Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 36: Chapter 30: Provoking the Audience

”No way, is he really a high school student?”

”He’s almost graduating, why isn’t he studying at school instead of coming here?”

”Haha, that’s hilarious.”

”This is an advertising spot, he’s trying to get sponsorship. Does this kid think he’s a member of the Thunder Team? Crazy for money!”

”Kid, get down quickly, or don’t cry if you get your leg broken!”

After Lin Feng took the stage, his funny white shirt caught a lot of attention, and all kinds of mocking and jeering boos roared in.

In response, Lin Feng remained unfazed, even slightly raising the corner of his mouth, revealing a hint of disdain, and extended his index finger towards the area with the loudest audience, gently waving it!

Clearly, he was provoking the audience.

A contestant provoking the audience is rare, so Lin Feng’s provocative act elicited even more frenzied ridicule and booing, interspersed with all sorts of unfriendly curses. The noisy sounds made those watching other matches from afar raise their eyebrows and shift their gaze over.

Thunder Martial Arts Dojo has over a hundred arenas, almost all of which are being used for battles. For the audience, it’s impossible to watch every arena; they choose ones where the skills are similar to their own or where the fight is most exciting.

Most of the audience gathers around the five central arenas. Lin Feng’s arena wasn’t in an optimal location, tucked away in the most remote corner, due to his poor record, with hardly any spectators. However, with the buzz and curses, many were drawn over out of curiosity.

”Seems like it’s working well.”

Lin Feng began warming up, continuously swinging his fists and kicking, and he was facing the area with the most boos, as if he was attacking them. Clearly, it was another provocation.

Were it not for regulations and security, some hot-tempered audience members might have rushed onto the stage.

”Heh heh.”

Watching the nearly hysterical spectators, Lin Feng chuckled heartily. The more intense the hostility, the more satisfied he was. Without attention, how could he sell advertising?

He didn’t come to Thunder Martial Arts Dojo to earn bet money from fighting; his 800-yuan bet would only earn him a little, and it was a one-off. He came to sell advertising spaces!

So the more attention he got, the higher the advertising fee, which is why he used the brash name ”High School Student Beats Martial Artist” as his main strategy.

”Kid, you’re too arrogant.”

As a taunting voice came, a youth about twenty, wearing a black martial arts suit, appeared on the opposite side of the stage.

At this time, the screen on the stage also displayed the information for both sides.

[Wang Jiehui, 20 years old, Body Cultivator Eighth Rank, 17 matches, 9 wins, 7 losses, 1 draw]

[Lin Feng, 16 years old, Body Cultivator Seventh Rank, 0 matches, 0 wins, 0 losses, 0 draws]

”Isn’t this a mistake?”

Many people showed puzzled expressions, how could a Body Cultivator of the Seventh Rank be matched with an Eighth Rank opponent, especially with such extremely different records.

Shouldn’t it be rookie against rookie?

”Whoa, look carefully, this high school student chose the random mode, this kid is as audacious as his name.”

Soon someone realized that only the random mode would work like this.

Amidst all the disdainful boos, everyone hurriedly took out their phones to start betting, and soon, the odds on the big screen began to change.

”1 to 2.7, almost two thousand pocketed.”

Lin Feng looked at his odds on the screen and nodded satisfied. He bet 800 yuan on himself, and if he won, he’d get around two thousand. The odds were quite good.

As the five-minute betting time ended, a red lightning suddenly flashed on the screen, and the match began.

”Kid, go back to school obediently, the real world isn’t easy.”

Wang Jiehui smiled and didn’t waste any more words, lunging forward with his body swaying side to side, constantly switching as he approached Lin Feng. With a spin, his arm was as straight as a blade, slashing an arc towards Lin Feng’s head, even making a slight whistling sound in the air.

It seemed unavoidable, Lin Feng raised his hands to protect his head, and with a thud, his body involuntarily stepped back three times. Before he could steady himself, Wang Jiehui had already darted in front of him, as swift as a leopard.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh!

