Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 2385 Gracious Power

Evelynn became battle ready while Shirley also stayed, her undulations alternating between hot and cold as its intensity heightened.

What Evelynn sensed... Davis also sensed.

His brows possessed a heavy frown.

The beast in front of him... didnʼt undulate with the aura of a wolf. It was something else, but he wouldnʼt go far enough to say that it felt sinister or hostile, causing him to still keep his calm. Instead, its aura even induced reverential emotions in him, although it wasnʼt much, thinking it was similar to how he felt that Nadiaʼs aura was more ominous and oppressive than anything he had felt from other people.

The others also gradually sensed the strange aura, recognizing that what they were witnessing was a quadrupedal beast stepping out of the entirely consumed silvery-white cocoon. Its tails flailed like the center of a windstorm wrapped in a ball, and it walked towards Davis, each step of it causing the plant life that was already growing there even produce flowers, reaching maturity.

Shortly, the misty white fog receded, revealing a quadrupedal beast that was once of the same height Nadia had been when she came out of mutation, not something more than a meter and half tall. Its head was different from that of a wolfʼs, slightly elongated and smaller but more refined, while its two ears also flicked occasionally, probably recognizing the different sounds the world made around her.

The beastʼs body was covered in pure, scintillating white fur but also had silvery-golden runes to the sides, much like Nadia had but of different color.

Nonetheless, what was shocking was her silvery tails beautifully waving around as they created an artistic wave that mesmerized Davis.

After all, there were not one or three but nine of them! There were nine tails, causing Davis to be astounded!

”Your eminence...” Abruptly, a mellow yet charming voice came out from the nine-tailed beast, ”Do you not remember me?”

ʼThatʼs my line!ʼ Davis inwardly shouted, but a smile of relief appeared on his face, ”Everlight, itʼs still you.”

”Yes, your eminence.”

Everlightʼs nine tails also visibly calmed as she relaxed. Their undulations had stormed off, scaring her into thinking they were about to kill her.

Evelynn and the others also visibly relaxed, smiling at each other. Their husbandʼs plan for Everlight, whatever it may be, was a success that they couldnʼt help but rejoice! However, there was still confusion in their eyes because as they gazed at Everlight, they clearly saw that she was not a wolf but a...

”So... why are you a nine-tailed fox...?” Davisʼs expression was stiff.

”I want to ask that...!”

Everlight cried out, her voice full of grievance, while her nine tails moved forwards as they hid her face.

It could be seen that she was visibly ashamed, causing Davis to take a step back in awkwardness. He inwardly claimed that he was not at fault as he had no idea that this would happen. After all, he expected her to become a monster of a wolf or a failed result but to have become a fox, which certainly confused his own understanding of Fallen Heavenʼs abilities.

It allowed mutating into a superior species but not a different species! But now, he was not so sure.

”I think I know whatʼs going on, although Iʼm not sure...”

At this moment, Leaʼs melodious voice echoed as she strode forward, causing Davisʼs eyes to brighten as he quickly turned to look at her.

”Tell us. Iʼm all ears.”

Lea nodded, ”The Light Sky Wolf Clan always claimed that their ancestors were the Starlight Jade Wolf and a normal Emperor Rank Wolf Species that they were too ashamed to name because of the illustrious name of the Starlight Jade Wolf Clan, one of the four Four Grand Light Supreme Beasts.”

”However, Iʼve heard rumors, and Iʼm still not sure, but it is said that the Light Sky Wolf is the progeny between a Starlight Jade Wolf and a particular fox species of unknown origin.”

Davisʼs brows raised.

Nadia did say that Everlight was mixed blood, but he figured that she a mix between the Starlight Jade Wolf and another wolf species. However, to think that the Light Sky Wolf was a mix between two different magical beast species, the wolf and a fox.

”Everlight, is that true?”

Everlight trembled under everyoneʼs gaze. However, she still answered.

”Yes... itʼs a dark history of our Light Sky Wolf Clan that our ancestors buried, so itʼs somewhat observable in our inherited memories...”

Some of her nine tails receded from her face as Everlight looked at Davis with an even more ashamed expression.

”Our other ancestry came from the Illusory Charming Fox Clan, an Emperor Rank Fox Species that holds little prowess but immense charming techniques that theyʼre basically known to be looked down upon for their seductive practices. Because of that, it was memorized that we, the Light Sky Wolves, were also ostracized and heavily frowned upon that we tried to get rid of our fox ancestry from our history...”

”Oh, so thatʼs why I heard no Light Sky Wolf would deign to use illusion when they could actually use it...” Leaʼs eyes brightened.

Evelynn and the others also understood what had happened in their history.

”So these foxes were called shamed because they were like sluts?”

”Mingzhi...!” Fiora hurriedly closed Mingzhiʼs mouth from running rampant, but it was too late.

”Wuwuwu~”

Everlight lowered her head as she whimpered, looking sad and dejected, when suddenly she felt a brush of warmth moving across her head.

”Donʼt worry. Such a clan has nothing to do with you. Werenʼt you majestic and level-headed, leading an entire power to flourish and remain safe as much as you could? I admire you as a fellow living being if youʼre capable of that.”

Davis gently uttered to Everlight, causing her to look at him before she cackled like a fox in happiness, but that instantly caught herself off-guard, causing her to sulk once again.

”...”

Davis was speechless.

Despite reaching Emperor-Tier, her sadness was clear to him, traversing through their soul pact, but he also felt that she could make others feel that she was not a threat or convey her emotions even without having to talk. However, he also recognized that it would be difficult for Everlight to recognize that she was no longer a wolf but a fox.

”...!”

Abruptly, an explosion went on Davisʼs head.

ʼThis...ʼ

He finally understood why Katherine Hilltail failed to mutate with life energy. In fact, he knew for a fact that it would be the same with death energy because...

In the line of Paragon Magical Beasts, the Wolf represented Death, and the Fox represented Life. Understanding this representation somehow without regard for the Dragon, Phoenix, Kirin, and many other magical beasts because he knew that dark-attributed wolves were oppressed by the heavenly tribulation and not light-attributed wolves, he couldnʼt help but ask in an excited manner.

”Is your current species named Nine Lives Gracious Fox?”

”Yes... your eminence.”

”No... no wonder...”

Everlight seemed surprised. She had only come to know of this after going through her inherited memories a bit.

On the other hand, Davis finally understood that light-attributed foxes would undergo special circumstances when they go through their heavenly tribulation, most likely having a heavenly tribulation factor like a descendant of a Paragon Magical Beast would! Perhaps, that was why the light-attributed foxes declined or were wiped out, although he couldnʼt be too sure since he didnʼt know much.

”...” Moreover, Evelynn was thoroughly shocked to hear the name of the Nine Lives Gracious Fox that she had only heard from Misteltae once.

For such an existence, she would have once traversed the world and pleaded to that existence to save her husband, but now, such an existence was her husbandʼs, making her feel exhilarated!
