I Can Devour Spirits

The closer it gets to the final moment, the more you need to keep calm.

With two more hours to dawn, Duan Rong plans to start setting up for tomorrow in just one more hour!

Tomorrow is the day when two big fish will appear! It’s also the day he plans to close the net!

He just doesn’t know if the net he has prepared can arrive in time.

Thinking this, Duan Rong looked up at the dark night sky above.

A thought from a contact flashed through his mind, and he sighed silently: People from the Ministry of Communication should be reliable, right?

Just then, Duan Rong’s eyelid twitched suddenly. His Divine Sense had been scanning the surroundings, and a figure walked into its range.

It’s Ximen Kankan!

Ximen Kankan came alone; Shen Mizi and Liu Shushan weren’t with him!

Using his Divine Sense to ’watch’, he saw Ximen Kankan getting closer, walking along the side of West Main Street, heading in his direction.

Duan Rong straightened up from his pretend sleep on the corner of the wall.

He could already see a familiar chubby figure slowly approaching from the other side of the street in the dim night.

”What is this guy up to?”

Duan Rong couldn’t figure it out; the plan they discussed and rehearsed before didn’t have this part, but Ximen Kankan was clearly heading straight for him.

Ximen Kankan had already come close to Duan Rong.

Duan Rong sat there, looking at him with a face full of surprise and doubt.

Ximen Kankan walked up to him and suddenly threw a chicken leg into Duan Rong’s lap, saying, ”Here’s something for you, big brother!”

Duan Rong looked at the chicken leg in his lap, stunned as if petrified.

Right now, in his mind, ten thousand grass-mud horses were galloping past.

No! Brother!

What is this act you’re pulling?

Tomorrow is the day to close the net!

Have you been fooling around for a few days and gotten yourself so muddle-headed?

If it weren’t for the fact that a patrol of government constables was heading this way nearby, Duan Rong would have liked to throw that chicken leg directly at Ximen Kankan’s fat face!

At this point, Ximen Kankan actually turned to leave, but after a couple of steps, suddenly started to urinate against the wall.

The sound of urine splattering against the wall was loud.

Duan Rong was both angered and amused by Ximen Kankan; he thought Ximen Kankan must be out of his mind. Luckily, this is ancient times, or he would definitely think Ximen Kankan was on drugs.

But just then, Ximen Kankan, while urinating, said quietly, ”Hu Huanhuan poisoned Bai Rong and got caught. Right now, Bai Rong is hanging her up in the room, beating her; she might get beaten to death. Save her or not, it’s up to you!”

After finishing his words and his pee, Ximen Kankan shivered, pulled up his pants, and walked away as if nothing had happened.

Duan Rong sat there, confused!

He wasn’t troubled by whether to save Hu Huanhuan or not; he was troubled that this guy had come to speak so openly and left just as casually.

Duan Rong actually had no direct relationship with Hu Huanhuan, but she was Shen Ping’s old flame.

Shen Ping had done Duan Rong a favor and could even be considered half a mentor to him.

Hu Huanhuan being Shen Ping’s old flame was something Duan Rong once mentioned as gossip to Ximen Kankan, along with some stories about Shen Ping.

Probably, Ximen Kankan happened to witness this while playing at Huaying Building, felt sympathy, and came to tell Duan Rong. He was just letting Duan Rong know it was up to him to save her or not.

After all, at this critical point of closing the net, taking action now could easily lead to complications!

At this moment, the patrol of government constables had already arrived at Duan Rong’s side.

The leader of the patrol was a lanky middle-aged man with a long face. He had seen Ximen Kankan give the little beggar a chicken leg and pee against the wall. These things seemed entirely normal to him.

Duan Rong noticed the leader looking at him, so he immediately bit into the chicken leg. Even though he was hungry, it tasted bland as wax to him.

The leader turned away from the little beggar’s unsightly eating manner.

While gnawing on the chicken leg, Duan Rong saw Ximen Kankan already stepping out of the range of his Divine Sense, without any anomalies, and wasn’t noticed by any of the Secret Agents.

Duan Rong had to admit, Ximen Kankan’s move—throwing him a chicken leg and then quietly speaking while urinating against the wall—was so unexpected and in a blind spot, that even if a Secret Agent was following him, they probably wouldn’t suspect a thing.

After all, at this moment, he was just a street-side little beggar.

Though reckless, Ximen Kankan’s move was unexpected and hit a blind spot; upon careful thought, it actually carried no risk.

Ximen Kankan reached the alley entrance not far from Huaying Building, where Shen Mizi and Liu Shushan were waiting.

Shen Mizi looked at Ximen Kankan with suspicion and asked, ”Where did you go?”

”Nowhere, just took a leak,” Ximen Kankan said casually, ”Let’s go back. Let’s get some sleep early today; there’s stuff to do tomorrow.”

Shen Mizi and Liu Shushan naturally knew what Ximen Kankan meant by ”stuff tomorrow,” and the three of them entered the alley, heading towards West Gate Mansion.

As Ximen Kankan was about to enter the alley, he turned his head to glance at Huaying Building three blocks away. The lights of Huaying Building were particularly prominent in the dark night. Even though he had informed Duan Rong, he wasn’t sure if Duan Rong would rescue Hu Huanhuan.

Sitting there, Duan Rong finished off the chicken leg in his hand. He had already reached a decision in his heart.
