Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 623: Chapter 623 Discovering the Demon Egg

Cheng Lu almost wanted to drive Ye Qingchen mad. The guy’s luck with women was as strong as ever, with one beautiful confidante after another. Even as their senior brother, he was a bit jealous!

After turning a corner in the corridor, the space suddenly opened up. About twenty steps ahead, a steep cliff appeared. Across from the cliff was a stone wall, densely covered in spiderwebs. Countless objects of a dull, natural color protruded from it, clinging tightly to the surface. Some of the webs had been torn open from the inside, exposing round objects that turned out to be broken eggs. Thick, black liquid oozed from them, staining the surrounding webs.

A heavy Demonic Qi emanated from the black liquid, but it was quickly absorbed by something else. Following the torn webs with their eyes, they saw that besides the round, brownish-gray eggs, there were also many strange-looking plants growing on the stone wall. Most were half-green and half-gray, which appeared to be the result of long-term immersion in two different types of energy.

”Are those the Demon Eggs?” Xiao Xiao asked, pointing to the objects on the wall.

”That’s right, those are them,” Li Nian’er answered. ”You have to hand it to the Demon Clan. How else could these things have traveled so far?”

She then walked quickly to the edge of the cliff. Since entering the Devil’s Cave, they had all clearly sensed an unusual aura within. Following it, they looked down and were surprised to find a hidden world below the cliff!

Li Nian’er paused. Everyone quickly sensed something and hurried toward the north side. Peering down, they saw what looked like a small mountain of crystals. One side was comprised of black crystals, while the other side contained five different kinds: red, green, gold, clear, and earthy yellow.

The crystals stored here were slowly dispersing into the air, gradually transforming into Demonic Qi and nature’s spiritual energy. As these energies rose, they were absorbed by the Demon Eggs on the wall above. Bathed in this mixture of auras, the eggs began to tremble faintly, as if they were about to hatch.

No wonder those high-ranking demons keep bringing things in here, Cheng Lu mused, observing the scene intently. They’re using the energy of the Cultivators who challenge this level to pave the way for the Demon Clan’s next generation!

He and Li Nian’er had wandered the third level for a long time. If they hadn’t accidentally learned of this from a member of the Demon Clan, they probably never would have found this place! No wonder so many Cultivators braved the third level!

”These are a few Spirit Stones for testing attributes. Take them,” Zhu Liang said, living up to his role as their senior brother by taking the items out of his pocket. ”If you find a suitable Demon Egg, you can form a contract directly. Unhatched Demon Eggs have no resistance. However, you must be careful. Many Heavenly Demon eggs are also mixed in. Once they hatch, their power is immense, comparable to the Eighth Layer of the Martial Emperor Realm. So, while our combined strength means we don’t have to fear them, we must still be extremely cautious!”

He had brought out his prized possessions before they entered, never expecting they would actually be useful here. Since they were all his junior brothers and sisters, there was no reason to be secretive.

Li Nian’er looked at Zhu Liang and, with a cheeky expression on her own baby face, shamelessly snatched an extra Spirit Stone. ”Senior Brother, you’re so stingy. When Senior Brother Cheng Lu and I were here before, you weren’t willing to share such good things. Now you’re suddenly willing to distribute them to all of us?”

Zhu Liang was at a loss for words. These things were hard enough to come by in the first place; I never thought there’d be a time to use them.

”Junior Sister is joking,” he stammered. ”Isn’t this all a matter of chance?!”

With that, the group took their Spirit Stones and leaped down from the cliff, scattering out below. Ye Qingchen silently led Xiao Xiao to one side.

The moment I entered the Devil’s Cave, I could feel threads of Demonic Qi pouring madly into my body, as if possessed. The infuriating part is that none of it is for me; it’s all for that stone I carry. That stone is stubborn and useless. After swallowing all that Demonic Qi, it just lies there motionless as if nothing had happened. If not for the faint trace of life I can sense through our connection, I would have assumed the thing was dead.

A moment ago, he had felt an inexplicable urge to head in a specific direction, sensing something was waiting there. He had immediately pulled Xiao Xiao along with him.

As luck would have it, the very edge of the area was clustered with broken Demon Egg shells. Some of the residual fluid had dried, while some was still sticky, as if something had just crawled out. Following some drag marks on the ground past the eggs, they discovered that they led to a hole of moderate size. It looked big enough for a person to pass through.

”Young Master, this...?”

Xiao Xiao stared at the hole, her face filled with confusion. Did a member of the Demon Clan just escape without us noticing? If so, have we been discovered?

”Don’t worry,” said Cheng Lu, who had been keeping an eye on them from a safe distance. He spoke up to answer their unspoken question. ”The creatures that just hatched haven’t been trained yet. The tracks you see were likely made by a type of demonic rodent. They usually appear in groups, so a single one is insignificant. It probably just fled in a hurry when it saw us arrive!”

Upon hearing his explanation, both Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao let out a silent sigh of relief. They had feared they were exposed, but it seemed that wasn’t the case.

Li Nian’er, who was choosing a magical pet on the side, couldn’t resist joining in on the fun and casually reminded them, ”The plants on these walls are also rare medicinal ingredients. If you see any you like, you should gather some! The Magical Beasts can also rely on the aura of these plants to complete their hatching!”

As soon as she heard this, Xiao Xiao reached out and plucked one of the plants, holding it firmly in her hand.

At the same time, a small, brownish-gray Demon Egg in a nearby corner seemed to catch the plant’s scent. It began hopping toward Xiao Xiao as if it had grown legs. Before anyone could react, the Demon Egg cozied up to Xiao Xiao’s feet and pressed against the hem of her clothes, refusing to leave.

Xiao Xiao absentmindedly shooed it away. She didn’t care what kind of Attribute Energy the Demon Egg possessed; what mattered more was who chose it for her. Before they came here, her Young Master had promised to find one for her. Unless it’s one the Young Master picks, I don’t want it.

The Demon Egg seemed to sense Xiao Xiao’s mood. Its hops became less vigorous, as if it were feeling a bit down.
