I Can See Experience Points

Chapter 60: Chapter 59: The Dumbfounded Seller

The veteran driver, looking exhausted, watched He Xiaotian sitting in the passenger seat grinning foolishly. He couldn’t for the life of him figure out what had gotten into this guy.

He’d been smiling nonstop ever since getting in the car.

It was making him paranoid. ’Could it be that this guy won the lottery?’

’Wait, why is he frowning now!’

[DING! Detected that Experience Points have exceeded 50,000. Upgrade now? (Hint: New functions will become available after the upgrade.)]

’The last time, it was over ten thousand points. This time, it’s over fifty thousand. Does every system upgrade really require five times the amount?’ He Xiaotian muttered to himself. Still, for someone who’d struck it rich overnight, fifty thousand Experience Points was a drop in the bucket. Nothing to sweat over.

’Upgrade!’

’I have to upgrade. I’m loaded, after all.’

[DING! Deducting 50,000 Experience Points... Upgrading... 2%... 20%... 35%... 99%... 100%. Upgrade successful.]

[Please select one of the following four functions to add, or upgrade an existing function.]

[New Function: Simulate.]

[New Function: Storage.]

[Existing Function: Enhance +1.]

[Existing Function: Scan +1.]

He Xiaotian was once again struck by analysis paralysis.

’I want to upgrade both Scan and Enhance.’

Right now, Enhance only worked on medicine; it didn’t work on anything else at all.

’If I upgrade it again, I might be able to enhance other things.’

But then he thought about the sledgehammers in the back seat of the Bentley and decided to put that idea on hold.

It was just too much of a hassle to run around Shanghai, a major international metropolis, carrying two man-sized cases every day.

’Storage.’

Having made his decision, he focused his Spirit and mentally tapped on [New Function: Storage].

[Experience Points: 23600

Functions: Scan, Enhance, Storage

Martial Arts: «Fire-refined Golden Body» - ∞ (Miraculous: Perfect-grade Supreme Heaven-scorching... Expand ↓), «Iron Sand Palm» - 0/500+ (Mastered... Expand ↓), «Eight Steps Chasing Cicada» - 0/1000+ (Outstanding... Expand ↓)]

Watching the first digit of his Experience Points change from a 7 to a 2, he’d be lying if he said it didn’t hurt.

After all, those fifty thousand Experience Points for the upgrade had cost him dearly—earned by risking his life (and abandoning all shame) to land those finishing blows!

”Storage!”

He Xiaotian turned and uttered in a low voice to the sledgehammers in the back seat.

The scene he’d imagined didn’t happen.

...

He didn’t dare turn his head. He could just imagine the veteran driver staring at him as if he were a complete idiot.

’This crappy storage space is totally useless.’

As he spoke, he slammed his hand down on the seat.

THUD!!

On an empty street, two men sat on the road, staring at each other in utter bewilderment.

”Sir, where’s my car?”

The expression on the veteran driver’s face was priceless. ’How did the car just disappear while I was driving?!’

’I’ve never run into anything like this before.’

He Xiaotian sat on the road, feeling very awkward.

It was because of that slap, combined with the word ”Storage,” that he’d sent the Bentley straight into his storage space.

It turned out it wasn’t useless after all. It was just that to store anything, he had to be in contact with the target.

And the system’s storage space was neither too big nor too small—just right to fit a Bentley.

It just couldn’t store living things. Otherwise, the driver wouldn’t be sitting on the street; he would have been stuffed inside long ago.

’You say ghosts aren’t life forms?’

’No, no, no, they’re just an alternative form of life.’

BANG!

The Bentley materialized out of thin air and dropped onto the road.

The veteran driver looked at He Xiaotian, his face full of confusion.

”If I said this was all a misunderstanding, would you believe me?”

”I believe you. Please, sir, get in.”

Whether he truly believed it or not, when He Xiaotian was the one asking—brandishing a sledgehammer, no less—did he dare say he didn’t believe him?

After a busy night, he finally got home.

Finally, he waved goodbye to the veteran driver.

