Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1577 1577: How about fishing?

Adam still had to reach the summit, but he had already become strong enough even to reach the far reaches of the Dark Shore, where the main forces of the Befallen Crown were located.

”A-Adam Vinter?” Lilianeʼs voice trembled. ”But, if heʼs a K4-Phantom, isnʼt our group too high level for this?”

The man folded his arms behind his back.

”Thereʼs another Phantom with him, of the same power level. Whatʼs more, theyʼre both exhausted and have recently been through a tough battle. By the time you get there, they wonʼt have had time to recover.”

The hammer man frowned. ”Then whatʼs the problem?”

”A hunter. We donʼt know who it is exactly, but most likely itʼs a Phantom at the limit of the K4-Level or in the early stages of the Second Rank. In any case, the seven of you will be enough to kill them all.

”But!”

The man raised his hand.

”You can kill the hunter and the girl, but you must do whatever it takes to capture Adam Vinter alive. His abilities are of interest to some commanders. They believe he may be useful to us.”

Liliane narrowed her eyes.

”You always say that about every valuable Phantom. But in the end, they just become servants or toys for some powerful monster.”

The man smiled slyly.

”Even if what you say is true, is that a problem for you?”

”No.”

No emotion appeared on Lilianeʼs face.

”If itʼs an order from the miss, then weʼll carry it out. Itʼs our job.”

The man nodded deeply.

”Great. In that case, leave as soon as possible. The less time he has to recover his strength, the easier it will be for you.”

Then, the man turned around and left the training hall with a calm stride, leaving the fifth team alone.

”Liliane... Why do I feel like this is a punishment?” The blue-haired girl asked.

The pale man next to her nodded. ”Yes. I got that impression too.”

The young man frowned.

”Tsk. Are they sending the seven of us to capture one K4-Phantom? This is some kind of joke! I thought we finally had a mission worthy of us. I got excited too soon!”

The others agreed with him. Based on what they had heard, it didnʼt seem like a mission worthy of their level.

”Silence!” Liliane exclaimed. ”This is a direct order from the miss. Donʼt forget that because the watchers underestimated him, more than ten Lords died!”

The axe man scratched his cheek.

”Yeah, but... Liliane. That time, he was accompanied by two True Lords and one of the Second Rank Phantoms. We donʼt know the strength level of this hunter, but if itʼs not someone as powerful as Wilfred, the Blighted Wanderer, then we have nothing to worry about.”

Liliane waved her hand.

”Whatever. We got the mission, so weʼll do it! We must capture Adam Vinter and destroy everyone else in our path!”

”YES!”

...

Sometimes, a beast, monster, or experienced warrior could sense an impending threat from afar.

Someone like Adam, who had gone through dozens of brutal battles on his path, must have sensed that a hunt had just been declared on him.

Or not...?

”Ghmha!”

Adam yawned, slowly opening his eyes.

”Shit... How long have I been asleep?”

He got up, rubbing his eyes.

”Alexia already left? Where is she going with her broken leg? And...” He looked around, staring at the still half-empty cauldron. ”Did she decide not to eat anything after all?”

Suddenly, the pleasant smell of roasted meat reached Adamʼs nose, capturing his full attention.

He had only slept for a few hours, but that was enough to make him wildly hungry. The fight against Vaarh had taken all his strength and even more.

”Whatʼs that smell?”

Without hesitation, Adam left the house as his eyes widened.

Nothing remained of the huge fire except for a multitude of red-hot coals, over which a huge serpent slowly turned, with several small fish skewered on a branch.

Goen watched the process carefully to ensure that the serpent was cooked evenly on all sides and had a crispy crust.

The serpent was not whole. Before cooking it on the fire, he cut the serpent into equal pieces and used spices that he had made himself.

Alexia sat nearby and stared at the serpent as if hypnotized. Saliva dripped from the corner of her mouth. She was very hungry, but Goen wouldnʼt let her touch the food until it was ready.

”Oh, youʼre finally awake?” Goen glanced at the surprised Adam.

Adam slowly nodded.

”Yeah... Your soup was not only delicious, but it also made my eyelids incredibly heavy. I just couldnʼt resist. But.” He pointed at the serpent. ”This thing must be much tastier, right?”

Goen smirked.

”Of course. I usually eat something simpler, but since I have guests, this can be considered a special occasion.”

”Adam!” Alexia exclaimed, waving her hand toward the mountain. ”You have no idea whatʼs in there! He has a huge ice cave where he stores tons of food and dead monsters! Shit! That serpent was in a huge ice block just two hours ago!”

For some reason, Adam believed it right away. He didnʼt need any proof.

ʼIt makes sense, right?ʼ Adam thought. ʼEven if Goen prefers the life of a hunter, he doesnʼt always feel like hunting. Sometimes he just wants to relax and do nothing. For that, he needs supplies.ʼ

Adam didnʼt think he would ever choose the same life as Goen, but he understood why Goen made that choice.

”Hah, if I were in his place, I would have done the same thing.” Adam sat down on a rock next to Alexia. ”Iʼm sure there are many monsters out there that I donʼt stand a chance against.”

Goen shrugged.

”What can I say? The stronger the opponent, the sweeter the victory. Unfortunately, thatʼs not always true when it comes to meat, but Iʼm sure this serpent will be delicious. Iʼve tried one before.”

Adam looked at the hot coals, stretching his hands toward them to warm up.

”What will you do next, great hunter?”

”Hah, donʼt call me that. But I have an idea.”

Goenʼs gaze turned toward the river.

”Have you ever fished?”
