Chapter 451: Chapter 451: Controlling Wind City

After Bai Ling’s arrival, the four of them exchanged a few pleasantries before finally getting down to business. Looking at Lin Yun, Bai Ling said bluntly, ”Your master came to see me. He told me about your situation.”

Lin Yun hadn’t expected Luo Feng to have actually sought out Bai Ling. Though inwardly stunned, he maintained a calm facade and asked, ”Patriarch Bai, what do you mean by that...?”

”I’m sure you all know about the mysterious organization,” Bai Ling replied. ”Your master’s intention is very simple: he hopes the Bai Family and He Family of Wind City will stop their infighting and present a united front.”

’I can’t believe she brought up Luo Feng right away,’ Lin Yun thought, caught off guard. ’But what does he mean by a ”united front”?’

’Reconciling the Bai Family and the He Family wouldn’t be difficult,’ he mused. ’But resolving the conflicts among the Ten Core Disciples is another matter entirely. Given the Bai Family’s status in Wind City, every Core Disciple would do their utmost to win them over.’

’Furthermore, Wind City has up to a hundred families, large and small, and many of them support different Core Disciples. How could it possibly be easy to get the entire city to unite against an external threat?’

’Luo Feng wants to turn Wind City, a city of nearly ten billion people, into an iron fortress. The difficulty of that is immense.’

Seeing Lin Yun remain silent, Bai Ling smiled and said, ”Young Master Lin, are you pondering your master’s intentions?”

”That’s right,” Lin Yun replied without reservation. ”It’s easier said than done to quell all of Wind City’s overt and covert struggles in a short period. Never mind the several hundred families; the fact that each of them supports a different Core Disciple is enough to guarantee constant conflict.”

’What I said is true,’ Lin Yun thought, ’but there’s a more important point I left unsaid. Are there still moles from that organization planted within Flawless Palace?’

’Is Chang Jing the only one among the Core Disciples, or are there others? If there are, getting Wind City to unite will be incredibly difficult.’

’If there are still members of that organization among the Core Disciples, they certainly wouldn’t stand by and watch Wind City become an impenetrable fortress without taking action.’

”Young Master Lin, I came today for two main reasons,” Bai Ling continued, as Lin Yun wondered what scheme Luo Feng was cooking up this time. ”One concerns my Bai Family, and the other is something your master has instructed you to do.”

Hearing this, Lin Yun said, ”Please speak, Patriarch Bai.”

”First, I came today wanting to form an alliance with you, Young Master Lin. Or, to put it another way, just like the He Family, my Bai Family is willing to submit to you. I only hope that in the future, Young Master Lin, you won’t forget the Bai Family or show favoritism.”

Bai Ling had directly stated the Bai Family’s submission to Lin Yun. Of course, her last sentence was also a clear message: ’My Bai Family is submitting to you, so you must treat us just as you treat the He Family.’

Lin Yun didn’t interrupt. This was only her first point, and he was more concerned with what on earth Luo Feng wanted him to do.

”As for the second matter, it’s what your master asked me to relay to you. With the emergence of this mysterious organization, all leads within Flawless Palace have been cut off. This shows that the organization’s power is by no means small. He wants you to quell all infighting in Wind City in the shortest time possible and unite the major families against this external threat.”

After hearing Bai Ling’s second point, Lin Yun felt an urge to curse out loud. ’Isn’t Luo Feng just dumping this hot potato in my lap?’

’The nerve of that guy! He’s the Master of Flawless Palace! When something like this happens, he, as the Palace Master, should be the one leading the charge. But no, he just wants to take it easy and dumps the whole thing on me. And he even has Bai Ling deliver the message!’

Of course, by having Lin Yun handle the situation in Wind City, Luo Feng hadn’t left him empty-handed. At the very least, the Bai Family had now agreed to submit to him.

It wasn’t hard to imagine that without Luo Feng’s influence, Bai Ling would never have submitted the Bai Family to Lin Yun so easily. After all, her relationship with Luo Feng was well-established. As long as Luo Feng was in power, the Bai Family would remain the top family in Wind City, their position unshakeable by the He Family.

’But to get me to clean up this mess just by offering up the Bai Family... Luo Feng really is a shrewd schemer.’

”I really found myself a great master...” Lin Yun muttered to himself. He had considered every possibility, but he never imagined Luo Feng would so decisively and nonchalantly dump such a thorny problem onto him.

”Well? Does Young Master Lin have any further questions?” Bai Ling asked with a light smile, looking at Lin Yun.

To put it bluntly, the Bai Family would have sided with Lin Yun sooner or later anyway. As mentioned, the relationship between Luo Feng and Bai Ling was clear, and Lin Yun was Luo Feng’s disciple.

Lin Yun glanced at Li Tian with a sense of helplessness, but Li Tian simply wore an expression that said, ’This has nothing to do with me.’

’It’s a monumental task to end the infighting among Wind City’s families in such a short time,’ Lin Yun thought. A realization then dawned on him. ’But when it comes to investigating the mysterious organization, I’m in a much better position than Luo Feng.’

’After all, Luo Feng is the Master of Flawless Palace. The mysterious organization must be watching his every move and has surely prepared extensive countermeasures against him.’

’Therefore, it would be very difficult for him to investigate. He has no way of concealing his actions.’

’However, it’s a different story with me. Who would ever suspect that for a matter of this magnitude—one concerning the very survival of Flawless Palace—Luo Feng would entrust the investigation to a mere Core Disciple?’

’Even though I’m his disciple, no one would ever think this task would fall to me.’

When Luo Feng had explained the entire situation to Bai Ling, she had agreed almost without a second thought. After all, there was no downside for the Bai Family.

If Lin Yun truly rose to power in the future, the Bai Family would gain his protection. At worst, they wouldn’t fall behind the He Family.

And if something were to happen to Lin Yun down the line, the Bai Family still had Luo Feng to fall back on; they would be perfectly fine.

So, right now, the Bai Family was in the most comfortable position. Looking at Bai Ling’s faint smile, Lin Yun gave a wry, helpless smile. ”Since it is my master’s command, I, as his disciple, will naturally do my best. However, Patriarch Bai, as the Bai Family is submitting to me, there are a few things we must agree on upfront.”

”Please speak, Young Master Lin.”

”From now on, the Bai Family must obey my commands unconditionally. And you must not harbor any dissent.”

”Naturally. Since we have chosen Young Master Lin, my Bai Family will, of course, lend you our full support,” Bai Ling readily agreed.

Hearing Bai Ling’s answer, Lin Yun nodded. A smile then spread across his face as he turned to Li Tian. ”Li Tian, I’m giving you three months. Pacify Wind City. I don’t care what methods you use, but in three months’ time, I want to have the entire city under my control.”

The ”control” Lin Yun spoke of meant forcing the factions of all other Core Disciples to withdraw from Wind City completely. There could be only one voice in the entire city: his.

Big fish eat small fish, and small fish eat shrimp. Luo Feng had unreasonably dumped the task on Lin Yun, and Lin Yun, in turn, immediately passed it on to Li Tian.