「The next day at noon,」 He Xiaotian slowly stirred awake.

”Ah, that’s better.”

He had to admit, sleeping in felt really great.

He might have slept comfortably, but the city’s Cleaners and Department 037 were mobilizing their forces to find him.

Although He Xiaotian had dealt with an evil spirit and killed a large number of human-headed skulls at the bottom of the Pu River...

...and, as the ”umpteenth interloper,” had hammered the giant crocodile to death...

...from this, they could tell that he was friendly toward the government.

But the country and the relevant departments could not just ignore him.

Right after He Xiaotian slipped away, a group of people had examined the giant crocodile’s skull and come to a conclusion.

Very few people present could have finished off that monster in a single blow.

Admittedly, he had just taken advantage of the situation, killing the crocodile when it was already severely wounded and on the verge of death.

He Xiaotian’s existence was a huge and unstable factor for society.

As long as he was human, he would have emotions—joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness.

Once a gifted individual like him lost control, the resulting destructive power would cause chaos.

Therefore, it only made sense that he be put under surveillance.

Until it was finally determined that he posed a low risk to society and was in a controllable state.

But, maddeningly, the guy’s trail was intermittent, and they couldn’t find the location where he finally got out of the car that night at all.

In truth, He Xiaotian had long since expected that the relevant departments would investigate him afterward.

So, just before returning home...

...he had the veteran driver continue to drive around aimlessly within Shanghai, ensuring he wouldn’t get back to his own ”cinerary casket” until dawn.

However, this was just a stopgap measure. Sooner or later, the relevant departments would trace things back to Huang Tao and Li Zheng.

’Looks like I’ll have to lay off the messaging apps for a while.’

After washing up, he called his cousin and asked for his Taobao account.

Liu Junming had been looking for a new job recently. Although his aunt and uncle’s savings were enough to live on for a lifetime if they were frugal, he clearly didn’t want to be a freeloader.

What was He Xiaotian planning to do?

Naturally, he wanted to ask about his «Fire-refined Golden Body». Why had it gotten even hotter after he’d mastered it? ℯℯ𝑙.

That final hammer blow that had killed the giant crocodile, unleashing eighty years of Inner Strength, had been a bit rough on him as well.

If not for the Experience Points system providing him with unparalleled control as a bonus when it raised his martial arts realm...

...he feared he would have spontaneously combusted and turned to ash right in front of everyone.

[Once Dreamed of Roaming the World with a Sword]: ”Shopkeeper, are you there?”

Having logged into his cousin’s Taobao account on his phone, He Xiaotian typed out his question.

’I never would have guessed my cousin’s username would be so poetic.’

’But looking at it, why does it seem so familiar?’

’It looks like a song lyric!’

[I Don’t Sell Fake Manuals, I Sell Antiques]: ”Yes, dear. Which antique has caught your eye? Send me a link. Our shop is having a sale right now, I can give you a great price.”

[Once Dreamed of Roaming the World with a Sword]: ”A few years ago, I bought a copy of «Fire-refined Golden Body» from your shop. Now that I’ve mastered it, my Inner Strength is as scorching as fire. Whenever I use it, I feel like I’m about to spontaneously combust. Could you please tell me what’s going on?”

The Taobao shop owner on the other end: ”...”

’What the hell are you even talking about?’

’Mastered a martial art! And you have Inner Strength! And you feel an urge to self-immolate?’

’Which rival merchant who has a grudge against me sent this guy to mess with me?’

But as a Crown-level seller, he naturally couldn’t be so blunt.

Even if the person on the other end was a lunatic, he had to maintain his professionalism and reply with a smile.

[I Don’t Sell Fake Manuals, I Sell Antiques]: ”Dear, please wait a moment. I’ll go and check all the information I have regarding «Fire-refined Golden Body».”

’Whoa! Not bad at all!’

’This shopkeeper is pretty responsible.’

He Xiaotian had no idea that the Taobao seller was looking up the information while simultaneously muttering ”MMP” under his breath.
