Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 790: Chapter 403: Head of the Household (Third Update)

The old Daoist could still fly a distance of ten feet, reducing some of the impact.

But those three people were trapped in the car with nowhere to escape, so the impact they received was more serious, and their injuries were also more severe.

But that’s not her problem anymore.

It’s their bad luck.

This is her causality, and she must resolve it personally.

If the old Daoist can wake up, that’s the best. If he can’t wake up, not only do those three people have to pay with their lives for the old Daoist, but also the people behind them!

Better not let her find out who’s behind the mischief!

She won’t let a single one get away.

Lawrence Winters tightly clenched his fists, lowering his gaze.

Kenneth Osborne saw her look and knew she must have done something she didn’t want to tell him.

Though he was angry, this time he could understand.

It’s just too dangerous for Lawrence Winters to pursue the culprits alone, and the other side has guns!

He saw it on the news.

Kenneth Osborne closed his eyes, ”Nora, even if you’re unhappy, I have to say it. Don’t be so reckless next time, okay? Didn’t you think about me, think about your mom, and your dad?”

”I did think about it. If something happened to you, I would avenge you just the same,” Lawrence Winters replied without hesitation. ”I won’t allow anyone to hurt my family! If they do, I will make sure they regret that decision!”

...

The old Daoist was sent back to a single ward, surrounded by a pile of instruments monitoring his condition at all times.

Nick Zeller and Gabrielle Winters were guarding the old Daoist’s ward. Lawrence Winters and Kenneth Osborne returned home to cook for them and packed some clean clothes and toiletries to bring over.

The toiletries were small packets bought from the supermarket, convenient to dispose of once used up.

In the following week, Lawrence Winters took leave to specially take care of the three elders at home.

Sister Three Billion and Crazy Girl saw the news and also called her to express their condolences, eager to help in person.

Lawrence Winters politely declined each one, telling them there were few people at home now to take care of the patients, and she would contact them when her family improved.

So they didn’t insist, but chatted with her every day in the small group, keeping tabs on her situation.

Manager Fu came once to visit her, telling her not to worry and that the company could wait until her family recovered before taking leave.

Evan Stetford had already gone abroad. He got the news two days late but also called to express his condolences.

Meanwhile, Lady Fu and Lady Sheng, and the affluent women Lawrence Winters associated with, all sent her flower baskets.

The Sheldon Family was quite interesting. In addition to Ryan Sheldon sending her flower baskets and gifts, even Nathan Sheldon sent one, with his signature including Ruby Sheldon as well.

Lawrence Winters accepted Ryan Sheldon’s gift but returned Nathan Sheldon’s.

The old Daoist’s condition was quite good, with all indicators normal, yet he still hadn’t woken up.

Nick Zeller and Gabrielle Winters were unwilling to hire a carer, completely relying on themselves to take care of the old Daoist.

Lawrence Winters wasn’t very good at cooking, so this week Kenneth Osborne got up early every morning, preparing lunch along with breakfast before going to work.

After work, he would come back to make dinner and then go to the hospital together with Lawrence Winters.

Soon, a week passed, and it was the weekend again.

After preparing breakfast and lunch, Kenneth Osborne, as usual, went to the company.

He was busy finalizing the post-production contract with a foreign film company, which was about to be finalized and signed.

When Lawrence Winters delivered the meal to the hospital and received a call from Francis Johnson.

She held her phone and walked to the corridor outside the hospital.

”Lawrence, the police’s preliminary interrogation results are out. They were originally people from the Celestial Master Sect - Grant Branch abroad, and we found their list,” said Francis Johnson with implication, ”Because your family are the last successors of the Zhang branch, they wanted to eliminate you once and for all.”

”It was indeed them,” said Lawrence Winters calmly. ”Is it just them? Was there anyone else involved?”

Thinking about the Sheldon Family’s connection with the Grant Branch, Lawrence Winters was still a little uneasy.

She had also offended Autumn Stetford.

However, Francis Johnson shook his head, ”For now, we’ve only found the connection between them and the Grant Branch. We’ve also used overseas contacts and found no other involvement.”

Lawrence Winters answered with an ”Hmm,” ”The Grant Branch is abroad, right? Do you have their specific address? I found their headquarters location online.”

She stated the address, and Francis Johnson confirmed, ”That’s the place. They are a publicly registered non-governmental organization, very influential and have a good relationship with local congressmen.”

Which means a major patron for congressmen.

Congressional elections abroad all need major donors to fund them, or how would they realistically get elected on their abilities alone?

Don’t even dream about it.

Lawrence Winters nodded faintly, ”I understand, thank you, Mr. Zhao.”

Francis Johnson then comforted her a bit more before hanging up.

Kenneth Osborne arrived at the company and planned to print the contract to review it from start to finish.

Just as he was holding his coffee waiting for the contract to print, his phone rang.

He thought it was a call from Lawrence Winters and quickly took it out to check.

But it wasn’t Lawrence Winters; it was Spring Spencer.

Kenneth Osborne hesitated for a moment but still answered the call, ”Hello, Mr. Spencer.”

Spring Spencer’s voice was a bit urgent, ”Mr. Osborne, I’m still abroad. I just got information from an industry friend that an AI company is about to accuse you of stealing their trade secrets! They say the software you use for special effects includes code covered by their AI patent, even their signatures in it!”

”They’re going to make the announcement on Monday!”
