Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 2176: Chapter 2176: Mr. Zombie (35)

Chuzheng stared at him for a few seconds and asked Xiaoyu to bring some chili over.

Xiaoyu, a bit confused, took the stuff over.

Then she watched as the big shot made Bei Chi eat a spoonful of chili.

Xiaoyu: ”!!!”

Xiaoyu was so scared she quickly walked away.

”Don’t spit it out, swallow it,” Chuzheng threatened, pointing at Bei Chi.

Bei Chi: ”...”

Though Mr. Zombie wasn’t happy, he eventually swallowed it all, just like he did with other things.

Most of the time, Bei Chi ate things as if it was life-threatening, and Chuzheng never specifically paid attention to him.

However, it seems now that he can’t taste flavors.

Are all zombies like this?

Chuzheng wasn’t sure, so she asked Zhi Kai to test it on zombies.

Zhi Kai: ”...”

What kind of ridiculous task does the boss want now?

Despite the doubts, he still had to go.

Zhi Kai cheerfully went to try things out with zombies, and the conclusion was unanimous—they couldn’t taste much.

But they could decide whether they liked the food based on its texture in their mouths.

Chuzheng sympathetically ruffled Good Person Card’s hair; they were really pitiable.

-

The destroyed areas of the city were gradually being repaired, and having electricity made many things more convenient.

The borrowed people were somewhat reluctant to return; after all, the living arrangements were too comfortable with free food and accommodations.

Now they’re staying in luxury suites; going back would mean living in dormitories.

Anyone with a brain knows where comfort lies.

But this place doesn’t seem to retain people; they can only think about it, and those who should leave still have to go.

Chuzheng gave them gold bars to take back, leaving a group of people holding gold bars, bewildered, wondering if they’re useful.

But it turned out that people found them useful.

Soon after, the laboratories discovered a way to cultivate edible grains and vegetables.

Though the yield was low, it helped alleviate the pressure on resources.

The base’s order gradually took shape.

And gold bars soon became the sole currency.

Those who held gold bars were envied by many.

The country is so big, and surely there are bases beyond here; Chuzheng’s request for zombie news began to spread, with Xia Li acting as go-between, others started directing zombies toward Chuzheng’s vicinity.

Chuzheng felt this wouldn’t work; with so many zombies, it would cause an explosion here.

Humans too thought it wouldn’t work...

Gathering all the zombies together, should an incident occur, it would be disastrous.

So Chuzheng thought of a way, dividing the land into two, building a wall in the middle, so everyone minds their own business.

Since there are more zombies now, Chuzheng’s side naturally got more area.

It was a sizable project, but with zombies as free labor, it wasn’t particularly difficult.

The walls grew day by day, gradually connecting to form a line.

Humans worked in unison to drive the zombies all to this side.

But there were quite a few stragglers; occasionally news would break out about places being bitten by zombies or entire forces wiped out.

Chuzheng told the zombies to farm; they didn’t need to worry about viruses, and the virus actually prevented pests, so randomly planting resulted in decent growth.

Looking at the human side, what they planted was either withered and stunted or died soon after.

The zombies had already harvested once, while humans fretted over their stunted plants.

For some reason, plants on the zombie side grew especially fast when there was water; plants initially reaching the ankle unknowingly grew to the knee, with leaves green and wide, as if they had mutated.

Zhi Kai sent some to the laboratory.

The conclusion there was that these plants were also infected and had mutated.

These had no harm to zombies, so Chuzheng didn’t inquire further.

”Any progress on the virus?” Did those in the lab find a solution?

If possible, she’d still hope Good Person Card could recover.

Zhi Kai relayed what he heard: ”The virus keeps changing, oddly enough; it seems able to constantly change with environmental temperature to ensure its survival.”

Chuzheng was slightly surprised internally; could a virus be so formidable?

According to lab data, the virus had already evolved many times; every time they found a clue, the virus changed again.

The laboratory was now at a loss.

”Huhuhu!!” Bei Chi entered from outside, holding a bunch of fresh flowers, ignoring Zhi Kai, directly rushing to Chuzheng: ”Hug...”

Chuzheng instinctively caught the person: ”Who gave you the flowers?”

Bei Chi blinked: ”Melon?”

Chuzheng pointed to the bouquet in his arms: ”Flowers.”

”Huhuhuhuhuhuhu!!” Bei Chi burst into a series of ”hu” sounds, making Chuzheng’s head spin.

”Speak slowly, don’t ’hu hu’; who can understand what you’re ’huing’ about.”

”...” Bei Chi pouted: ”They... got them...”

Bei Chi’s vocabulary wasn’t vast, so he wasn’t particularly clear.

It seemed outside zombies were messing with flowers, and he retrieved them from them.

If not for the fast-growing plants, with how this group of zombies messed around, the place would have been bald long ago.

Bei Chi proffered the bouquet toward Chuzheng: ”Pretty...”

The flower’s mutant variety was unknown, but it was indeed pretty, blooming brightly in clusters.

”For me?”

”For?” Bei Chi tilted his head, pondered for a moment, and shook his head: ”No, I... mine.”

Bei Chi took the flowers back.

Chuzheng: ”...”

Zhi Kai almost couldn’t hold back his laughter: ”Boss, shall I head out now?” If I don’t leave now, I’ll end up eating dog food soon.

Chuzheng nodded, and Zhi Kai quickly sneaked out, closing the door behind him.

Bei Chi peered at Chuzheng, hesitated, and then withdrew a single flower to place in Chuzheng’s hand.

The gesture seemed to say: Just one flower, not more.

Chuzheng: ”...”

Am I only worth one flower from you?

Bei Chi insisted Chuzheng take care of the flower. The big shot, who was only worth one flower, wasn’t too pleased but couldn’t hit Good Person Card; thus, she found a bottle to keep the flower for him.

Bei Chi sat in Chuzheng’s lap, carefully placing one flower at a time into the bottle, contentedly swinging his dangling legs.

Chuzheng remained expressionless as the perfect tool.

As long as Good Person Card is happy.

Bei Chi was very attentive to this bouquet; he wanted to see it before sleep, upon waking, while eating, even during a shower...

Chu-tool-Zheng: ”...”

Chuzheng observed for a few days and noticed there was nothing special about the flowers, and they had already begun to wilt.

Yet Good Person Card was inexplicably concerned about them.

Chuzheng woke up one morning to find Bei Chi not beside her but at the windowsill.

Mr. Zombie wore only a shirt, which was long enough to barely cover his abdomen.

His slender, straight legs were exposed in the air, his bare feet rested on the carpet.

Sunlight spilled through the window, enveloping him in a halo.

Chuzheng’s gaze lingered on his legs for a moment; his skin tone had almost returned to normal, indistinguishable from a regular person.

The zombie traits seemed to have disappeared.

Chuzheng got up and headed over; the flowers on the windowsill had wilted, drooping limply.
