Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 607: Chapter 607: The True Strength of the True Demon

Ye Qingchen activated his Dual Pupil Martial Soul and discovered that a total of seven True Demons were following him.

This gave Ye Qingchen a headache. His original plan was to attract no more than four or five True Demons at a time, just enough for everyone to handle one. If he finished his opponent quickly, he could even go and assist the others. However, he had not expected these True Demons to call for reinforcements. He had only attacked a single one, yet it had drawn seven.

This was still only the periphery of the gathering area, where the True Demons were relatively scattered. If the battle dragged on, they would have to venture deeper to draw them out. At that point, a single screech from a True Demon could summon an unknown number of companions.

However, Ye Qingchen knew now was not the time to ponder such things. The most crucial matter was eliminating the seven True Demons they had lured over. Fortunately, he had told Xiao Xiao and the others to move away from the gathering area in advance. Otherwise, the ensuing battle might attract even more True Demons to aid their kin.

Ye Qingchen did not dare to fly. He could only activate his Fire Spirit Charm Shadow and race forward on the ground. Based on his estimation, a True Demon’s speed was at least comparable to a Martial Artist at the Sixth Layer of the Martial Emperor Realm. Thankfully, he had the Fire Spirit Charm Shadow; otherwise, he would have likely been caught.

Several minutes later, Ye Qingchen finally caught up to Xiao Xiao and the others. Xiao Xiao frowned as she looked at the seven True Demons with flickering wings behind him.

A disciple from the Wuji Immortal Palace spoke up, ”Did Ye Qingchen overestimate our strength? How are we supposed to fight seven True Demons at once?”

Xiao Xiao shook her head. ”The Young Master is always cautious. There must have been some unforeseen change for him to lure so many. Regardless, let’s first help him out of this predicament.”

The three Wuji Immortal Palace disciples nodded. Xiao Xiao continued to give orders, ”Each of you three, engage one True Demon. I’ll take on two. With the Young Master’s strength, he should be able to handle the remaining two. Let’s agree on this now: whoever kills their True Demon first must immediately go help the others.”

The three nodded and flew toward their respective True Demons, while Xiao Xiao also took action, launching an immediate attack on two of them.

Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao were in perfect sync. Though he had not heard her arrangements, he had already figured them out. Seeing the others make their move, Ye Qingchen also spun around to engage two True Demons. The group deliberately spread out to widen the battlefield so their fights would not interfere with one another. After all, the True Demons had the advantage in numbers. Given their cunning, they might suddenly team up against a single person if an opportunity arose.

After luring away two True Demons, Ye Qingchen drew his Double Pupil Sword and unleashed the Wind Blade Sword Technique. Thanks to his current mastery over nature’s spiritual energy, he could now condense it mid-attack, just like Li Nian’er. As a result, the sword strikes he unleashed now only appeared to be a few meters in size, but the power contained within was countless times greater than before.

The True Demon that Ye Qingchen attacked saw the strike approaching. It suddenly brought its wings forward, folding them together like a shield to block the blow. Meanwhile, the other True Demon took advantage of the opening to launch its own attack. A True Demon’s body was incredibly tough, and its claws were exceptionally sharp, easily rivaling low-grade treasured artifacts.

Just as Ye Qingchen launched his Wind Blade Sword Technique, the second True Demon’s attack was already upon him. He hastily used his Fire Spirit Charm Shadow to dodge, circling behind the creature to instantly execute Sword Dusting the Wind. Unfortunately, the demon’s flapping wings managed to block this attack as well.

By now, the first True Demon had dissipated the energy of the Wind Blade Sword Technique and was flapping its wings to fly toward Ye Qingchen.

Ye Qingchen could not help but frown. Though I haven’t used my full strength, the two attacks I just launched should have been enough to kill any Lesser Demon. Yet, they didn’t inflict any damage on these two True Demons.

Ye Qingchen dodged the attacks from the two True Demons while looking for an opportunity to counterattack. Simultaneously, he kept his Dual Pupil Martial Soul active to observe the entire battlefield. He had fought True Demons before, but these two were clearly more formidable than his previous opponents. In contrast, the other demons fighting the Wuji Immortal Palace disciples were not nearly as powerful as the pair he faced. Ye Qingchen had to incorporate Wood Attribute Energy into his attacks just to barely gain an edge under the siege of the two True Demons.

After battling for a quarter of an hour, Ye Qingchen had a good grasp of his opponents’ strength. Through his Dual Pupil Martial Soul, he also keenly observed the differences among all the True Demons on the battlefield. After some analysis, he came to a conclusion.

It seems the sign of a Lesser Demon evolving into a True Demon is the growth of wings. During the evolution, larger wings signify greater strength—I already verified that on the first level of the Demon Clan battlefield. Once the wings are fully formed, the creature ascends to the True Demon Realm and gains the ability to fly. However, at this stage, their wings are relatively frail, sufficient only to support flight. The True Demons we encountered on the outskirts of this second level likely belong to this initial stage. As they continue to cultivate and evolve, their wings stop growing and actually begin to shrink. This shrinkage must signify a condensation of power! This means that during the True Demon stage, the measure of their power is the exact opposite of the Lesser Demon stage: the smaller the wings, the stronger the demon. Come to think of it, the True Demon that defeated the Wuji Immortal Palace Saint Heir in the sect’s newcomer competition must have been on the verge of completely refining its wings and advancing to the next realm. No wonder the Saint Heir was no match for it. The two True Demons I’m facing now have smaller wings than the others, which explains why they’re more formidable.

However, this was all just his own speculation. The truth would still require further verification.

Having figured this out, Ye Qingchen decided to stop holding back. Wood Attribute Energy surged forth, wrapping around his Double Pupil Sword. With the enhancement from the Wood Attribute Energy, his attack power increased exponentially. Every strike of his sword now sent the True Demons reeling back.
