Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1578 1578: Old Horn

Lilianeʼs team was about to leave their base and head to the Primal Lands. But was that enough to capture a single K4-Phantom?

The door opened as the man returned to his chambers at the top of the tower.

”Did they agree to the mission?” The woman asked, the glass of wine in her hand swaying slowly.

He nodded deeply.

”Of course. They are ready to carry out any of your orders. Especially Liliane, she needs a few more decades, and she will become an excellent warrior.”

The man was about to say something else, but the woman interrupted him sharply:

”Thatʼs not enough.”

”Agh?” The man blinked several times, confused. ”Miss, this is the fifth team, seven powerful Lords. Each of them is strong enough to break every bone in Adam Vinterʼs body. Isnʼt that more than enough to be sure of the success of their mission?”

The woman took a sip of wine, looking away.

”Donʼt be ridiculous. Do you think weʼre the only ones who consider him valuable? To us, Adam Vinter is dangerous, but to the humans, heʼs a talent that must be protected.”

”B-But...” The man stammered. ”Heʼs at the Primal Lands right now! Frida wonʼt be able to protect him!”

The woman turned sharply, giving him a piercing look.

”Last time, it didnʼt make any difference. He was in the very center of the Dark Shore. The First Star gave us a chance to destroy him, but we didnʼt take it! He was accompanied by two Lords and a Second Rank Phantom. Our warriors didnʼt stand a chance.”

The man lowered his head.

”My apologies. I didnʼt think of that. Miss, if you want to send more forces on this mission, maybe I should go to the fourth or sixth team? Iʼm sure theyʼll agree to join Liliane and the others.”

Strangely enough, she did not accept this option. She had another plan in mind.

”The Primal Lands, right? Iʼll contact the Old Horn. It will be much more difficult to negotiate with him than to send another team there, but if one of the most dangerous wild monsters takes on the task, the missionʼs success is practically guaranteed.”

”The Old Horn? Hmm... That old bastard will definitely demand something outrageous. However, if this way we can get rid of a potential threat once and for all, then it will be the right decision.”

The woman nodded, her gaze deepening.

”Exactly. But, fortunately, we have more than enough resources. You may go. I will personally take care of this.”

The man bowed low.

”Yes!”

Without further ado, he left her chamber, leaving her deep in thought.

”Tsk, I didnʼt want to do this, but I canʼt pass up such an opportunity. In this World Wipe, weʼre bound to have a lot of problems. If I can get rid of one potential one right now, then I must do so.”

She set her wine glass down on the balcony and headed to another part of her tower.

On the wall was the great crimson seal full of intricate symbols and ancient runes.

At the very center of the seal was a drawing of a bloody drop held by two hands.

The woman closed her eyes as the energy pulse activated the seal.

The crimson mist swirled around her as several bright stars appeared amid the energy.

She slowly opened her eyes, directing her gaze to one of the stars.

”Well, the Old Horn, letʼs see what else youʼre capable of.”

She touched the star.

...

At the same moment, in one part of the Primal Lands, on a large stone throne covered in beast hides, a three-meter-tall man was sleeping.

His skin was pale blue, his torso was bare, and his head was not human, but a mixture of a bull and a lion. It was a monster in its full form, which, due to its characteristics, was quite similar to the human form of other monsters.

But his head, hooves, claws, and fangs showed that it was definitely not a human, but rather something closer to the minotaur of myth.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

The red light came from the pocket of his baggy pants, causing him to open his gray eyes.

”Grh?” The monster frowned. ”What the hell is going on?”

He scratched the back of his head, touching his horn. He had a second one, but it was broken at the base.

With a sleepy frown, the monster pulled the artifact out of his pocket: the crimson drop on which the runes now shone brightly.

He squeezed the crimson drop as the red mist headed outside.

Soon, a womanʼs voice rang out in the cave:

”Long time no see, the Old Horn.”

The Old Horn scowled.

”You know that I can only hear you, but I canʼt see you? Although... We both know nothing is interesting about you to look at.”

”Well, well, as always, you donʼt watch what you say.” The woman shook her head.

If anyone else had dared to insult her like that, even if it had been a Lord, his life would have been over, but the Old Horn was a completely different case.

”Tsk. What do you want? How many years have we not spoken? Agh? Surely you donʼt want to ask me about the weather, do you?”

The woman nodded deeply.

”Sure. I have business with you. Youʼre in your lair in the Primal Lands as always. Am I right?”

”Hah, where else would I be? This is my home!”

”In that case, there are now two guests in your home. You must kill one and capture the other alive and hand them over to the fifth team led by Liliane.”

The Old Horn raised an eyebrow.

”Liliane? That little girl became a captain? Huh, thatʼs definitely not what I expected to hear.”

”Yes, sheʼs quite capable, though she still has a lot to learn if she wants to reach the top someday.”

The Old Horn spat on the ground and brushed his mouth.

”So, who is this Phantom? If itʼs someone from the top, youʼd better end the contact and never contact me again.”

The woman narrowed her eyes.

”Donʼt panic. Itʼs just a simple K4-Phantom – Adam Vinter.”

The Old Horn blinked several times, confused.

”W-What?”