The speed of his hand blades was so fast that they sliced through the air with a slightly shrill whistling sound.

Lin Feng dodged with difficulty, and whenever he couldn’t dodge, he could only block with his arms, continuously retreating.

”Get down.”

Seeing Lin Feng being pressured into a corner, Wang Jiehui had a victorious grin on his face. Just then, Lin Feng, who was originally at a disadvantage, suddenly halted his steps, his body swaying, dodging the attack like dandelion fluff in the wind, and then all his bones twisted with a huge twist, like a tightly wound steel wire, bursting out instantly!

Bang!

Without any warning, Wang Jiehui was knocked off the stage, unharmed but utterly baffled, as if he couldn’t accept the reality.

”No way, he was almost winning, yet he couldn’t even beat a high schooler.”

”Lost it, lost a fortune, I bet ten thousand!”

”Ha, I made over three thousand! I told you this kid wouldn’t dare be this arrogant if he wasn’t confident. I have a keen eye!”

Some rejoiced, while others were upset, cursing and grumbling.

”I didn’t want this, either!”

The dejected Wang Jiehui, who had been kicked out of the arena, sulked.

He felt that from the start, he had the advantage. Although Lin Feng’s Fighting Technique was better, his power and speed were inferior, and Lin Feng was at a disadvantage for a while. How did he end up losing?

”Must’ve been too complacent, what a pity.”

Feeling embarrassed, he hung his head on the sidelines, not daring to make a sound.

By now, Lin Feng’s record had finally broken the zero mark.

”Why’s this kid still not getting off?”

Some people curiously remarked, as they saw Lin Feng still standing on the platform, moving his hands and feet.

”Is he enjoying the spotlight? I really want to punch him!”

Disgruntled voices came from the crowd, but soon when they saw the screen matching opponents again, they realized Lin Feng was preparing to continue fighting, and many who were originally upset became exhilarated.

They thought that after fighting for so long, Lin Feng’s stamina would have significantly decreased, plus this time his opponent was also a Body Cultivator Eighth Rank with an impressive record of 25 wins and 7 losses. Lin Feng was bound to lose.

Because of their disregard for Lin Feng, his odds this time soared to 1 to 4.2.

”Haha, gonna make money.”

In the audience, Gao Hai excitedly shouted, ”Go for it.”

Only he knew Lin Feng’s strength. Even a Ninth Rank Body Cultivator wasn’t a match for Lin Feng, let alone an Eighth Rank!

Sure enough, the match went as Gao Hai predicted. After dozens of rounds, Lin Feng knocked his opponent out of the arena with a sweeping kick.

Five minutes later, the system started matching opponents.

Five minutes later, the system started matching opponents.

...

”I don’t believe it. Is this kid really that strong?”

”Five matches, and he’s back in action with just a ten-minute break?”

”Do you think this high schooler is doing it on purpose, playing the fool to defeat the strong?”

As people discussed, Lin Feng’s battles continued without a break. After eight uninterrupted matches, Lin Feng remained undefeated, and by this time, people were going crazy.

Many were losing money, red in the face and neck.

”Eight rounds, and I’ve got nearly 160,000 on hand.”

Lin Feng contemplated inwardly.

By this time, the previously desolate arena was surrounded by spectators, many directly standing under the stage to watch the match.

Even the martial arts dojo staff were alarmed, immediately moving Lin Feng’s match screen to the central screen.

In the ninth match, Lin Feng encountered a middle-aged man named Gao Tong, who had an extensive record of 57 wins and 4 losses. This man seemed to have a bit of fame in the Thunder Martial Arts Dojo, with many in the crowd shouting, ”Second Gao, teach him a lesson!”

At this point, Lin Feng’s odds skyrocketed to 1 to 6.7, making Lin Feng grin even wider.

That enigmatic smile gave the audience a very uneasy feeling.
