Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1591 1591: Repeating the Past

The Old Horn did not want to accept the mission to capture Adam Vinter when he heard that some unknown hunter was protecting him.

The reason was that he had already faced Goen once before, when Goen had not concealed his identity. On that day, the Old Horn had not only suffered a crushing defeat but had also lost one of his horns.

Now, the Old Horn did not run away. He remained on the battlefield even after Goen had destroyed every member of the fifth team, bloodily and brutally.

Why?

The answer was simple: he couldnʼt pass up such an opportunity to take revenge for his humiliation.

”You decided to stay?” Goen asked in a calm tone. ”Arenʼt you afraid that the same thing will happen to you as happened to the others?”

The Old Horn scratched the back of his head.

”Nah. Their boss asked me not to be too active. She wanted Liliane and her team to do most of the work, and I was there to make sure they achieved their goal.”

His gaze fell on the bloody stains on the ground.

”Well... Looks like I failed my mission, but who gives a damn?”

The Old Horn shook his head.

”Iʼm sure sheʼll try to blame me for this, but no one will share her opinion. Hah, the five young Lords didnʼt stand a chance against you.”

”Still,” Goen said. ”Youʼre here.”

After a short pause, the Old Horn pulled an object resembling a fang from his pocket. It was white, with a slight blue tint, but its simple appearance could not hide its dense energy.

”What did you expect? That I would run away as soon as you revealed your true power?”

Goen blinked once.

”You know this isnʼt the peak of my power, donʼt you?”

The Old Horn smiled bitterly. Of course, he knew.

Even though Goen had easily destroyed the fifth team, he hadnʼt used a single ability, not even the simplest ones, let alone his trump cards, which he had just like any other Phantom.

”That doesnʼt matter. All I want to know is if Iʼve gotten better since our last meeting.”

Goen narrowed his eyes.

”You will die. You know that, right?”

However, the Old Horn did not answer.

He grabbed the white fang and, without hesitation, plunged it into his chest.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

His heart began to beat rapidly as his aura burst forth.

”GRRRRHHHH!!!” The Old Horn roared in pain, while the white fang slowly sank into his chest, filling his body with pure energy.

True, Goen could kill the Old Horn right now. It would hardly take him more than one swing of his sword.

But he waited. Unlike Liliane and the others, he and the Old Horn had a personal history. For him, Goen was willing to spare a little time.

”Agh... Agh... Agh...”

Heavy breathing accompanied the Old Horn as he gradually regained consciousness. The fang was completely absorbed, leaving a white seal on the Old Hornʼs chest and lines running along his torso.

Clutch.

The Old Horn gripped the handle of his axe tightly and turned to Goen.

Goen remained calm: ”How much time do you have?”

The Old Horn spat a clot of blood onto the ground.

”Less than 60 seconds.”

Goen nodded deeply.

”I see. In that case, letʼs not waste any time.”

In a heartbeat, the Old Horn and Goen simultaneously disappeared from their spots.

Adam and Alexia, who were watching the battle from above, were puzzled.

”Wait, why is he doing that?” Alexia blinked in disbelief. ”Heʼll die in the first clash!”

However, when the axe and great sword collided with each other in the next moment, Alexiaʼs expression froze.

Crash!

A cascade of sparks flew before Goenʼs calm eyes as the shockwave receded from their clashing weapons.

Cracks ran across the ground, breaking the surface into pieces, snow scattered in waves, and gusts of wind swirled in all directions.

The Old Hornʼs eyes filled with blood, his feet sank into the ground, but he was able to withstand Goenʼs direct strike.

”Not bad, last time you would have lost your arm. Youʼve actually gotten stronger.”

”Thatʼs... Thatʼs not all!” The Old Horn roared belligerently as he attacked again.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

With each clash, a shockwave went out, destroying everything around them, yet neither the Old Horn nor Goen moved far from their original positions.

As soon as one of them lost their balance, the fight would be over.

”What?” Alexia gasped. ”Heʼs fighting on equal terms with Goen? Why didnʼt he do that before? I mean, if he had helped the others, maybe they could have defeated Goen.”

However, Adam had a different opinion.

”Nah.”

”Hmm? What do you mean?”

”Goen is just letting him do it. Sure, heʼs much stronger than the others, especially after he stuck that strange fang in his chest. But itʼs temporary, and even now, Goen isnʼt putting all his strength into his strikes. I can see it.”

Adam was right, and the Old Horn understood that as well. From the very beginning, he knew he couldnʼt defeat Goen.

This was not the kind of Phantom he had a chance against, and it was unlikely that another one like him would appear in the next few thousand years.

Still, the Old Horn decided to go against Goen, and strangely enough, Goen didnʼt understand why the Old Horn decided to do so.

”How much longer?”

”Five seconds,” Arikaʼs voice rang out in his mind, coming from his sword.

Goen nodded.

”In that case, we need to end this with a fitting attack. After all, this is our last battle.”

Goen stopped, and instead of his usual slash, he grabbed his sword with both hands, raising it high above his head.

Space warped due to the mass of energy in his sword as the Old Hornʼs eyes widened.

He knew that this attack would end everything.

Well, they both thought about it, but from different sides.

Tap.

The Old Horn pulled a stone eye with a bright, vertical pupil from his pocket.

”Bye.”

Before Goen could react, the Old Horn clenched the artifact and disappeared into white particles.
