God-Level Special Forces Soldier

After lying down last night, I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me, followed by a chill coursing through my body. Then I noticed Xiao Tian was about to leave and grabbed onto his arm.

Receiving his promise that he would return soon, I felt reassured and then drifted off, only to wake up again now.

After sorting through her thoughts, Melinda felt not the slightest reassurance but instead grew more worried.

What exactly happened during this period of lost memory?

Fighting through the piercing pain in her chest and the weakness in her body, Melinda struggled to crawl towards Xiao Tian.

Fortunately, after two gentle shakes, Xiao Tian, who had collapsed on the ground, slowly regained consciousness, although he still looked frighteningly pale.

”Awake?” Xiao Tian managed a gentle smile, which left Melinda feeling a mix of laughter and tears. Shouldn’t it be me asking that?

However, upon seeing Xiao Tian’s pale face, Melinda pushed aside that irrelevant thought and asked worriedly, ”What exactly happened?”

Seeing Melinda’s nervous expression, Xiao Tian feigned ease as he recounted every detail to her.

...

After Melinda filled in the gaps in her memory, it took her a long time to digest the shocking events. While worrying about Xiao Tian’s injuries, she couldn’t help but think of the parts of her body that were injured, leading her face to blush fiercely.

”How did you extract the toxin?” Melinda asked softly, her face growing even hotter and her head bowing a few more degrees.

”Uh, well...” Xiao Tian blushed, feeling a bit awkward, and said, ”I sucked it out.” Having said this, he used the bit of strength he had recovered to sit up.

Hearing Xiao Tian’s answer, Melinda understood what had happened, and her emotions were extremely complex for a moment.

Time passed amidst the awkwardness, and after a long silence, Melinda asked in a voice almost inaudible, ”What happened afterward?”

”After the medicine was ready, I saw you were still unconscious. Afraid that the medicine would lose its efficacy if it cooled down, I then...” Xiao Tian gritted his teeth and told her about feeding her the medicine mouth-to-mouth.

After explaining everything, Xiao Tian quietly awaited the coming storm, only to find Melinda keeping her head down, saying nothing for a long time.

This reaction startled Xiao Tian; even if she were to explode in anger or even take action, he wouldn’t have been surprised at all.

Although Xiao Tian knew in his heart that Melinda had feelings for him, no girl could remain calm after experiencing something like this; her current reaction left him a bit at a loss.

”Are you okay?” Xiao Tian tentatively asked, only to see Melinda keeping her hands on her knees and her head buried, making no response.

Could she be crying?

Xiao Tian gently patted Melinda’s back, took a few deep breaths, and softly said, ”The situation was urgent at that time. If you feel hurt, I will take responsibility!”

Such a typical scumbag remark was something Xiao Tian never thought he’d say, and the moment he did, he felt an even stronger pang of guilt, as if he had said something wrong!

”No need!” Melinda lifted her head; contrary to Xiao Tian’s expectations, she wasn’t in tears. She struggled to keep her tone even as she said, ”In the end, I should be thanking you for saving me once more!”

Xiao Tian was left speechless, unsure of how to respond. His instinct told him nothing he could say now would be appropriate; he couldn’t simply say, ”You’re welcome,” could he?!

”If you said you’d take responsibility because you felt some guilt,”

Melinda smiled genuinely, ”There’s actually no need; you don’t owe me anything. In fact, I owe you another favor!”

After speaking these words, Melinda felt an immense sense of relief. She understood that Xiao Tian was a responsible person, and if she acted like a damsel in distress, he would surely take responsibility for her.

But Melinda felt it beneath her to use such tactics. She had her pride, and if there wasn’t genuine affection, she would rather not bind herself to him through another person’s guilt.

After listening to Melinda’s statement, Xiao Tian fell into a long silence. Indeed, Melinda’s clear distinction between love and hate allowed him to let go of his hesitation, yet he couldn’t comfortably accept her gratitude.

In his heart of hearts, Xiao Tian admitted having feelings for Melinda, but he had always focused on looking for Lin Bingxuan and had forcibly suppressed these emotions.

However, on this journey, Melinda had wholeheartedly assisted and supported him, which deeply moved Xiao Tian.

Realistically, if Melinda wanted to create delays or cause trouble, she could easily have done so, but she refrained.

Such a wonderful girl, although Xiao Tian didn’t want to miss out, he feared letting her down. It was better to avoid it from the start, which was why he hadn’t given Melinda a definitive answer earlier.

If not for this incident, Melinda might have parted ways with him after helping find Lin Bingxuan, meeting again in some future time, at some place, possibly still as friends.

When encountering troubles, one won’t stand idly by, yet there would inevitably be some awkwardness in their hearts.

Now, Melinda, as a girl, had the grace to make a clear distinction between credit and fault, and to say such words was incredibly magnanimous!

Such a good girl, whether or not he can shoulder her feelings is indeed a bothersome problem.

...

Xiao Tian closed his eyes and began interrogating himself. After a long while, he finally spoke, ”If I said it was because I liked you that I’m willing to take responsibility?”

”Will you, let me be responsible for you?” Xiao Tian asked earnestly, looking into Melinda’s eyes, only to see her become flustered.

Faced with this sudden confession, Melinda found it unbelievable, subconsciously covering her mouth as two blushes rose on her cheeks.

”Don’t joke around!” After a moment, Melinda forced a bitter smile, ”I don’t need consolation!”

”I’m not joking, nor am I consoling you!” Xiao Tian’s expression changed to utmost seriousness, ”I understand that saying such things at this time may make you feel that it isn’t heartfelt.”

”In truth, your feelings for me have always been clear to me; and mine for you, I believe you can faintly sense too.”

Xiao Tian continued, ”Perhaps without this incident, when we met again, we would remain friends, but I’ve decided I won’t deceive myself anymore.”

”I don’t want to miss out on you!” Xiao Tian articulated each word clearly, ”So, give me a chance to be responsible for you, will you?”

Tears fell from Melinda’s eyes as she vigorously nodded and tightly embraced the man before her.

A feeling of happiness surrounded her heart...
