“I didn’t mean that.”

“What did you mean?” Wei Erzhu asked.

“We specifically asked you to do it. Yet, you don’t want to treat me. You’re afraid that others will laugh at you. Although we’re poor, we still have a backbone.”

Lin Yi was speechless. What were these people thinking?

Why did he act as if he was poor yet had integrity?

!!
Who spoiled him like this?

“Do you still remember? When your family was young, you were so poor that you couldn’t even eat. If it weren’t for the potatoes and cabbages I brought to your family, you might not have survived until now,” Lu Ronghua said.

“Also, when your mother passed away, if it wasn’t for our help, you wouldn’t have been able to bury her in time. It’s only been a few years since. How could you have forgotten us after coming to the city?” Wei Erzhu said.

“Alright, that’s enough.” Li Chuhan said, “I’ll just leave later. You guys can come back to the department with me.”

“Okay, okay, okay. That’s right. We’re all from the same hometown. We can’t forget our roots.”

Li Chuhan looked at Lin Yi, “I won’t have breakfast with you. Let’s do it after the next night shift.”

“There’s no need. I don’t have anything to do anyway. I’ll follow you to the department. It won’t take long for me to get treated.”

“Yes, thank you.”

Li Chuhan looked at Wei Erzhu and the other two. “Go to the outpatient window and register with Director Zheng Binjiang. After that, look for me at Outpatient Room 306.”

“What’s going on? Aren’t you the one treating us? Why do we still need to register?”

“I’ll check out your illness, but you have to register. This is the regulated process. We have to record it on the computer.”

“There’s no need to go through so much trouble. Just directly inspect me. It can save us all some time,” Wei Erzhu said.

“It can’t check you if you don’t register.” Li Chuhan’s expression was not very good. “Don’t tell me you don’t register at other hospitals?”

“We’ll definitely have to register at other hospitals, but aren’t we just visiting you? We’re from the same village. Do you need to spend any money to check a patient?”

“Chief, you’re in the wrong.” Lin Yi chuckled.

“If your relatives and friends are sick. Logically speaking, you should put down your work and go home to treat them personally. It would save them the trouble of coming here. The bus fare is quite a lot.”

“Young man, there’s no need to be so polite. Although we’re all relatives and friends, as long as you treat us well, we will be able to afford the bus tickets.”

Li Chuhan shook his head helplessly. He couldn’t even detect such simple sarcasm. These people were really too much.

“Alright, go register and find me at Room 306.”

With that, Li Chuhan brought Lin Yi to Room 306.

Her stance was very clear. If they wanted to see a doctor, they would have to register. If they didn’t register, she would leave.

The Wei family was helpless. They had no choice but to register.

“The eldest girl has changed. She’s not as obedient as the young man.” Wei Erzhu sighed.

“That’s right. I heard that now, when she goes back to visit her mother’s grave, she doesn’t even drop by her home. She burns paper and leaves. It’s as if she wants to cut off contact with the people in our town,” Lu Ronghua said.

“Isn’t that how it is in the city? They think they’re better than others. Why would they care about poor relatives like us?” Wei Erzhu said.

“Son, luckily the two of you didn’t get together at that time. Someone like her can’t enter our Wei family.”

“Didn’t I follow your wishes? Back then, I didn’t pay much attention to her. Otherwise, it would have really happened,” Wei Daqiang said.

“Alright, let’s go register first. Let’s get your illness checked first. I wonder if the 800 yuan I brought is enough.”

“Definitely enough.” Lu Ronghua said.

“The eldest girl works here. She won’t even need to spend money to check you or buy medicine. We just need to pay the registration fee. 800 yuan is definitely enough.”

“That’s true,” Wei Erzhu said. “Let’s go and register. The girl asked us to register with a doctor who’s name is Zheng Binjiang, right?”

“Yes, that’s him.”

Wei Daqiang took Wei Erzhu’s ID card and queued for more than ten minutes before arriving at the window.

“Director Zheng from the cardiovascular surgery department.”

“84. Cash, WeChat or Alipay?”

“Huh? 84?”

Wei Daqiang was stunned. “Why is your registration so expensive? Our county’s hospital only charges 11 yuan for the registration.”

The cashier looked at Wei Daqiang coldly.

“Then go back to your county. Next.”

“No, no, no. We’ll pay up.”

Seeing the cold-faced female cashier, Wei Daqiang didn’t dare to say anything else and obediently handed over a hundred yuan.

“Why is this Director Zheng’s registration fee so expensive?” Wei Erzhu was unhappy. “I only have a total of 800 yuan, and the registration fee alone is 84 yuan. Isn’t this girl cheating me? She got me such an expensive doctor.”

“Dad, don’t say anymore. She has already changed.” Wei Daqiang said.

“Of the 84 yuan, at least 60 yuan is her commission. Otherwise, how could she earn money?”

“How did this child become like this? She even scammed her close friend’s money. Who will come to her for treatment in the future?”

“Alright, let’s not talk about this now. We’ve already paid for it. We have no choice but to continue.” Lu Ronghua said.

“We’re here to see an acquaintance. Although we could have indirectly saved a lot of money, we have to let them earn some money.”

“You’re right.” Wei Erzhu said.

“However, I have to mention this to her and let her know what’s going on. Don’t treat us as fools.”

“That’s true. We won’t pursue the matter, but we still have to talk about it.”

“Dad, let’s go. Let’s go see a doctor first. Your health is more important.”

“Let’s go. I think it’s Room 306. Let’s go over now.”

In the consultation room, Li Chuhan changed into his white coat. Lin Yi sat at the side with nothing to do, waiting for the Wei family to come in.

“I’m sorry for making a fool of myself,” Li Chuhan said.

“It’s normal. Who would actually want such things?” Lin Yi said, “It’s perfectly normal to have a few weird relatives and friends.”

“We’re just neighbors. We’re not relatives.”

“That’s even better. We’ll leave the moment we’re done. Just do the check up symbolically.” Lin Yi said.

“People like them are good at pushing their luck. The more you accommodate them, the more they push it.”

“Let’s deal with them first.”

It was obvious that Li Chuhan didn’t really like the Wei family.

“This is Director Li’s consultation room. She’s not taking any patients today.”

As the two of them spoke, they heard voices coming from outside.

“I watched her grow up. We know each other. She’s waiting for me inside.”

“So, that’s how it is.”

“Are you here to see a doctor too?” Wei Erzhu looked at the middle-aged woman in the dress and asked.

“My heart is a little uncomfortable. I wanted to register with Director Li, but my illness can’t wait. Director Li isn’t around, so I could only register with someone else.”

“It’s a small matter. Don’t be anxious.” Wei Erzhu said.

“When I go in later, I’ll help you say hello and get her to treat you. I’m still able to do this much.”
