Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 886: Chapter 438: The Freedom I Gave You Went Too Far (Second Update)

Ruby Sheldon turned anger into joy, ”Okay, thank you, Dad!”

She provocatively glanced at Lawrence Winters, with a strong desire to defeat him, and the words she’d been churning over in her mind spilled out: ”Miss Winters, people like you who don’t have a father can’t understand the greatness of paternal love. What a pity, do you really have a father? I mean, a legally acknowledged father, your mother’s lawful husband.”

Lawrence Winters rarely responded to such provocation because it was an unfair fight.

But Ruby should never have mentioned her mother.

Family is off-limits, especially parents.

Lawrence Winters’ face fell, gently patting her napkin on the table, she said softly, ”Miss Sheldon, if you’re ignorant, speak less and read more. I obviously have a legally acknowledged father, do you have any questions?”

Autumn Stetford raised her head abruptly, wanting to stop Ruby Sheldon, but it was too late.

Ruby Sheldon covered her mouth and laughed, ”I’ll return that phrase to you. If you’re ignorant, speak less and read more. Your mother doesn’t even have a lawful husband, where would your legally acknowledged father come from?!”

Lawrence Winters snorted, ”Whether my mother has a lawful husband is none of your business. Do I have to show you a divorce certificate? Or cut open my belly for you to see how many bowls of jelly are there? It’s hilarious! Miss Sheldon, being ignorant and liking to show off, do you want to be like a piece of bamboo in our meal to amuse us?”

This was a taunt, saying Ruby was so worthless, like a clown.

Bamboo pieces in meals were those used by wealthy and powerful men in the past to amuse themselves during meals.

Ruby Sheldon obviously didn’t understand what ”bamboo pieces” meant, but she could hear the disdain and rudeness in Lawrence Winter’s tone. She smirked coldly and said, ”I wonder who’s really ignorant; I have a Bachelor’s degree in Law!”

”Having a Bachelor’s degree in Law doesn’t mean you understand the law.” Lawrence Winters continued calmly, ”Today I’ll teach you something; regardless of marriage, biological parents are legally recognized as parents. So I definitely have a legally acknowledged father, as humanity hasn’t evolved to reproduce asexually, right, Miss Sheldon?”

Ruby Sheldon was dumbfounded, ”What?! Biological parents are legally recognized parents?! But isn’t it true that children born out of wedlock don’t have inheritance rights? Without inheritance rights, how can it be a legally acknowledged parent-child relationship?”

”Legally acknowledged parents and inheritance rights are two separate matters.” Lawrence Winters sighed slightly, looking at Ruby Sheldon with a hint of pity, ”Miss Sheldon, it seems your nine-year compulsory education is incomplete. You’re not good at logic and haven’t learned dialectics either?”

Ruby Sheldon pursed her lips; she had studied both domestically and abroad and later attended an overseas university.

Her family was wealthy; they could hire any tutor for one-on-one guidance, much better than attending school.

However, her subjects were indeed skewed towards arts and literature, with little knowledge of sciences, as numbers made her dizzy.

She glared hatefully at Lawrence Winters.

Aiden Sheldon watched with some sympathy, displeasedly glancing at Lawrence Winters, saying, ”Miss Winters, please be merciful with your words. Betty has been sick often since childhood and was frequently hospitalized, so her academics naturally can’t compare to Miss Winters, who can top the province in exams.”

Lawrence Winters’ heart leapt, thinking about how this dog of a father had investigated her?

Was this a warning for her to keep quiet?

Like saying, ’I’ve thoroughly investigated you. If you keep babbling on, I’ll ruin your entire family’?

Lawrence Winters unconsciously turned her gaze and locked eyes with Aiden Sheldon.

Aiden Sheldon merely gave her a deep look, then shifted his focus, lowered his head, picked up a piece of braised pork head meat, and began chewing it slowly.

Autumn Stetford’s face gradually turned pale, even feeling a bit nauseous.

She clutched her chest for a moment and hastily said, ”I’m feeling unwell, excuse me.”

Autumn Stetford quickly departed, Aiden Sheldon considered for a moment, stood up, and said, ”I’ll go check on her. If it turns out to be serious, I’ll ask my father-in-law to call a doctor to look at her.”

Ruby Sheldon also put down her chopsticks, very worried, saying, ”Dad, I’ll go with you!”

Richard Stetford nodded, clearly concerned, ”I’ll call the doctor right away; since we have a family doctor, it won’t be a hassle.”

He phoned the doctor, Aiden Sheldon, and Ruby Sheldon chased after Autumn Stetford as she departed. Ava Harlow exchanged a glance with Spring Spencer, and neither felt comfortable staying seated.

”Uncle Nine, I’ll also go see if there’s anything I can do to help. Betty is young, and Mr. Sheldon isn’t accustomed to these trivial matters.” Ava Harlow gracefully stood up and said politely to Richard Stetford.

Richard Stetford was on the phone, merely waving his hand to indicate she was free to act.

Ava Harlow stood, and Spring Spencer followed suit, and the mother and daughter left together.

Once they were gone, only Lawrence Winters and Richard Stetford remained at the table.

Richard Stetford put away his phone, staring at Lawrence Winters, saying, ”Great Master Winters doesn’t seem worried at all.”

Lawrence Winters continued eating the braised platter with relish. After swallowing her food, she grinned and said, ”Mr. Stetford, I observed Mrs. Sheldon’s face; she’ll be fine today. But her fortunes are declining, going downhill. I guess their Wells Residence Garden’s Geomantic Formation hasn’t been resolved yet.”

Richard Stetford smiled slowly, ”It seems Great Master Winters is even more formidable than I imagined.
