flickering arcs.

The crowd erupted.

”WHAT WAS THAT?!”

”She combined her abilities...?!”

”That’s not Lightning Descent anymore...!”

Lucian smiled faintly, his hand tingling from the blocked punch.

”That’s it,” he said softly, his eyes warming slightly. ”That’s what replication is for, Evelyn.”

She panted, her bangs falling over her glowing eyes, a smile trembling on her lips despite the tears burning in them.

”Thank you... Lucian...”

He stepped forward, his aura flickering faint black around him like drifting shadows.

”Don’t thank me yet.”

He lunged forward, faster than before. Evelyn flickered sideways, reappearing behind him, but Lucian twisted mid-step, his elbow slamming into her ribs before she could counter. She gasped, the impact throwing her sideways across the cracked stage. She rolled, skidding on her knees, her arms trembling as she forced herself back up.

Her new fused ability flickered again, lightning and kinetic force crawling across her bruised skin. She raised her hand, her vision blurring with tears and adrenaline.

Lucian stood calmly, watching her with that same unreadable gaze. But deep in his eyes, she saw it.

Respect.

She exhaled shakily, wiping the blood from her lip with the back of her trembling hand.

And she smiled.

”Again...!”

Lightning exploded around her as she launched forward once more.

The arena filled with thunderclaps and flashing blue-white arcs as Evelyn and Lucian clashed again and again under the blazing morning sun, each strike echoing through the silent breaths of every watching student.

Athena watched them both, her arms folded, her lips twitching faintly upward.

So she’s finally found it... her eyes narrowed slightly. Her own path.

And in the stands, Reia watched quietly, her golden eyes calm and tired, a faint smile drifting across her lips.

”She’s... grown up...” she whispered softly, so only Vyn beside her heard.

Vyn didn’t reply. Her grey eyes just followed Evelyn’s flickering form across the cracked stage, each flicker of lightning mirrored faintly in her unmoving pupils.

The sun climbed higher over the academy domes as Lucian and Evelyn continued to clash, their silhouettes framed in lightning and drifting shadows.

And in that bright, silent morning—

Two futures collided, reshaping themselves in the sparks of each blow.
